I go to a Florida where all classes show up as 2G on the app. They started doing more 3G classes now that we’re in snowbird season. Some of those 3Gs are known ahead of time, while others are last-minute decisions to expand to allow more people into the class. The problem is, we are only seeing 2G listed in the app so we don’t know it until we arrive that we’re walking into a 3G class.

I asked last week if there was a way they could show the 3G classes in the app. Some are showing on their end as 3G, but in the app are still showing up as 2G. Is this something they can easily fix on their end so we know which type of class we’re signing up for? Thank you!

  • That would make me really upset bc I plan my day around taking 2G.

Same! Especially if you love the run to rows.

  • My studio does this too but it doesn’t last much past February when everything kinda goes back to normal. Honestly, if it means my studio is doing well and can stay open long/term, I’m ok to put up with it

  • They probably don't update until they see they have enough on the waitlist to justify. Sucks but I get it. Maybe ask/note which classes tend to be less attended if you prefer 2G.

I get it though I can only go to the last class of the day so a last minute switch would annoy me.

Yes, I think I’m just going to have to keep calling and asking to avoid some of the 3Gs. Last weekend I ended up in a 90 minute 3G class with a half hour of rowing! I enjoy rowing, but it can hurt my lower back to do that much of it! So I jumped around and skipped that part of the class.

  •  My experience has been that the class flipped within 10 minutes of the start time. My studio wouldn’t update under those circumstances. Some days (endurance days) I pray people force the flip 😩

  • I’ll get downvoted but from what I can tell, they just seem to change the class from what the app says whenever it’s convenient for them, and whatever the SA/Coach wants to do (for example if they have a friend taking the class). Possibly this is studio dependent but I’ve experienced this at multiple so I’m inclined to believe it happens elsewhere.

I’ve been turned down from 2G classes because they wanted to “honor the 2G” which I get. However, MANY times the same studio also last second switched the 2G to 3G to get other people in.

TLDR: The “policy” applies whenever they want it to

Nope. Youre not alone. It’s really irksome when the coaches OR SA’s show favoritism.

  • I wish that were the case. I don’t think I’d cancel because of a 3G, but sometimes it’s too much and I’d like to mentally prep. 🤪

Definitely! And do what works for your body.

  • My studio does the opposite! Everything is listed as 3G, but if there are fewer than 26 people they run it as a 2G. Most classes end up being 2G this way outside of the weekends at my studio, though.

I’m fine with doing it this way (2G/3G based on class size), but I agree it would be nice to be able to know in advance. This wouldn’t be easy for them to fix as it’s not a current feature on the app, but I would love a running number of how many people are currently signed up for the class.

Out of curiosity, does your studio switch to the 2G template or run the 3G template with 2 groups? My studio does this too but they still keep the 3G template and just don't allow people to start on the floor

    Switch to the 2G template!

They also have everyone start on the tread (and obviously 2G template) if there are less than 14 people (doesn’t happen often, but occasionally for certain times, like during the work day on weekdays).

You used to be able to use the OTF app or mind body. On mind body you could see the count of people already signed up. It was very helpful!

  • It definitely sucks, but if you have time to stay an extra 20-30 minutes, sign up for the class after and get in the extra tread time or floor time that you would have wanted. I do this sometimes when the classes are back to back and open.

  • Our studio has a long/held rule that the class that’s listed is the class that’s held.

If anything is changed, it’s done so with notice, well ahead of the cancellation window.

  • The studio can easily update this but it’s on the studio to do so.

Thank you. I’ll keep asking. If they know ahead of time it will be a 3G it would be great to see it that way in the app. Last minute is a different story, if they’re nicely trying to accommodate the long waitlist.

As soon as they make it a 3G, the app updates.

    Thank you!

  • It’s an easy fix they’re just being lazy and not doing it

It’s also against OTF policy to advertise one class type then switch to another class type. They are sinuses to run the type of class that’s listed in the app.

I have heard that is OTF policy, but not sure I agree with that. From what I understand people generally prefer 2G, so it makes sense to offer that as much as possible. But then, it’s generally preferable to do a 3G over shutting people out of a popular time slot. So then you are forcing the studio to have to anticipate attendance in advance, and possibly either make it a 3G for no reason (if they overestimated), or make it a 2G and have people who wanted to attend but can’t (if they underestimated).

My studio does the 2G/3G on the fly and I’m fine with it 🤷‍♀️. Granted, it would be nice if they could make this clearer on the app, but that’s a problem with OTF corporate policy/the app, not my studio.

I hear you and definitely also appreciate when they switch to a 3G at the last minute if there’s a lot of demand for the class! I got surprised last weekend with a 90 min 3G class with a half hour of rowing. But it’s rare that we would be in that situation as there are not many 90 min classes.

    Good to know, thank you!
