I like STRANGE AEONS for their stuff about internet culture. Videos about Tumblr lore was interesting to me because I wasn’t ever a part of that corner of the internet.
I used to watch Know Your Meme but haven’t seen any of their stuff in years.
I used to watch him too. Even though some of his takes are dumb. Like his claim that the super scope burns batteries in a few hours. I played the crap out of mine and the batteries lasted several months growing up
NakeyJakey is the best. I was blown away the first time I watched his Rap Review of Doom. He literally gives his review of the game in the form of a rap song!
OrcaMind, made up of Michelle Heafy and Josiah Everhart. They do a lot of covers of old video game songs, plus their original music. They both started on Youtube and still put songs up there, but they mainly do shows on Twitch (and are literally the only livestream I watch).
I think it's the fact that they specifically seem to focus on the exact generation of games I grew up with, maybe skewing slightly younger than me. Plus it's like they really feel the old games the way I do, if that makes any sense. Kind of hard to explain.
If we consider retro computing part of this discussion then LGR, ActionRetro, and RetroBytes are go tos. Gaming wise Stop Skeletons From Fighting is good stuff, as is Matt McMuscles’ series What Happened is solid also.
Gaming: AnyAustin, ScottTheWoz and his second channel Scott’s Stash, Good Vibes Gaming, Nintendo Life, Austin John Plays, Markiplier, Spawn Wave (for news)
Gaming + Internet Culture: Charlie (penguin0 / moistcritikal), Ludwig, Connor (cdawgva), years ago I would’ve added pewdiepie
Internet Culture: I actually don’t know how you’d define this as a video genre. Maybe cold ones?
OSW Review. Three lads by the names Jay Hunter, V2 and Mr OOC who review oldschool wrestling shows in their trademark Irish ways.
Hugo One. He does casual speedruns of the Grand Theft Auto series, only usually with a spin on it through a personal challenges like having the chat vote on cheats that can screw over his progress.
Oliver Harper. He does well put together retrospective reviews of films and also film commentaries from time to time.
Gamingwise, NeverKnowsBest has really good long form content. Their history videos are epic and pretty thorough.
I like some of The Salt Factory’s videos too. His stuff is more informal and is pretty funny sometimes.
/noclip makes some well researched stuff as well. They actually interview the people who made the games that they make videos about.
Girlfriend Reviews was funny and fun at the beginning but I feel like they got burnt out eventually.
NakeyJakey is pure fun. He’s got a unique sense of humor and offers interesting insights into gaming. He also is a pretty decent hip hop artist (“Cafeteria” is cool but I can’t vouch for all of his music) and even got a 60 minute interview by Fantano. Music aside, his “Games That Should Bang” series is cool. A lot of his stuff is about how games influenced his life so there is an autobiographical aspect at times. His video “How Counter-Strike Took Over My Life” is one of his best.

Happyconsolegamer. I started watching Johnny when I was 12. I’m now 29 and still enjoying his content.
