I remember watching a YT video of a guy building a PC with 2 4090's. I thought it was a nice vid until he said he got a loan from the bank to build it. What the fuck. If you have the money and it doesnt hurt then you can buy it. There are also cheaper options for LLM's and gaming. (unless you can make money from the performance)
You dont mine ram dummy. You download it. But it downloads crazy slow so you need a really good GPU to overclock your wifi. But yes, you can turn a 235% profit on buying GPU from klarna and downloading ram.
If you're starting out building credit and you don't have any invested taking a small personal loan can help initially, but a credit card and paying it off is far better. I still recommend paying only for things you can afford on a credit card and paying it off quite fast though because once personal loans are paid off and closed they drop off your credit report and once the account is closed you lose that credit account age which helps even more.
That we have to talk about how to use the system to progress without training is probably a bigger issue though. We are always a product of these systems and we have to learn independently on how to do it without losing everything is a sign that we are just fucked from the start and have to learn "hacks" to not fail.
That’s just a rationalization. If you can’t afford a luxury gaming PC, don’t buy it. If you can, then sure put it all on a CC and pay the statement balance when it’s due. Paying interest just to improve your credit score is silly.

I took a $7k loan to buy a ridiculous gaming pc of absurd power in December 2023, with 3x 8TB M2 drives, a 4090, and 128GB of ram. I paid $300 a month for like two years.
The damn thing has almost completely held its value, and I’ve had two amazing years with it. No regrets at all.
I certainly wouldn't have paid interest for one (let alone two of them, wtf), but I did get a 4090 for 1599€ with an interest-free payment plan over 24 months. I wouldn't have bought it if I had to pay upfront at the time, but 2 years of 70€ per month is not that bad for a GPU that will probably remain near-top tier for about 5 years total.
As a graphics tech nerd, seeing pathtracing in the Cyberpunk Overdrive update was just too damn interesting. I played it for a week on my 3060Ti that was alreay struggling with regular ray tracing and could only take path-traced screenshots via the phoot mode, but it blew my mind that higher end GPUs could now run that global illumination in real time.
I've been playing games since Age of Empires 2, but path tracing was definitely the most impressive graphics experience I ever had.
Just as the payment plan finished, I sold that 4090 for almost 2000€ as the 5090 prices were finally coming down to upgrade for a tolerable cost.
Yeah ive seen retailers do that where you pay monthly for the product, Ik they do this especially for phones. Its sounds much better to do but i'd rather stick with buying in one go as it feels the safest. Also if you managed to upgrade from a 4090 to a 5090 with almost no extra cost (maybe a couple hundred bucks) thats great. nice job!
If it is a toy, getting a loan is stupid. If you need it to make money, doesn't seem different than getting a car loan for a new job.
For local Ai work, the 5090 is pretty fantastic when at MSRP. I'm currently running a 30b Q6 model with 6 parallel requests at ~4500 tokens a second. If I split it between multiple 3090 cards it would probably run slower, cost about the same (900 * 2 + pcie risers + extra PSU) and be used inventory.
For gaming, anything above a 5070ti doesn't make much sense at the moment. The 5090 sucks for cyberpunk path traced simply because my entire room heats up.
Same 😂, because I fried her for telling me "no babe you don't need to upgrade your ramm" (she doesn't know what ramm does) then here we are 9 months later and I had to let her have it and told her about our current ramm crisis so now she not only knows how much it was before but how much it is now I'm cooked either way 🙂
That is part of the reason why I still keep an old RTX 2070 box in the front of the cupboard where she can easily see it and only do upgrades when she's visiting her parents. Unfortunately she knows what a GPU is, what it costs and how much of a luxury item it is. 😂

I recently bought a used 1080 Ti and I was really excited to check Steam hardware requirements on games I used to not be able to play only to see RTX popping up everywhere now.
A GPU released eight years ago is what I can afford; I'll never be wealthy enough to get the newest hardware, but at least I can now play a lot of games that my poor little 1050 was struggling with.
Bought my wife a $3000 (stacker ring) for her engagement and wedding set now she has 3 bands now and I bought myself a $3000 Asus 5090 😂
