Just curious as to what workshops your studio offers/has offered? Mine has had rowing, OrangeTheory 101, nutrition, strength, and perimenopause/menopausal fitness.
There have been discussions about a rowing workshop at my studio and I’m ready to sign up. I don’t hate rowing but I know there is more to learn to help me improve form and know what I need to focus on with different row efforts
We had a treadmill workshop! I agree with others I hate rowing but I’d do a workshop- maybe if I had the knowledge about correct form I wouldn’t hate it so much
Exactly! Once you learn to properly move from catch position to finish and back to catch you will be happier and want to row more. Trust me. My form is immaculate and I still take the rowing workshops as you never stop learning!
When my studio first opened, they had a rowing class they offered. Really helped me with my form and they took the time to work with each person. I liked it!
My current studio is offering a few 101 classes over the next few months which I think will be similar but encompass more topics
We’ve had two rowing workshop since I joined 7 years ago (maybe three, if I’m being generous). I recently asked about doing a running workshop but got the impression it won’t be happening.
I would love if new members were strongly encouraged to take an OTF 101 class… especially if it covered the basics like wiping down your station before transitioning, which side of the bench to use when the floor is packed, and other general “don’t be that person” gym etiquette.
Right!! But why does it seem like some don’t know how to follow directions? A quick reminder email to the members wouldn’t hurt. Wipe things down, stay at your station. Is going from floor 8 to tread 8 really that confusing?
In more than 8.5 years at OTF, I can confidently say that no coach or staff member has ever said, “Use this side of the bench when class is full,” or anything like that. Not once. I’ve also never had an issue. We’re adults; we figure it out. There’s space for everyone, and it’s not worth sweating the small stuff.
As for the wipes, that’s largely sanitation theater. We’ve all chosen to work out in a small space, sweating alongside 20–30 other people, and in doing so we accept exposure to germs. Wiping down stations is certainly the courteous thing to do, though I can’t say I’ve ever noticed when someone didn’t wipe down their station. I’m sure it happens, I’m just not paying attention to what others are or aren’t doing, nor do I really care.
I think we can all agree not every coach or studio operates the same way. I’ve been to some smaller studios where coaches will suggest which side of the bench to use or which direction to face, and honestly, it can be really helpful when classes are full and space is tight.
When I step up on the treadmill and the previous person has left sweat on the sides, screen, or cup holder, it can be a bit hard not to notice (at least for me). I know everyone’s doing their best and workouts get intense, so a little awareness and consideration can go a long way in keeping the space comfortable for everyone
Not everyone who works out at OTF is an athlete and not all coaches correct form or provide feedback. I’ve been going to fitness classes for 15 years and I would take this class. Especially for people who need modifications that aren’t easily accessible in class.
No, I’d assume the classes were on from and not wiping down the benches. B it if you assume the people next to you are that dumb, then I feel sorry for your studio.
My studio's last rowing workshop was I believe in March (to set people up well for dri tri). It might have been March 2024, actually. I was one of three people who attended.
Before the holidays, my studio as well as the studio 15 minutes away scheduled a running workshop, led by a member who's a PT. It was great! I was the only one signed up at my studio, so it was canceled there, but I attended it at the other studio, where I was one of two participants.
Both workshops were right after the 9:30 a.m. class ended, which is a convenient time for a studio to host a workshop given the full-day class schedule, but probably not so convenient for members. And the studio that held the workshop did a good job of publicizing it on social media.
I believe we've had a few nutrition workshops on weekends that I haven't been able to attend.
I’ve seen a couple of coaches stay after class and offer a “mini workshop” on row technique but I wouldn’t say it was official. It would be awesome if they offered some of these that you mentioned!
I went to a studio that had a workshop on how to touch your private areas I was extremely uncomfortable but didn’t know what it was going to be about because I saw it on tha app as a workshop I never went back too weird for me
These sound awesome! My studio doesn’t have any workshops that I’ve seen!
I hate the rower so much but I’d take that rowing workshop 10 times if it could help me learn to love it.

LOL at “OTF 101,” this is not Kindergarten 😂

You need a class on wiping down benches? Ok

None- I wish we had these!!
We've had rowing and mobility. Sister studio had some sort of perimenopause/menopause thing.
None.

Unfortunately I don't think we have had any since COVID?
