I, a grumpy_sober_driver, and too old for bring messed around, live in a country that drives on the left. This is important for context. Also, I have a dashcam and am not afraid to use it.

I was driving on midweek afternoon, approaching a traffic light controlled crossroad junction. The road is two lanes, going to one lane beyond the lights. The left lane is straight on and left with the right lane being right turn only, controlled by a filter light.

I am in the left lane stopped at the lights behind a small car. There is nothing behind me. A car and a bus are in the right lane. The right filter goes green so the car and bus go through. A white Porsche Carrera comes up the right lane and gets stopped as the right filter has gone red.

Straight on and left light goes green and the car in front and I pull off to enter the single lane ahead. Then the Porsche takes off like a cat with its tail on fire and barges across the front of me, no indicator (flasher, turn signal, blinker) and I have to brake to avoid a crash. Naturally, I also hit the horn which gets me the finger from the Porsche driver.

I get alongside where there is a turn right lane to enter the shopping centre I am heading to. I shout at the driver, asking her why the f@ck the shot the light. Her entitled reply: "F@ck you, I'm in a Porsche".

My petty revenge: reporting her to the Police and submitting the dashcam video as evidence. The copper who was assigned to the case told me she got a $150 fine and 20 demerits (100 and you get a ban) for the unsafe lane change. (No indicator)

  • Good job 👏

smh some ppl really think their car makes them invincible but nah not on my watch

A smart person with a super fancy car would drive more carefully. At least one would think. But then again these are not all smart people.

  • Thank you for educating that douche-knuckle regarding the concept of 'actions -> consequences'.
    A.k.a. 'don't be a dick'.

  • In the US, cops wouldn’t give you the time of day for something like that. Their response would be that they didn’t see the action, so they can’t give it a citation.

  • Immature douchebag, the Porsche guy, not you, and report the crap out of him 😤

  • Her reply explains a lot

  • I would love my country to have such system, allowing citizens to send dashcam videos to the authorities and letting them take care of the fines.

I've got myself a few in dashcam, like going the wrong way inside a roundabout, crossing double lines (can't cross those, heavy fine if police gets you) and so on....

  • Might does not make right, when there is a greater might over you.

  • Ken oath! She deserved that.

  • I wish we had that option here in California in the USA but unless the officer witnesses it, dash cam video and things like that just don't count. It's ridiculous. Lots of people running red lights and we have it all on tape and nobody cares.

And when AI becomes ubiquitous, dashcam footage will not be admkssible even for insurance purposes.

    Great job, tech "wizards".

One thing that the dash cam will still be useful for even if AI exists that can create fake dash cam video is that you have video of all the other cars and you have their plates, and if there's an accident that's bad, while you might not be able to believe the dash cam video, you have identifiable witnesses sometimes, and they would be asked to provide eyewitnessed information. Of course that doesn't help if there's nobody else around, but for the accident that just destroyed one of our cars from a red light runner, we had all sorts of volunteered witnesses

Ha! Good luck with that theory.

Change a tire on the Long Island Expressway and hundreds of people will slow to a crawl in both directions to get a good look.

Get rear-ended on the LIE in rush hour and nobody sees anything.

  • There are cameras everywhere.

  • Reminds me of an incident many moons ago. There was awful traffic in the town centre, and I was stuck in a long queue to turn right. The trouble was, we had to give way to the traffic turning the corner in front of us, many of whom had been waiting a while themselves to move so weren’t feeling particularly charitable.

Eventually, I get to the front of the queue. The light goes green to indicate we can all move, including the cars in front of us who weren’t letting me through. Promptly, someone behind me starts beeping his car horn frantically. Thought nothing of it and kept waiting. Eventually, someone lets me go, so I pull forward and take the lane I wanted, which is the one closest to the pavement (important detail). Shortly after, a white van pulls around me, stops next to me and shouts at me through the window (“what are you playing at?” or words to that effect). Said driver the proceeds to go up the kerb, drive along the pavement and come off at the exit a little way up the road.

A few minutes later, I reach the exit and take it since that’s where I needed to go. Lo and behold, just a short way up the road was the van driver, stood next to his van with a map, trying to figure out where he should’ve gone instead of taking the exit he did. Not really petty revenge, but I had a very visible laugh at their expense as I went by.

  • Great job.

    Which dash cam?

    Just a DDPAI (mini 4?)

  • What type is she? Type I, Type M or Type C?

Going by the shrunken face, missing front teeth and lack of critical thinking skills, type methhead. And type M.

  • Keep fighting the stupid brother, we may win yet.

  • Fines should be based on the value of the car. Or maybe the income of the driver.
