• The chain has been shrinking, but it's not entirely gone. The last one is still open on Durant in Berkeley.

Last?!? Been in LA for the last 5 years so this is a shock to me

  • Damn these guys made sure I was able to afford lunch while working retail in the lakeshore area. Glad I don’t have to rely on them anymore but I woulda gone hungry a lot if not for their four dollar dogs :(

Still a dog and a soda for less than 5, went for the first time in years last week and I was blown away.

  • This place got me through some hard times. RIP

  • It’s closing? Edit: closed? Wow

  • Gonna miss this place. Loved not having to fight through hordes of college kids and having plenty of room and time to apply the condiments. RIP.

  • The only way I wouldn’t be sad is if they brought back the Ice Creamery.

  • Top dog is Oakland history. Who is the property manager? Name and shame.

  • Every one of these posts is like a knife twisting... Especially after learning that theyre only leaving because of a miscommunication in the property managers change.

Im curious what's going to be replacing it, I hope it's a national chain. Any local business is doomed from the jump. Sad day for affordable eats. I'm gonna miss my accessible kielbasa dogs and the awesome employees that they had.

landowners charging absurd rent for the spaces has been an issue and will continue to be.

I am crossing my fingers that this stays local. I know how the math works for big chains, but I make it a point to put my money toward homegrown spots. I just want to do my part to keep Oakland feeling like Oakland.

While I completely agree, and I make an effort to keep my money local, anyone coming in is going to be in a really tough spot.

    Agree. Hopefully a Chipotle. /s

Chipotle is nearby where this is/was

  • Wow.. Top Dog was always one of my go-to’s. Sad to see this one go.

  • NOOOOOOOO!

No, no, no, no. This fucking sucks, I would go there as often as I could. What's next, colonial?

Lake Merritt won't be the same without this place

I think colonial is load bearing. If you got rid of it the whole building would collapse.

  • OK, a joke I wrote myself, don't worry, I am a dad.

You have heard of The Sone Age,

    The Iron Age,

    The Bronze Age, etc.

Bruce Aidell was responsible for ushering in....

    The Chicken Applesauce Age.

I hadn’t heard of The Sone Age before today :/
