This is kinda why I've avoided Samsung appliances in general. Reviews show forced ads on some TVs and fridges so a subscription service would be put on if they think they could get away with it.
For this reason, fuck Amazon fire devices too. I returned mine when I started getting adverts for McDonald's on the home screen. Screw that. I don't mind tv shows and films, podcasts even... Products? Sod off. :)
My first Samsung smart tv (circa 2015) had an ad on the input list at all times. I got rid of that tv about 3 years ago and I can only assume it's gotten worse since then. TV manufacturers are heavily incentivized to include unavoidable advertising in their products so they can continue to make money after the initial purchase.
There are cars that do this with things like heated seats and horsepower! So the car you buy is already equipped and capable of whichever function but you have to pay a subscription fee for park assist, for instance. It's a bleak looking future!
This is a Samsung microwave. The app is pretty useless. It just lets you set time and temp but not start it, which is pretty pointless. Not that anyone needs an app to start a microwave anyway.
Same, I'm genuinely perplexed. You're always going to need to check the food before you decide to extend the microwave time anyway, so as you said, you're right there. If it was a smart oven at least I could understand because you need to preheat it.
I have a smart-washing machine (meaning, my landlord put a smart washing machine). Operating it via the app is wayyyyy easier than operating it via the dial. I guess it would be the same with the microwave.
It's not that extreme. But I moved countries, I don't speak the local language at the level to understand the instructions and the machine has functions that I'm not familiar with. Combined, and with the amount of challenges in general, it's just a battle not worth fighting
I've seen a camera in some appliance products. I believe it's done with a small glass insulating panel in the chamber.
We don't make any of those today, but my company's probably going to bring at least one model to the US market in the next year. Countertop cooking appliances like combo microwaves, electric grills, etc are good candidates.
The big question is, are there any factories making them outside of China? Because Chinese kitchen appliances still have 25-45% tariffs and consumers want cheap products.
(If you represent a factory outside of mainland china and currently make kitchen appliances for the US market, DM me some basic info)
what a shitty use of our ressources ... all theses chips produce to provide usless complexification, why would you need a remote connexion to your microwave ... you still need to go in front of it to load it ...
And if you try to open it up and fill it around with it to make it work without the subscription, it will send a message, and the police will be on the way to arrest you…
everyone should have a 2nd wifi (if possible using only 2,4Gz so it doesn't interfer with your main wifi) in a separate VLAN with only acces to the weeb for all of your IOT device.
I would not buy a microwave with connectivity, but I do have some product that benefit from automation that I don't want to invest to manage at my lvl ( lights, outlet, heating, ...)
what does the phone load the food in for you too? If you have to physically be there anyway, what's the goddamned point of an INTERNET CONNECTED MICROWAVE
I hope you can still nuke stuff without your phone.
Wait until we need monthly subscriptions and apps to use our microwaves, stoves, open fridges, etc.

I've never had a forced ad on my samsung tvs wtf

No way they’d do this. The massive loss of TV sales would not be made up for by some ads
My tv fridge and washing machine don't got ads
holy shit.. they added new months??! /s

Some powered wheelchairs/power attachments for manual chairs also have that function, then you have to pay for a subscription to make it faster.
That's fucking disgusting!
Isn’t it!

When I was a kid, we used to have a TV with a coin meter lol.
I cannot for the life of me conceive of a use case where someone's available to put food into the microwave but not able to start the microwave going.

Still, doesn't justify the thing.
Now I'm deeply curious what the dials on your washer are like, not gonna lie!

Can it put cold food in the microwave for you?
lol. My oven came with wifi and an app.
Except it pretty much won't let you do anything except set a timer.
You can technically change the oven temp, but not until you manually turn it on. And iirc, you can only turn it down.
Absolutely no controls for the stove part.
And! You can't even turn it off from the app lol.
Itd be cool if they could somehow get a camera in that oven where you can check on the food through the app instead of opening the oven.
I dont think you can get a camera that would work in there though
I mean you could, but it would really inflate the cost of the oven

What brand? You are opening up your home and WiFi network to rogue network scanners and such.
Probably have to subscribe to use the microwave soon enough too.
"Oh, sorry, 100% power is only available to subscribed plan users..."

Now All of china knows you are Making Popcorn
Because I always put food in and then walk away /s
I’m tired of smart appliances. If I have to be there to interact with it anyway I’d rather it be a simple machine.
This is why the few Smart Devices in my home have big angry "wifi disconnected" icons blinking on them.
If it dont work without a phone app...it aint gonna be in this house.
What’s a dingdang phone? Is that like a Samsung?
There's no way I'm letting my microwave on the internet.
I've got one that tells me when my cat poops.

Just in case you want microwaved food but you're not near the microwave?

Put some popcorn in and when you’re ready to have some start the microwave
Heating up a pre-placed muffin from bed like "tactical nuke deployed!"
Why
Ain't that the shit? Don't really see the point but still...very cool
Proud of the dingdang.
