I don’t have issues while breathing in daytime. But, I have OSA and confirmed it by a at home sleep study. My vo2 max is also very poor for my age, that’s altogether a different issue not related to airway, I suppose

    [deleted]

Yes. I always felt tired , without focus, motivation and thoughtlessness no matter how many hours I slept. I didn’t relate this to apnea until recently.

Maybe, I am shallow breathing during daytime as well. I don’t do lot of manual work or cardio. So, I don’t notice it

  • I bought a pulse oximeter that is accurate enough for clinical use (smartwatches are very inaccurate when it comes to SpO2). The data was very clear, got treatment immediately.

The one I used is called "CheckMe O2", sold under different brand names like WellUe, ViHealth, Viatom, Pulox.

Both. My breathing issues were partly positional too so some nights I'd be completely fine while others I'd be several minutes as low as 83% SpO2. I collected a little more than two weeks' worth of data during which I recorded every night before I went to see a doctor again.

Buying ASAP. Thank you. Any tips on how to communicate this without sounding crazy? I think I’m pretty rational regarding this but every provider has been dismissive and I assume it’s going to get a lot worse once I suggest something as drastic as surgery.

I think the "how" isn't as much as a problem but "to whom". For most ENTs and orthodontists, airway-related breathing issues are very uncommon in their practice and they have negligible and outdated knowledge about these issues at best. That is why it is important to find someone with training or experience in that field. Sometimes they're called airway orthodontists, sometimes functional orthodontists... A sleep doctor can also be a good option who then maybe can refer you to the right people, as sleep apnea is a much more common diagnosis in sleep medicine than breathing issues in traditional orthodontics.

When you have the right doctor, just give him/her printouts of the graphs that the app (called ViHealth) of the CheckMe O2 generates.

By the way, my breathing issues were largely caused by traditional orthodontics in the first place. I am by now almost cured thanks to palate expansion to reverse the shrinking of my airways caused by dental extractions. There is a 7 months experience report in my profile here on Reddit.

I can agree wholeheartedly with your comments regarding posture, OBS, and facial development.

Can I message you to discuss your treatment path more candidly? I have a decent amount of questions if/when you have the time.

  • U may aswell stop treatment if ur looking for jaw surgery and not camouflage

    [deleted]

Ur just gunna end up doing another round of braces to reverse the camouflage if ur wanting jaw surgery

Yeah I’m likely delaying the inevitable but I’m honestly not able to breathe without my bite turbos on either. I can’t take my braces off and leave those on. Kind of trapped until I see a surgeon unless I find something else to prop my bite open in the interim.
