It's the camera switching from daylight to night mode. The night mode one is much more sensitive to light (possibly even being an infrared camera, but im not sure), so it gets overexposed very easily.
This is also why you see the overexposure reduce quickly. It's the nighttime camera adjusting to the relatively high light level for its use case.
Chemist here. What this lady is pouring into the coke is something called calcium hypochlorite. Basically, think of it as a pure solid form of bleach. Calcium hypochlorite (I'm just gonna call it hypo from here on out) is a fairly reactive oxidizer and a strong source for chlorine. Making it ideal for rapid pool shock.
The problem when introducing it into an acidic environment like soda is that the acid will attack the hypo and rip it apart. In this case the phosphoric acid will separate the calcium and bond to it. This causes a hydrogen to bond to the hypochlorite part which is highly unstable. The result of this instability is that the hypochlorite will rapidly decay into chlorine gas and water. A secondary reaction going on here also involves carbonic acid and hypo which will produce more chlorine gas aswell as CO2.
As you can imagine all this gas building up will rapidly pressurize the bottle up to and well beyond its breaking point. However the explosion here is not the biggest thing to worry about. Its all that wet hypo that hasn't reacted yet being thrown everywhere. Wet hypo is very corrosive to pretty much everything it gets on. This stuff will cause nasty chemical burns if it gets on you. This lady needs to strip off her clothes and RUN to the closest shower.
The Internet had all this info well before she went and liveleaked her dumb online. She could have researched all of this ahead of time. If she chose not to, we can assume she had a preference for the outcome she got. Maybe she wanted chemical burns?
Plot twist: she's trying to experience how "My chemical romance" got their name bc hearing it simply wasn't enough for this super fan. /s I'm joking but with the internet & stupid trends on tik tok & whatnot sadly it wouldn't really surprise me. :/
If I recall (assuming this is the same video, it's been a minute), she had done the experiment before, but used a different product with lower bleach content, so the reaction was as fast or extreme, and she forgot or didn't realize to account for the difference
My father was a driller and blaster in hard rock mining, he said basically the same thing. Thereās some things you just donāt fuck with. Like this shit. Or old sweating dynamite
nitroglycerine is reactive with shock, so a bump with set it off.
To make dynamite you put the liquid nitroglycerine into a absorbing material so that it's not as volatile when bumped, basically safe to transport.
Now when dynamite is sweating it's leaking nitroglycerine and now you've got liquid nitroglycerine that is susceptible to shock and a bump might set it off.
The guy who invented the process of making stable dynamite out of highly unstable nitroglycerin has a major prize named after him. Ever heard of Alfred Nobel?
Not a chemist, but I used to clean pools for a living. This stuff is also known as "pool shock" and it's incredibly unpleasant. Just being near the powder makes your nose sting.
And here I thought it was a painful, but mostly harmless reaction akin to baking soda and vinegar. Jesus. I would love to know the aftermath to this video.
Is this similar to a āworks bombā? We blew up a snowman with one when I was a kid and the cop was cool but did mention it could be considered terrorism (and this was pre 9/11).
I'm not sure what a "works bomb" is. If it's something like taking The Works toilet cleaner and mixing it with something like baking soda in a bottle, then it would be similar. Only the toilet cleaner is a strong acid reacting with the carbonate in the baking soda which produces a lot of CO2. That would make just another gas pressure bomb.
No baking soda if I remember correctly, but rather balls of aluminum foil followed by Works cleaner. But this was many moons ago so I could be wrong about the baking soda
Sorry to disagree... we did this as teenagers frequently. Although we didn't use Coca Cola. We just used table sugar. The shock is reacting with the sugar because it hates organic molecules. (NOT A CHEMIST LOL). Not that anyone should try it, we used much less than that lady. Maybe a 1/2 cup of sugar, a few cap fulls of shock and just enough water to combine everything. It usually took 15- 30 seconds, but same result... except we were much further away by then.
That's a different scenario entirely. There would be some oxidation/reduction of the fructose in the soda. But the water volume would absorb a lot of the thermal energy produced and slow down the reaction rate. It wouldn't happen fast enough for the bottle to explode as quickly as we see in the video. Less than 5 seconds after the bottle is closed it pops.
The acid reaction, however, is much quicker. You can see this for yourself just by putting baking soda on vinegar. The reaction is immediate and produces large amounts of CO2. The reaction going on here produces not just CO2 but also chlorine gas. This is probably why it popped faster than the lady thought it would.
Ok, the force on that explosion is a lot more than you think. First, soda bottles are designed pressure containers and can hold up under a shocking amount of internal pressure.
But second, you're starting a reaction that converts a solid into a gas, one which takes up much more volume.
And third, she was practically holding the damn thing when it blew with not safety gear at all. It's like a real life lab safety video.
Yes I understand and she probably sustained injuries from the blast but the previous comment I was replying too is stating it as 'life altering' injuries which may or may not be a little far stretched
Pool shock. Basically nearly pure calcium hypochlorite. Strong oxidizer, very corrosive, likes to put off a ton of chlorine gas whenever it reacts with anything. This stuff will literally pull water out of the air and turn into a goopy mess that will burn your eyes and lungs if you breath near it. Mix it with any nitrogen source and it will explode.
Okay she knew it was going to react and blow up and yet she decided to manually open it up after shaking the contents as opposed to I don't know... running away and getting to a safe distance? Maybe hit it from far away with a BB gun or pellets?
Why is it that every video I see of people making various bombs in soda bottles, they take for fucking ever to screw on the cap? I feel like this gal is a bit lacking in the brain department.

...and she just got a mega dose of chlorine gas in her lungs, probably.
I'll take "Why this is a terrible idea" for 1000, Alex.
Pretty sure I saw something about her going blind or partially blind
And this is why you donāt fuck with things that go boom without knowing how to fuck with them.
My father was a driller and blaster in hard rock mining, he said basically the same thing. Thereās some things you just donāt fuck with. Like this shit. Or old sweating dynamite
Now Iām curious: does dynamite sweat? And if so, what does it mean?

No. What'd he ever do?
They use diatomes!
It's true. But I wanted the most simple explanation rather than explaining diatomaceous earth.
If you interrogate it enough it does
Saw on another post she's partially blinded

I had a feeling I was watching a woman create a chemical IED that then exploded in her face
You're not wrong.
And the chlorine gas won't be beneficial to her either.

The last time someone posted this it was brought up that she was blinded doing this. Donāt have the link to the article though
Thank you for this very interesting lesson Mr White.

Her lack of urgency with the cap leads me to believe we are dealing with room temperature IQ here
She had to do her lil dance
Couldn't have said it better
Right!, lid on get moving, instead she's playing around for a good amount of time giving it a shake like a kid.
I have never been so careless with pool chemicals and then thereās this⦠lol
Terry whatchu doin?!

Uncle Phil bout to lose his shit lol
sippin on straight chlorine, let the vibe slide over me..

Wasnāt there another video where a guy shakes the bottle while walking towards the group and the teacher yells at him āNot this-ā
Anyone know if sheās okay?

Did she get to do the lil dance?
That's still one of the funniest Simpsons moments ever, IMO. That and the stack of megaphones always get a laugh out of me.

She likely have played in her hands to repair broken bones and there also the really, really high speed plastic flying into her unprotected face.
Got a link to the follow up to this video?
Why don't you back it up with a source?
IED(Improvised Explosive Device)

Whats worse about this video is, it didn't just blow up she fucking opened it. Look at her twist the cap after shaking it
throwing flashbangg!!
Hey it's turning whit-
Adds chemicals to soda. Puts on cap and makes a bomb. Doesn't run... Classic
Get your hand off the bottle, get your hand off the bottle, get your hand off the bottle, get your hand off the.....nevermind

Reddit, do your thing, I need an update on her
I was also stupid enough to blow up coke bottles back in the day. However this is advanced stupidity even I cant compare to.
Using toxic pool chemicals instead of candy
Messing with the container after it was sealed and obviously pressurizing rapidly. (Seriously, couldn't she feel the rock hard tension in the bottle?)
On the plus side, she wearing some kind of eye protection. I guess.
She's clearly not black. We know when you drop shit and GTFO quick
