I’ve got my favorite spots, but just curious what you all got as as your favorite or top few in case I haven’t been there yet.
I look forward to the replies and even more so to trying some of the recommendations! For more context, I’m Mexican American, eaten them my entire life, here and in Mexico, and my favorite are torta ahogadas. The recommendations though or not for ahogadas, just tortas. Thanks in advance everyone!

Haven't found an ahogadas that comes close to what I had in Jalisco. But following this post and hoping
Taqueria San Juan in San Pablo has a torta ahogada that I like a lot. The sauce is chipotle based, both spicy and addictive. Not Oakland but still in the East Bay. The best one I have had in NorCal was in Orland.
Not in Oakland but Tortas GDL y Mas in San Jose has great ahogadas. Haven’t been able to find anything in Oakland that’s as good

I'm guessing El Ojo de Agua isn't around anymore? That truck was amazing. A huge menu of tortas with different meat combos and funny names like "beso de novia," and "mojado sin licencia."
The owner was a REALLY nice guy too.
EL Farolito Oakland had the best Mexican tortas by a long shot.
