I had a nasty ear ache once and had to have that done because the doctor couldn't see what was going on in there because of the wax, it was so unpleasant that I actually fainted. I make sure to regularly clean them out like this now incase an infection hits again because man it sucked!
Oh my gosh, I had the opposite experience. Like you I had an ear infection and was basically deaf due to it being impacted. However, when the doc did this to me, it felt so good that I’ve basically been chasing that high ever since. It was so satisfying.
I’ve never had the same issue since, so I haven’t tried. However, do you know that amazing feeling you get when you put a q-tip in your ear? It was that feeling x10
Might sound odd, but a drop of olive oil or mineral oil once a week completely negates the need for q tips. Softens wax enough it comes out in the shower
The squirt bottle and the tweezers felt like scratching the deepest itch for me, I want it to keep going! I didn't even have an ear infection after they went full Minecraft on my ears last time, I just get impacted to the point of going deaf sometimes.
Saw an ENT that had a tiny little vacuum pump in his cabinets and it was attached to a small rubber hose with this 4ish inch long skinny metal tube .... I thought it was maybe the 3rd best sensation I had experienced in 40 years
I've had it completely blocked to the point I couldn't hear before as well, getting that cleaned out was indeed a nice experience, but the one with the infection? Whoo boy.
Same. I punctured my ear drum by falling on a twig no joke and my ear was so clogged that they used a suction type thing to clear my ear out and omfg I was having inner ear orgasms or something
I have one of those "rare anatomical quirks" that makes it so the nerves in my ear canals trigger an intense coughing reflex when touched. It's terribly unpleasant but I still clean my ears from time to time because I don't want to be gunked up either. Does this process actually put a lot of pressure on the inner ear or was it unpleasant for another reason? Because I'm wondering if this may actually be easier for me.
No, it was only because I had an ear infection. Other times I had it done, and now that I do it myself at home, it's fine. You don't shoot the water in at 90 degrees but more like an upward 45 degree angle so there's no direct pressure on the ear drum. It's not at all unpleasant and safer than cotton swabs (my doctor told me never use those for my ears).
It sucks! For the longest time I thought everyone was joking when they said cotton swabs feel good and it took ages for me to realize I was the weird one. Of all the ways my body could be weird and rare it chooses to infuriate me for attempting to have clean ears. I guess it works out that cotton swabs are bad for you anyways but I can't stand being gunked up and it's a horrible fight every time!
I guess I'm lucky in that I never have wax build up. I never use q tips and never put anything in my ear smaller than my pinky.
My Doctor during my last visit said my ears were totally clean and assumed I must clean them daily. I told her I have never cleaned deep inside of them aside from my pinky with a towel after the shower. She said some people just don't produce much wax and I must be one of them.
Same, had a plug of wax in both my ears the size of a pill capsule. After the doc removed them in was like "Damn is this how normal people hear the world?"
Do not listen to anyone recommending anything but microsuction. You should go see a professional that uses microsuction, anything else has a chance to damage your eardrum. Also, usually the body has it's own way of dealing with earwax removal, the skin cells in your ear grow and push outwards, pushing earwax to the outside. You shouldn't use qtips, but if you want to, focus on the outside of the ear, and not the very inside of the earhole.
Thanks for the advice! If I ever use qtips it’s for the exterior area and as for wax inside; I use a little device that has a tiny scoop and a camera connected to my phone. It allows me to see why I’m doing and I don’t go too far in.
I’ll look into micro suction but I won’t buy anything on my own unless I know it’s 100% safe.
They used to do this at the hospital on me ass a kid, i had nearly chronic ear infections, multiple times of ruptured ear drums and drainage put in. When they had me in at checkups they would clean out my ears like this and it was awefull, hurts like a mother fucker.
I don't know what that thing is or what country that is, but if your ear is blocked and you live in a country with free health care, you can get an ear syringing, which is very effective and doesn't come with any of the risks of shoving something down your ear hole. It's also painless.
Yeah, I can really relate to this. I had a torn eardrum when I was a kid. The ENT said it would heal over time, but I remember every year around November, my ears used to pain so much that I couldn't sleep for even a minute.... truly dreadful nights. Every year, the ENT would clean my eardrums a similar device. It was like a big syringe, he used to force some liquid down my ear canal and everything inside would gush out. Although painful, the relief I felt after that was something... Thankfully, it healed completely around my mid-teens. I truly hope no one else has to go through that pain.
I remember when I got my ear clogged pretty badly as a kid, I think it was partly due to how loud the music would be at the church I went to at the time and there was nothing in the room that absorbed any sound so it was full blast. Was so bad I thought someone was shoving their hand into my ear trying to reach the other side while also firing and bullet at my ear drum.
I mean there are these ear candles that also are advertised for ear cleaning but these only put more wax in your ears sooo thats a thing some people do
Sure, but rinsing with water is how they'd clean your ear canal at the doctor's office, using q tips or candles isn't. I'm mostly just annoyed at the commenter who couldn't help making a snide comment based on nothing other than his need to be a dick.
Im just saying dont buy random shit on the internet and put them near ear or eyes or similar even if it could work it could also be a knockoff without calibration best case it works like intendet worst case you loose an eye or it blows up because the battery breaks always be careful with stuff like that
Maybe you're annoyed because of your lack of perspective. It might be OK for a doctor to rinse out your ear canals but only because they know what they're doing. Doing it yourself (and especially with something like this) is considerably risky.
On a side note, doctors only really clear your ears if the wax is causing problems such as a blockage. And even then, they don't always use water. On top this, any already present ear damage (that can often be unnoticed) can be significantly worsened by this.

Oh wow that's strange. Have you ever had it done again? If so did it feel good but not as good as a first time? Fascinating.
I’ve never had the same issue since, so I haven’t tried. However, do you know that amazing feeling you get when you put a q-tip in your ear? It was that feeling x10
See now I hate q-tips in my ears so maybe this is just a how you're born kinda thing
That would make a lot of sense
I think they might have put an erogenous zone in the wrong place when they built you
+1 for Q-tips, the feeling is amazing.
However I've heard from my doctor it's HIGHLY not recommended for your ear as it can do serious damage.
I learned that and stopped doing it, but damn do I want to keep doing it. It feels so good
Might sound odd, but a drop of olive oil or mineral oil once a week completely negates the need for q tips. Softens wax enough it comes out in the shower
Bro my mum's a nurse and having your ears syringed is fucking heavenly, I get her to do it every single often.
I've had it done like 5 times. For me it was always nice. Warm water flushing out the gunk is a relief.
The squirt bottle and the tweezers felt like scratching the deepest itch for me, I want it to keep going! I didn't even have an ear infection after they went full Minecraft on my ears last time, I just get impacted to the point of going deaf sometimes.
Me too, I’ve had my ears lavaged multiple times. My favorite part is how crisp “S” sounds are for the next 2 days.
Saw an ENT that had a tiny little vacuum pump in his cabinets and it was attached to a small rubber hose with this 4ish inch long skinny metal tube .... I thought it was maybe the 3rd best sensation I had experienced in 40 years
Seriously, I couldn’t believe how good it felt

Have you tried heroine? I watched the first half of Requiem for a Dream and it really made me think we’re all demonizing that drug for nothing. /s

Good to know, thank you!
I HAVE THAT TOO!!!

...that's a rare thing? I have that, I thought it was normal 😭 I go into a coughing fit every time.
Yeah, not sure it's all that rare because the same happens to both me and my husband. If it is rare then what are the odds?
Actually it's just you three. Amazing that you found each other in this reddit thread!
I guess I'm lucky in that I never have wax build up. I never use q tips and never put anything in my ear smaller than my pinky.

Do ear cleaners like this actually work? I’ve been thinking about getting one because I don’t use qtips
Yes they actually work very well

I'm barbaric and use those metal ear scoop things. Don't know why but sitting down watching TV cleaning my ears is scratching an itch
Someone higher in the thread said a doctor used one to clear wax away so they could see the eardrum, so probably.
Yes I've got one without the ear cone
Had a doctor use one on me when I was like 10 so I assume so.
What is that?
Looks like an ear rinser. And she was not ready.
Thanks
Maybe a water Qtip

What’s this one called?
Sorry, I don't know her personally.
She looks like a Sue. Or Abigail
I can see why it’s super uncomfortable for a lot of people but I kinda like getting my ears rinsed

It’s funny, in the last frame got the Sylvester Stallone yell face going on, lol.
These onlyfans accounts are getting very specific
Ear damage speedrun
Hmm yes this product specifically designed to clean the ear canal safely and effectively will certainly destroy her ears. You are so smart and cool.
You put way too much faith in their marketing

Hmmm yes I'm sure a doctor would agree
