Honestly I take this is good news. It's rare for a bigger game to have the entire backend hacked like this, and with how badly companies want to make everything a live service game...
Here's hoping it becomes more common for AAA games.
Edit: Guys, I said "rare" not "never before happened"
Well standard stuff like general code/networking vulnerabilities aren't rare at all (moreso the older the title is). I'm referring to things like what's happening here, infinite (paid) currency and constant bans. A full backend hack is what I'm referring to.
you do realise money is not from a fixed pie and you can create value as a company, thats literally the whole reason banks print more money than last year…
new companies will arise to fill ubisofts gap if it does actually disappear, or maybe the market decides poorly made live service games arent really wanted by anyone anymore and the gaming industry shifts to lots of indy creators rather than larger studios (i wouldnt mind that)
i hope by that time another dev comes up with a siege-like game but even better, thats all I like from ubi other than that I dont care if theyre out lmao good riddance
it won’t happen, siege was a complete accident. it was supposed to be a shooter everyone dropped in 6 months but they accidentally put a good dev team together and made something worth playing. it was also the last time they did that
We don't know what level of access they really got, so far it looks like they have quite a lot of capabilities, but often (and I imagine it's the case here too) things like account management are more locked down and direct access to passwords is impossible (only something like "generate and send user password reset link")
We don't know how easy user enumeration is from the point the hackers got the access.
We don't know what level of automation the systems allow for.
We don't even know what the hackers objective was. Was it just to fuck with ubislop or something more malicious like stealing accounts and doxxing players.
How's that client-side kernel-and-secure-boot-required anticheat working out for you, Ubi?
EDIT: damn, Tarkov too, eh? Still waiting on the "allow Linux" anti-cheat button to be pressed, and it looks like the game may not survive long enough for that.
Linux and BSD are vastly different, and "the PS5 is using BSD" like "Android is using Linux": technically true, but they're so heavily altered that they may as well be entirely separate.
Makes sense there other titles were hit in the past years as they cut cost to survive it seems security is one thing they did not invest in.
Horrible for the playerbase as this could compromise alot of information especially if the voip systems are per 2 per lets hope that does not lead to RCE exploits.
If you don't have an AV with decent heuristics running in the background while playing kernel level anticheat games then you are constantly in danger of being breached.
No, Windows Defender does not have decent heuristics (it uses heuristic analysis, but it's just shite) and is known for being quite easy to bypass.
Can someone hack overwatch next and give me 60.000 premium coins thanks
Nah, can someone hack my bank and give me 2 billion instead? I'd be grateful and split 50/50

I hate live service games. MTX is cancer to the gaming industry.
Diablo 3 hackers give away gold. GTA V hackers enter the server to give away money
Not rare
Ea lost titanfall games sony lost its little big planet games and EA again with apex
Even cod back in the day you logged in it would say " I fucked your mom" heck all pre cold war cods are dangerous to play now.
There is also some blizzard titles like your warcraft and i if i recall demoun souls? also had a nasty one they needed to patch asap.

Well that is grand theft auto online for many years they had dev access
Tarkov to a point and star wars battlefront
Seems pretty rare in comparison to every single AAA game that's been made in the last decade or so.
At least the hackers are giving players money, and not deleting their accounts. A robinhood of sorts if you will.
But they do perma ban random people. Its 50/50 infinite money or perm. Idk why people omit this part in news lol
Yeah didn't that happen on GTA?
Like GTAO but remember how that went with the auto bans even on RDR2 mp you see free shit run away.
Never seen the cod login saying that can’t even find anything on google about it
Now getting messages in my inbox from salty players that happened all the time
.
Didn't DS2 get back ended to the point they shut down the multiplayer?
Yes. Russian hackers should target live service games instead of Ukraine public services.
Why is it good though? It's not like it'll stop then from pushing live service. They'll just keep going as usual
You couldn't possibly know that for certain. That also leaves out the players themselves becoming more aware

They were also spamming the ban feed with the lyrics to Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me"
And Billie Jean too
This goes into my "Reasons why I tihnk Ubisoft is going Bankrput by 2040" list.
Hopefully sooner than 2040.
Fuck all the thousands of employed devs and workers amirite
They will get jobs somewhere else.
Yessir because jobs are so readily available in the current economy and money is abundant woo hoo

I dont really care much for the company but i was just pointing out that your weird hate fantasy affects lives.

Weird fantasy? Ubisoft has already proven itself to be a terrible company; they deserve to go bankrupt.

Their stock price the last year is hilarious, almost a penny stock 😂
It is a shocking how no user data was stolen. It appears hackers just really hated Ubisoft
Yet.

Valid reason tbh
oh no , now i wont be able to play (insert ubisoft game i give a shit about here)
How's that client-side kernel-and-secure-boot-required anticheat working out for you, Ubi?

Rainbow 6 doesn't require secure boot.
battle eye doesn't need secure boot last time I checked
EDIT: only BF6 and valorant are two games I know of that need it enabled
And COD
Ironic sense ps5 is using free bsd os
Linux and BSD are vastly different, and "the PS5 is using BSD" like "Android is using Linux": technically true, but they're so heavily altered that they may as well be entirely separate.
Game still runs of it like it used too on a steam deck before they did the anti cheat bs like gta V
LOL :D
I see L for Ubislop, I upvote

Reasons why you should avoid games with kernel level anticheats, especially always-on.
Now imagine Riot gets hacked. They literally have so many PCs in control all over the world with their always-on vanguard.
Which you can turn off...
If you don't have an AV with decent heuristics running in the background while playing kernel level anticheat games then you are constantly in danger of being breached.

Anything with kernel level access doesnt cares about AV
Destiny 2 please, make it like that but convert as An offline modding treatment like The Crew 1 and GTA V.
No more content vault.
DTG mods sucks, including their Steam hub. Banning any "hacking" keyword thread comment.
They're giving away rare cosmetics... honestly they are useless without a market for resell.
Must have been Aiden Pearce
Good. Siege was very fun to play for the first year and a half but after that it got bad...
Leave the division 2 alone please. Literally the only Uni game I care about.
Good now do Apex next. Ubi needs to learn a lesson about these multiple hundred dollar skins and heirlooms.
But I haven't been hacked. Oh wait, I'm playing a pirated singleplayer game right now
