    parent root

I’ve literally got a neighbor flying a “I VOTED FOR THE FELON” flag.

It’s on the same flag pole as the American flag right above it.

It’s not like they don’t know. They just like to finally feel represented.

    parent root

I'm surprised they had the American flag ABOVE it...

    parent root
    18 points Freakears

They don't even mind if you call him a fascist.

    parent root
    9 points PreviousCurrentThing

Do you mind when Republicans call centrist Dems "commies"? Does that make you worried that you actually supported a communist when you voted for Harris, or does it just make you dismiss the person saying it?

I'm not saying Trump isn't a fascist, but it's entirely unsurprising to me that Republicans wouldn't care about Democrats calling him one.

    parent root
    15 points Freakears

I should have phrased that better. What I meant is that they don't seem to think fascism (or Trump being one) is a bad thing.

    parent root
    7 points Hecate1992

Everyday on my way to work I drive by some asshole’s house with this same exact flag. Also has an American flag + a very tattered confederate flag for good measure. And I’m in NO WAY making fun of poor people when I say this but of course it’s a unkemp shithole house with like 3 giant pickup trucks out front. South Carolina 🤷‍♀️

    parent root

This is not true at all. Every single MAGA person I've brought this up to will pretend like he isn't a felon because it was all rigged and weaponized against him. They are embarrassed by it and don't want to admit it's true.

It's almost like more than just one type of person exists and both can be true

    parent root

This is poor messaging.  By saying "Your President" instead of "Our President," it immediately creates an us-vs-them narrative that puts supporters on the defensive.

    parent
    45 points imtoowhiteandnerdy

Here in California before the November 2024 election there was a Sheriff in SoCal who was making public statements that we all "need to vote for the felon".

This is an elected law enforcement official making a public statement saying they support a criminal for President.

It doesn't get much more fucking stupid than that.

    parent root

I went to EKU there 25 years ago. You would be correct. Being that I'm originally from Louisville, I never really understood the Kentucky stereotypes. First time I went into Walmart there in Richmond, I noticed several children with no shoes and or shirt. A few guys in my dorm would go home on the weekends, and bring back moonshine in used gallon milk containers. So yes, plenty of those stereotypes are true.

    parent root

As someone who lives around there, it’s not the beacon of hope I’d like it to be considering I work with a whole company of Trump supporters.  Kentucky has some good, open minded people but I’d venture to say most are still felon loving morons with a high school education… and not even a good high school.

    parent

It sucks when they automatically assume that youre one of them too. Ive had random people and coworkers come up to me and say some absolutely horrendous and stupid shit about other people. And they act so confused and betrayed when i have to tell em off-- like im the fuckin bad guy...

Conservatives are merciless law and order tough guys, the law is the law, paramilitary forces are required, when it comes to the undocumented grandma selling tamales but when the president is a felon with 34 convictions they are garantists to the core.

If it weren't for double standards these buffoons wouldn't have any standard at all.

    parent
    13 points JimWilliams423

The whole term is actually "rich man's law and the racial order."

But those extra parts are silent because its a dog whistle.

    parent root
    2 points born_of_fire2

Thats funny because years ago in my county there was a Democrat running for Sheriff (who i was gonna vote for) who lost the primary but then re-entered the race running under the "law and order party" well that split the Democrat vote and the Republican won. I think this was in like 2013. Long before I ever heard Trump talking about "law and order."

    parent root
    3 points JimWilliams423

I think this was in like 2013.

The phrase goes back decades further than that. Nixon ran on it, and made it about race to signal he was against civil rights.

then re-entered the race running under the "law and order party"

I bet that guy is maga now.

You save big money, you save big money, when you shop MENAAAAARDS!

Also yes, that's correct. But the people this ad is targeting wear that as a badge of honor.

    parent
    16 points Phoxey

I was about to comment something along the lines of "that was random af lol" before I looked back at the photo. 😂

Fun fact: John Menard Jr. is the wealthiest person in Wisconsin, double digit billionaire, is staunchly conservative, and politically active with his money.

Also, Walgreens recently sold to private equity if you wanna take yourself down that rabbit hole.

    parent root
    14 points TheMiltownMatticus

The Menards aren't nearly as bad as the Uihleins who have been trying to control Wisconsin for decades unfortunately.

They own U-line (packaging company, their biggest client is Amazon). Some of the largest buildings in Wisconsin are the Uline factory and Amazon Midwest Distribution center. They are across the street from each other in the Kenosha area.

    Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein

    parent root
    6 points Phoxey

The Menards are still pretty bad, strongly anti-union, list could go on, but I agree, the Uihlein family also uses their voice to prop up a massive conservative agenda in Wisconsin.

Even the Johnson and Johnson family.

The wealthiest person in Wisconsin that is a Democratic backer is: https://www.forbes.com/profile/marc-lasry/?list=billionaires&sh=12a155d276a0

He's only rank 1,434 (in the world) with a PALTRY $2.1 billion net worth.

The Democratic party (specifically the DNC) has it's own problems, but they are the lesser evil.

    parent root
    4 points TheMiltownMatticus

    Agreed.

I'll never forgive Marc Lasry for selling his share of the Bucks to Jimmy Haslam (also the owner of the Cleveland Browns) though.

He literally could not have picked a worse person to sell it to.

    parent root
    3 points Phoxey

Yeah, for me personally, I love competitive sports, but the amount of wealth involved (on top of the tax breaks, and tax payers often paying for stadiums nowadays) reaaaallllyyy discourages me from enjoying most of the mainstream sports.

I try to stay engaged from the sidelines with some sports, but it's just not the same.
