It can be fun to find out a refill fits well into a pen body you didn’t expect it to work in, or one that it’s not typically combined into. What is your favorite unique or unorthodox paring of a refill and body?

For me I love a Pilot Precise V7 RT cartridge in the Pilot Metropolitan that comes with the G2 refill. The V7 RT basically fits in any pen that will take a G2. I’m a rollerball guy so it’s an awesome and elegant pairing I personally haven’t seen.

  • I don't think it's uncommon, but I am a sucker for the copper sharpie s-gel body. I can't stand the s-gel ink, so it has pentel energel ink. I have 3 brass pens (two standard click top, one bolt action) and I've got pilot v10, writech nebula 1.0, and monteverde ceramic gel refills in them.

  • Plastic Kaweco Sport Gel Roller will fit the Schmidt p8126 Short Capless rollerball refill, cut down Energel, and comes with a Parker-style g2.

I hack Energel into most machined pens made for the Pilot brand G2.

I dislike the pen, but any list like this needs to include the Zebra F701 with Fisher space pen PR refill, or the Uni Power Tank Smart Series.

My daily driver for a long time was a kaweco sport roller with a Schmidt easy flow 9000

  • Again, no idea if this is uncommon but I've just bought an Ohto GS02 (mint colour) and swapped the standard ink for blue Schmidt Easyflow 9000 - really liking it so far

  • Just got a super cheap knockoff Lamy Safari rollerball from AliExpress that I put a V5 RT in. Probably going to buy more because come to find out I can make it work with ANY Euro or Parker by adding a shim or stretching the spring.

  • Ohto CR02 with Pilot Synergy Refill

  • This combo gotta be pretty weird: I run a Frixion V2 in my Stonewashed TT Slim Bolt Action.
