funny how this looks exactly like a random dirt pile until you remember it’s several million miles away and moving at insane speed

The crazy part depending on how big it is, if you were standing on it, you wouldn't know you were traveling at an insane speed.

You got to understand. That blackness there, is millions and millions of miles of nothing. Just the void.

    Terrifying? Nope, pretty damn cool.

    parent
    5 points jpdelta6

Oh it’s cool. Same way the sun is kinda cool. Or a black hole. But it’s still scary to look at that darkness and just know that’s the true void.

Looks like old insulation in an attic

I used to live in a house built in 1900 with a really scary basement, a single, naked lightbulb hanging from the low rafters.

On one side, there was a wound punched in the spalling ancient brick walls sometime in the 1970s to thread furnace ductwork under a section of the house. Inside the hole was a dark, claustrophobic crawlspace moonscape of dirt and debris, looking a lot like OP's photo.

That actually sounds more accurate now that you lay it out like that. I used to help a plumber in the afternoons and weekends for extra $ and we went in a lot of old ass basements that had keepy ass crawlspaces.

One that comes to mind was in a pastors home, no idea how old the house was but he owned that house and the one next to it and they were connected by a bridge that came off the second floor and a surprise corridor in the basment. It was weird because they were and still are separate properties. They have their own addresses, utilities, etc. In the basement of the pastors main house it had a tunnel that was dirt, which was weird because his basment was semi finished. But when you rounded the corner in the storage room it just opens up into a dirt tunnel that was about 8ft tall and 6ft wide. It went in 30ft then went right and got narrower. Not sure what was after that, the plumber stopped me because it was a separate property and was being rented by someone so it was trespassing. He said it lead into their basement. It was just a really weird set up.
