Assuming that the second piece is the same thickness as the first, that's as far as it's going. There isn't a stepped offset there, it is just bending the cut sections inward. To get tighter, the second piece would have to flare out
At this point I’m just welding bits of rust back together. It’s a bizarre frankenstein of wooden panels, random reinforcement metal I have lying around, and the hopes and payers of whoever’s driving behind me. It could have been entirely zinc at one point, but at this point in the ship of theseus it’s probably safe to work on for anyone with a tetanus shot
You definitely can weld galvanized metal, there's just extra concerns to worry about.
The fumes from galvanized materials are especially toxic and will give you zinc poisoning if you breath them. You'll also need to deal with coating/painting/treating it because you'll have stripped the galvanizing later away and it will rust.
You kidding? It needed 2-3 more taps! So unsatisfied!

Ready for welding
Mmmm welding galvanized!
Good point. They may not be welding it, but this is such a weird join without it
Can you not weld galvanized metal?
Zinc fumes are bad for you. Which is probably pretty obvious, but it only takes a little zinc to develop noticeable symptoms.

Ahh, gotcha. Thanks mate. I’ve only welded random stuff on my trailer and tractor, so I’m no expert
It'd be crazy if you listed your trailer and found out it was made from zinc or had a coating.

People like to pretend safety practices don’t exist
Yes but still!!
Yea, like a rubber glove. Always that one finger that doesn’t quite get to the end.
That’s what she said!
Lo mismo, no me siento para nada satisfecho
I should call him
I should call her...
Just call each other 🧠
Dang, got a busy signal.
Did they call each other?
😅😅
I was going to ease it in like a gentleman, not ram it home
That gap at the bottom is frustrating
If I've learned anything from Reddit, caulk will take care of that /s
Bit of caulk, bit of paint, she’ll be right as rain
A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain’t
I like!
Maybe some ramen
This is what I think of every time I hear “like a glove”.
That metallic clank is music to my ears
Usually I don't need to tap the gloves onto my hand with a hammer but still a snug fit
That’s a glove
Here's hoping that member doesn't experience any lateral loading otherwise someone is going to have a bad day.
The crease in infuriating.
Just tap it in, tap it in, give it a little tappy, tap tap taparoo

Why are there so many people being downvoted?
I thought that was brick, or cement at first, and I was like WTF!?!
Oh that is a good idea!!!
I can hear it
You need better gloves
I don't remember having to use a hammer to put my gloves on....
Nice job 👍
