Seen this video on other subreddit. Commenters found dog nothing but cute and adorable. I found it worrying and terrifying.
Given I also have strange phobia of humans with dog faces (depictions are all over human art history), I think this video brought up in me something similar rather than phobia of amputees.
The fucks he supposed to do?
fly, obviously
LOL this was also my reaction.

More cute than terrifying imho
That's exactly what I thought! Poor little fella figured it out. :)
Ever notice how animals seem to have very little trouble adapting to traumas like loss of limb(s)? I guess it's because they don't have the emotional component to battle.
I always find myself wondering how aware they are of it. Like, does this dog actually realize how different they're walking from other dogs? Or is it just normal for them because that's what they know?
Excellent questions that I've pondered as well!
Inaccurate. Certain injuries can cause animals to flat out be depressed, and you see a genuine happiness with prosthesis. What changes is that they have to do it for survival so whining about it like humans is not helpful. We can adapt just as fast.
In fact it’d be easier for you if you were to lose an arm because whilst you have the emotional trauma of it you also have the intelligence to know how limited you are whilst animals very much occasionally act as if they had both limbs like cat phantom slaps.
Edit: typo
Yeah. People always assume animals are biorobots that easily adapt to anything. Such a minor thing as a smaller habitat, slightly changed environment or an unfamiliar animal around them can cause depression or severe anxiety in some animals. Humans are pretty adaptable comparing to others animals.
We don't know what they feel when they lose a limb. It's hard to know what another human speaking the same language feels about their trauma, but animals can't even explain it verbally.
Despite not being able to live in extreme conditions, we’re actually some if the most adaptable on the planet.
Extremophiles are geared to their specific extremes, more adaptable creatures like tardigrades would die under strong solvents whilst we wash our hands and equipment with them, we use poisons like thc for fun or onions for flavouring (yep) etc.
There’s so much that we do that outright kills other animals.
We just complain all the way
I am simply going by what I have OBSERVED in animals I've known who lose a limb. I didn't say that animals are "biorobots" who are NEVER affected by injuries, illness, or loss... I've seen my animals grieve the loss of their companions. I was speaking mostly regarding them PHYSICALLY adapting to the loss of a LIMB. I've seen animals lose a leg and take very little time to adjust before running like the wind. I also never presumed to know how an animal feels about the loss of a limb. Again, I'm referring only to what I have WITNESSED in regards to their PHYSICAL adaptation, such as the dog in the video learning to walk upright when missing front legs. I also did not say that humans do not show incredible resilience of spirit in the face of limb loss. There's nothing more indomitable than the human spirit.
Hey it wasn't a personal attack. It is a common misconception that animals are primitive and lacking emotions and awareness. If you don't believe that, good. But it doesn't change that the whole global society operates on this assumption, including agriculture and the scarcity of laws and cultural awareness to prevent straight up brutality against non human animals
I know. I'm actually a die-hard animal lover & advocate... so I know all too well how much they can struggle and it kills me to see an animal in pain... physically or emotionally. I used to have this dog named Ewok that I swear would get depressed... though we couldn't figure out why because there was nothing we could tell in his environment or life that should have upset him. He was very well loved & treated as a family member (I've always treated my pets as my babies). But he'd walk around with his tail dragging (he was a Peekapoo... part Pekingese & part Poodle... so his tail was normally curled up over his back).. so maybe, just as people get clinical depression due to a chemical imbalance in the brain, so do animals. And I also saw this video that deeply affected me as a child about a mother cat who chewed on her tail so much after her kittens were re-homed that the vet had to amputate it, because it had gotten infected. And the reason was she had a severe reaction of separation anxiety & depression from her kittens being removed too early & all of them at once... poor baby. So they put her on a low dose of Prozac & she GREATLY improved. And the use of SSRIs like that in cats & dogs isn't as uncommon as we might think.
One of my cats was sleeping under the hood of Dad's work truck and his leg got mangled. Dad dropped everything and took him to the vet for an amputation, was off work for several days caring for him. That cat became so absolutely attached to him and completely ignored the rest of the family and other cats.
When my Dad passed, he was inconsolable. Absolutely nobody or anything could help. He cried almost non stop for months and refused to eat most of the time. They ended up euthanizing him as an act of mercy.
I also have a cat now who got loose for 4 days and has never been the same after we found her. She has absolutely terrible food anxiety. Never stops scavenging. You can not leave anything edible sitting out and turn your back on it for even a minute. This is difficult, because she's a runt/dwarf and specifically needs her food moderated. I feel terrible giving her so little when the only thing she wants to do is eat.
Animals definitely can become traumatized
Featherless? Biped? This is a man
Still bad for his bones though, right? I mean, dog legs aren’t built for that kind of walking
Yes it’s bad for them. Compensating for something like this puts more strain on other parts of the body. It’s the same for humans if you have an injury the way you compensate for it causes strain on other parts. Like if one leg is hurt the way you compensate for it might put strain on your other leg, your back or your hips for example. I think mostly the joints and muscles are of most concern. It’s why it’s important to get things addressed before it causes more problems.
This dog could benefit from a sort of wheelchair but those for dogs are really expensive and can be restrictive for a dog. At least this one isn’t a large breed but I’d still worry that it will end up with problems as it ages. Still doing its best considering the circumstances!
Literally brought a tear to my eye it was so cute.
I was sooo proud of this little girl, when she hopped up into the couch I let out an audible AWWWWWW
Right! The Empire better watch out if this little guy has some friends.
This isn’t oddly terrifying at all, it’s oddly adorable
I'm guessing OP has an empathy problem
Bro has no front legs. Do you expect him to hold his body forward without two legs to support hs body weight?
Give him a big tail for counterbalance and you get a tiny fluffy T-Rex
Just give him the fake tiny T-Rex little arms
Aww you could attach them to a headband on lil springs so they could wobble as he walks 🥺
honestly any time I see a pet with this issue I always find it cute because it reminds me of dinosaurs lol
cats especially, they kind of look like carnotaurus
Poor thing. I wonder how long his hips are going to be up for this 😔
The dog seems to be an amputee, thus walking on hind legs? I didn’t find it terrifying either.
It's awesome IMHO. What a smart little fella! Cute af too!
That cant be good for his spine. Are there any alternatives, like some prosthetic wheels or something?
I remember reading it's hell on the joints bc they were never supposed to be in that position and carrying all the weight. :(
It took us several millions of years and still it causes terrible knee and back pain in old age
I’ve seen those little harnesses with wheels on them for dogs that lose limbs, I imagine that would be better for his little spine than walking like that
I'm sure the owner has everything. There's even a little contraption near the couch for the dog. It's just that they'll obviously need to remove the harness from time to time or even just chilling in the house.
This part! Even humans choose to take off their prosthetics and mobile aids
Thank you for this comment. Made me feel a bit better. I hope the little guy is happy and well taken care of.
He was walking around really confidently and was going over to his owner for snuggles, so I feel he's doing pretty good.
Yeah I don’t think this is cute at all. That poor dogs joints and spine won’t do well when it’s older
You're on your own OP.
Doggo pushed past his limitations and is living his best life.
It's amazing how well cats and dogs adapt to disabilities.
[deleted]
But, why? I understand that it's an instinct we have, but I don't think you need to feel bad for him, seeing as he certainly doesn't seem to be feeling bad for himself. Yes, he has no front legs, but it doesn't appear to have handicapped him or even slowed him down! Also, given that it appears that he's got a TOTAL loss of BOTH front legs equally... if it makes you feel any better I think he's been born without them.
It probably hurts his back since he’s meant to be on all fours
"We have a bridge that we're using as a ladder."
Having a bad back is better than just dying

*upright
its natural to feel sad when we see an animal missing its limbs
maybe it doesnt really know what its missing and its adapted to surviving this way, but all of us know itd be better if it had been born with legs, able to run and jump and go for walks and chase after birds
Of course, I don't deny that. It's unquestionably better to be born with everything. But it's hard to pity them when they seem to spend no time pitying themselves and show such ingenuity & amazing adaptation.
They feel bad for him because he's missing half of his legs. Obviously. Come on, it's not hard to figure out.
The owner needs dog wells like right now, an dog wasn't made to walk like that, it's gonna slowly give him back problems and his spine will get fucked up
Aw He’s just a little guy with no arms :(
Want him dragging his face on the floor instead like some kind of Rod Riess titan?
I still love this analogy xD
This is not terrifying.
It's rather sad.
Wrong sub
Not terrifying but sad and cute :) Sad because poor puppy doesn’t have front legs Cute cause he seems happy and I am glad to see he is having an owner and is probably living nicely :D
Thats not terrifying. He's just adapting to his condition and doing the best he can.
Oh cmon, he’s a sweet baby. Face your fears OP, pet the dog
"oddly terrifying" and it's the cutest video I've seen all day
I'm not disturbed by it. I'm just worried by it.
Get help OP
I think it's really cute!! It's just adapted to what it's got (or doesn't)
I mean, does it have any other choice?! That can’t be comfortable
You def have a phobia, OP and that's ok.
Poor thing
I mean, it's not like it's got any other options. And terrifying? This puffball would weigh about 5kg, tops. Really?
That jump onto the the couch was a thing of beauty.
They should dress him up as an Ewok for Halloween. That dog’s adorable.
“Where are my testicles, Jerry? Where are my testicles?”
Never skips leg day
Where are my testicles, Summer?
The poor little one was probably born that way. I just want to reach out and pick it up and hug it.
“Heard you were talking some shit…”
This isn't terrifying and it speaks to the nature of dogs, that nothing gets them down they persevere through anything. It's adorable and I aspire to be like that dog, to just adapt and persevere through anything
How else is he supposed to walk?
Videos like this make me admire the way animals are able to adapt to unforeseen circumstances.
"Where are my testicles, Summer?"
Cute but they remind me of a minecraft creeper
L'il Brudder. He's got the heart of a champion! 😭
Awww, give them a sock!
Animals are amazing. No matter their issue, they never feel sorry for themselves. Always the survival instinct.
That dog needs a wheelchair
Well... It only has two legs... What is the dog supposed to do?
Be scared if it's walking on no legs
Please tell me his name is Rex…
That is the cutest fucking thing. He's like a little ewok
This little buddy needs harness wheels 🥲
Naw this is absolutely adorable
Thats a cool lil dude
Lemme guess, his name's Rex? 🤣
He looks like one of those demented long furbies people make lol
Also, he made it to the couch - good job buddy! 🥰
Bosco! Stop evolving. Bad dog! Bad dog!
OP, you have problems
No, illegal opinion. This belongs firmly in r/eyebleach
“Look at him… Standing there on his hind legs. Just like Rory Calhoun”
That's not terrifying, that's love
it's just a lil baby trying to make do in this world :( nothing terrifying at all.
Does it have wheels for when going out for a walk?
He is adorable
I just see a dog that adapted amazingly to something that you would expect to cripple them for life. More impressive than scary.
Creeper
This is the cutest thing I've seen all month
among us
This is not oddly terrifying, this is sad :c
How is this oddly terrifying? It’s a good dog trying its best with the handicap it was born with.
I hope the owner eventually got a harness with a wheel axle for the dog.
Finally something oddly terrifying not just outright terrifying.
The way it looks and moves is unsettling.
I’m sure they are a lovely dog though but this is something that would spook me at first glance.
I can ride my bike with no handlebars, no handlebars, no handlebars.
Little dude doesn’t have front legs, what else were you expecting him to do?
WTF, is it supposed to do, worm it's way around?
Nothing terrifying, wow op smh
Not scary, but very sad
All I want to do is pick him/her up and just give a big hug and play bites(you know what I mean)
Poor little fella, smart and determined though.
Featherless, biped. This is a man.
That is adorbs
But get this gremlin some wheels. That's no good for his tiny little hips
I laughed when I saw what sub this was posted in
I thought the dog had its arms crossed THEN I saw there were no arms THEN I thought their arms were crossed again. THEN the dog jumped and I saw that there were no arms. Do I make myself clear?
Well, it doesn’t have much of a choice now, does it?
That little bunny hop onto the couch at the end? Precious!
"Humans with dog faces"? Oookay. I don't understand why this is terrifying. The sweet baby has no front legs & so he learned how to walk upright. I personally think it's amazing & adorable.
What's terrifying to me is a video I remember seeing about another dog who could do this. That dog did have both his front legs but for whatever reason he walked upright.... he didn't do it all the time, just some. But the terrifying thing to me was that when he was adopted & his new owners saw him do it, they got freaked out and actually took him back.
Ob two or Obi one?
Youd love the art installation where they have millionaires as dogs pooping photos of people it takes.
not terrifying but cute
That's a creeper.
It's definitely unnerving, it has adapted to life without front legs and can with ease, walk like a human and that in itself I think OP finds terrifying.
Nature and it's sheer will to evolve and adapt rapidly is scary.
If this is in this subreddit then OPs a pussy. That dog is nothing but cute.
So cute!
"Oi oi mate, wass goin awn?!"
Oh come on, he’s just a handicap-able little floofball!
It's a mawg!
Brian 🐶
WHY IS THIS IN THE ODDLY TERRIFYING SUBREDDIT!!! LOOK AT THAT ADORABLE BUNNY HOP!!!
I just badly fractured my left leg and am on crutches. Super immobile.
The idea that this little boy lost double the limbs I did and yet is more mobile than I am....both hilarious and sobering. I wish i could walk on my hands too
Poor thing!
Brian from Family Guy
Where are his paws, summer?
how is it terrifying? it’s just a dog with a disability.
Awwwh how is this terrifying? My heart breaks for that little pupper
They can do it they just don't want to
I shouldn't find this funny, it's messed up. But here I am, trying not to laugh. I'm so sorry for that dog, but it seems it's doing fine
No, not terrifying.

Still cute
I just see a cutie patootie living his life
Such a cutie
It has only 2 tho...
Aw poor little fella
I still wanna be his friend. But Dexter would make me jump doing this.
Worrying? What are you worried about…?
Poor little dog
Not scary. A good boi.
Why do you find it "worrying"?
God damn the core strength on that dog must be incredible
Very cute, but also very surreal looking. The existence of a domesticated household dog is already such a bizarre and unique thing. I’m always wondering what the dogs think is going on, what their experience of life is like.
Now add all the normal weirdness of a dogs life, AND it’s gotta hop around on two legs like some kind of eldtritch kangaroo? What does the lil guy think of everything? I wanna hug it.
2+0=2 How you expect lil homie to walk?
Oddly terrifying, an amputee not using its amputated limbs. I'm terrified!
https://imgur.com/a/bNPBgcS
"Got any games on your phone"
To be fair, it's not like lil dude has much of a choice.
I wanna hug it and cry for the sake of it
OBviously🙄
he looks like a little bunny jumping cuuute
Cutie
Poor little dude. Of course he’s walking on two legs. It’s all he’s got. I wonder if he has a wheel chair for running.
Someone get me a mop cause my heart just melted
She's a little digglet
r/oddlycute for me :)
I think is cute ad fuck but I do get where you are coming from, i think this would fall under uncanny valley, the dog is doing human action s that they would usually dont do, i get it
This is more sadly than terrifying
Oh poor thing. He needs a wheelchair. His little hips are going to develop problems. They’re not meant to walk upright.
This is not "terrifying" if anything it's sad. Lol this sub
Aww he looks so cute! Nothing terrifying about this
Nothing terrifying about that at all.
Just a very good boy who has been put in a difficult situation and he’s doing his best to get by and enjoy life. Seems like he’s succeeding too.
It just makes me a little bit sad actually
Must protect and infinite pet.
Cylindrical little fella
BEHOLD! A MAN!
Thats not terrifiying, thats a good boy!!
Do NOT give him a sock or he'll be free
That's adorable, but it can't be good for her hips
He only freaking has two! What’s he supposed to do buddy?
Hey! How dare you. He's trying his fucking best.
I don't find it terrifying. He's just adapting only way he can. I do hope he's not doing himself any damage though. It's not the way his joints were designed.
Kangaroo
I mean, it’s not like he has a choice…
What a champ! Poor guy though. 😟
Give the dog some wheels because this is bad for their hips.
This shouldn’t be posted. The dog lost his front legs gambling with the yakuza. They now know he is still alive and will hunt him down
0% terrifying 100% odd 100% cute
this is sweet🥰
Not terrifying at all. Very cute and a very good boy for making it work. Good job little one.
