• “Elections Ontario documents show that in 2022, Starkovski’s Grand Bizarre was paid about $32,000 for fundraising expenses by the PC Party.”

Why was an adult entertainment club paid $32K for fundraising expenses by Ford?

  • So did Starkovski, who told CTV News at the time that “FYE Ultraclub is a new, standalone entertainment company” that is separate from his other ventures, the Grand Bizarre and Toronto Event Centre. He said he does not employ or train “strippers,” a term he said was “inaccurate and derogatory when referring to trained performance artists who specialize in burlesque and theatrical dance.”

... I mean, it is a strip club putting on airs.

  • Could we bring back the song, "A Bunch of Yahoos"?

Not so sure this is an issue of people being prudish.  The company owns what was apparently Rob Ford's favourite night club, got $10 million from Ford's Skills Development Slush Fund, and it looks like they're set to open their club on the Exhibition Grounds.  That raises more than a few questions if you ask me, regardless of the type of entertainment they were providing.

The problem is, the article doesn't actually get to the headline's "new questions" until paragraph 18. The first 17 paragraphs are fixated on shocking the reader about "Toronto’s edgiest and most sexually charged dance theatre company."

You are right about the SDF $ being the main issue, but CTV clearly thinks the more newsworthy focus is the titillation angle [pun intended].
