I saw Foo Fighters play a set in the Best Buy at 20th and Camelback for about 200 people in 2000 and they played the state fair that night. Anyone else see this amazing show? Dave smashed his guitar at the end, then there was a meet and greet.

  • No. Way. Are you kidding me? I’m like 10 Feet to the right of Dave. That version of Everlong… wow. Thanks for sharing🙏❤️

This is one of my favorite Reddit moments. I’m so glad you asked and so glad t20suave answered

  • At Best Buy!? Did they just set up shop in the corner with amps and wedge monitors!? That’s incredible i would love to see a show like that haha

Yeah, they set up a small stage in the back corner by the home appliances!

  • I was there for both the in-store appearance and the concert later that night. I still have the autograph I got that day! Taylor stole my wallet. 🥲

What?! That’s crazy, what’s the story there? My now ex wife got one of Taylor’s drumsticks that he threw into the crowd at a show at the dodge.

How cool! I don't have any of his drumsticks, what an awesome memento!

So the wallet story, I didn't realize there would be a meet and greet after their performance. I didn't bring anything specific for them to sign, so I ended up handing the guys the cheap velcro Disneyland wallet I was carrying. It was hunter green and had Winnie the Pooh on it. 😅 But it was flat enough and I figured a sharpie would stay put. When I got to Taylor he put the wallet in his pocket and jokingly acted like he never saw it. Of course he signed it and handed it back after a few moments. Dave was last in line for autographs and he said "Did Taylor try to steal your wallet?? I keep telling him not to do that!" I still have that Winnie the Foo wallet! It's just retired now.

Omg, that’s amazing. I remember going through the line and all I could say was “you guys are fucking awesome”.

  • No, but I remember there used to be a Best Buy at that intersection. Damn, thanks for reminding me.

    It’s still there.

yeah, but it used to be there too.

  • No...but I saw them in '95 at the Electric Ballroom. 🖤

    So cool! Early days show!

Saw them at Cabaret Metro in Chicago for their first tour. He was really nervous. Eddie Vedder was there supporting and playing drums for his wife’s band.

  • Which foo’s were they fighting?

    All the foos

  • How did you end up at that show? That’s really cool!

I heard it on the radio that morning on the way to work. I was the manager of a store and couldn’t find anyone to cover for me so I just closed up shop for the day! Not sure if the owners ever found out. If they did I’m sure I would have gotten a stern talking to or worse!

  • Saw them at the state fair

I want to say Queens of the Stone Age opened for them?

  • No but I saw them at the fair that night. It was my first real rock show. As I recall, Dave said it was their first ever arena. And they began with Dave drumming from the rafters so he and Taylor had a 'drum off' and it was epic. At one point, Dave ran through the pit while playing guitar and I think some woman tackled him or something? It was wild. I was VERY young and could be making half of this up by now.

Some people LOVED QOTSA who opened but I thought they sounded muffled so I didn't enjoy them.

Wow! What a great first rock concert! Dave would scream through those early shows. Hearing the crowd sing Monkey Wrench is a favorite concert memory of mine. And yes, QOTSA did not impress me, either.

I saw them at the fair, as well. Saw QOTSA like four times in the Valley back then, they were definitely better in small clubs.

  • I was there.

  • Wow that’s amazing

  • I did. Got my CD signed after the show, made a comment to Dave about how punk it was to play in front of a wall of washing machines. At one point they were trying to figure out what to play next and I yelled out Skeeter, and they joked that it wasn’t family friendly or something similar. Can’t believe that was 25 years ago.

Holy shit! I thought you yelled out “Sliver” and thought, what a jerk!😂

Haha glad I can clear my name 25 years later!

  • Damn, way back. Phoenix used to have some cool architecture.

  • No, but did anyone see Rooney?
