weather.gov is usu fairly accurate 72hrs out (pending DOGE cuts). its the same raw data commercial weather sites use for their forecasts, just with less "over promise under-deliver" incentive.
ie, weather apps/channels use the same data but slightly over-predict inclement weather, bec customers/users will be less annoyed if its sunny when it said rain than the reverse.
Their probabilistic snowfall forecast graphics are the most accurate I've seen anywhere. They're quite hidden though, click the "probabilistic snowfall forecast" tab on this page: https://www.weather.gov/okx/winter (Ignore the "offical forecast", it's always overestimated).
Right now it has manhattan at: 39% for >6", 70% for >4", and 89% for >2".
Doge very much exists with permanent positions in multiple agencies like the FAA/IRS/SSA and a few bank agencies. During the shutdown IRSU was completely fired and a few of the doge were permanently hired at the IRS. In the SSA some were given permanent roles back in August.
They want to sell off the property and then fire the people allowing them to privatize it.
The damage is just starting. Russ Vought the primary author of P2025 wants to destroy the soul of all federal employees. Russ can do so because he is head of the office of budget management.
The goal is to privatize the government and to decrease the services that the government provides. Use tax dollars to pay companies for services that federal employees already do.

I used to live in Nassau where it hardly ever snows anymore so when I saw the prediction in Suffolk I was like yeah sure. Well...I was wrong. Half a foot. Pride cometh before the fall. And then of course it froze right away and made things even more dangerous. Learned my lesson.
Travel question: is it too early to call about flying in Saturday evening? I booked a trip for new years and saw the weather reports so also booked a last minute Amtrak from Charleston but would definitely like to fly — what do yall think are the odds?
Saturday evening should be fine. We are getting some additional light snow on Saturday, but that should be cleared out to sea well before your arrival.
Maybe because the facts of the story are actually true. ABC News says the same. So did NY1. Truly one of the weirdest things in this sub is people going ballistic over NY Post. Yeah they have a POV and yeah it’s tabloid level. But that doesn’t mean everything they publish is wrong.
Also, they are the basically the only local news source we have with any funding behind it. NYTimes might as well not be here anymore, WSJ cut their section, NYDN is a shadow of its former self. The new media sites (i.e. The Gothamist) are all mostly garbage.
NYPost will send reporters to random city and local meetings. And ya, it's a tabloid. How you are supposed to read the post is find the bits that are factual. Quotes are real, for example. Images, links, documents, are all real.
Because it’s owned but a POS, it’s a tabloid, they have no journalistic integrity, are very obviously biased, and there are better sources? There are tons of other reasons.
They are unfortunately pretty much the only local newspaper we have left, covering lots of stuff that nobody else ever picks up on. The New York Times is pretty much just national news now; you can't rely on them to actually cover local news.
I’m flying into LGA around noon on Saturday. Thoughts on if I should cancel my trip in advance so I don’t get bit with a hotel charge or will I be fine?
Trump looked up at the clouds and parted his hands and said, “you’re gonna snow in the northeast again or you’re fired!” And the clouds said “yes Mr President sir right away.” No more playing around!
I see less than an inch for manhattan …
Forecasts 4-8 up here in lower Westchester. Probably OP is quoting the regional snow forecasts.
I bet if we get 4, manhattan will at least get a couple
Edit: just rechchecked and now they’re saying 5-7in for my area
It's crazy that people up in Westchester dont simply employ the mutant Storm to change the weather
I'm in Washington Heights, and Google Weather is showing 8.1 inches for tomorrow.
I’m seeing 5-8 inches. Apple weather is terrible.
It’ll snow for 10 minutes, rain for 8 hours, and we will have gotten nasty in the supermarket fighting over eggs for no reason.
“Oh whoops look like the storm shifting an inch north so we’ll actually be getting rain for 48 hours!”
Always. Got me fucking fuming
Mad that I gotta go to the closer bodega that charges a dollar more for the shittier BEC
this comment had me weak. but shit is real.
wrong
From your mouth to God’s ears
My weather app predicts 0.2 inches of sleet.
Mine is 7 inches for Kings County
Why not tonight so I can stay home and watch stranger things instead of going to work?
Why can't anything good ever happen??
So sorry that you have to work on Christmas.
Hope they’re paying you double time.
If there’s one thing I trust. It’s meteorologists making weather predictions several days in advance.

Weather.gov used to be the most accurate not sure now with all the cuts
Huh? DOGE no longer exists.
Money they cut still affects things and not all of those effects have been seen yet.

ugh Social Security is one of the most efficient programs in all government, nearly zero waste. wtf are they going to cut there?

i cant believe the morons who voted for this.
I've read Ayn Rand, I don't have to watch that youtube to know what Project 2025 intends. Congress and SCOTUS still have to go along with it, though.

Just going to be Sleet, 90% sure
Tbf we thought that a few weeks back for that one Sunday
I'll believe it when I see it.

It's the fucking ny post. Surprised they can't find an angle to blame 'communist Mamdani' somehow.
Why isn’t this shit garbage tier publication banned from this sub?

Doesn’t mean that their reporting on the snow forecast is wrong and should be “banned.”

This ain't gonna be shit. The last real blizzard was around 2016 where I walked 50 blocks to meet up with a tinder date with snow up to my knees.
Oh great I’m flying in from Atlanta on Friday
Is this for real ? Because its still just a winter "watch"
Do we think flying out of JFK at 10:30AM Saturday is doable?
remember 2010 it also snowed right after christmas and what a shit show that was! hopefully it wont be anything like that this year.
Will metro north shut down? I’m supposed to return from Fairfield Saturday evening
When they hype it up you know it’s gonna be nothing.
I’m flying into LGA around noon on Saturday. Thoughts on if I should cancel my trip in advance so I don’t get bit with a hotel charge or will I be fine?
What time will the snow start? 4 or 5pm? Because my flight departs at 4:40 pm😅
Yay, bed rot without the guilt.

Are you okay?
People can make hilarious jokes and still be okay
You better thank him for no hurricanes this past season!
The Post, I don’t believe it.
