• Sounds like Adams trying to leave a time bomb for mamdani

Not just Adams, it's a well known secret for ages that city does not pay it's bills on time.

You have to be effing mad to get into bed with city government or have deep pockets because NYC does *NOT* pay remotely on time. We're talking not weeks or months late but often a year or longer.

This affects all sorts from non-profits to housing assistance (vouchers) and more.

Landlords for instance flat out refuse vouchers because they themselves had had fingers burned or know of others who have.

Tenant pays or paid their share of rent, but city fails to cut checks for months or longer. Sometimes only way to get city to pay up is begin eviction proceedings for nonpayment.

20 million is not really a time bomb it's pennies in the 100 billion dollar city budget.

If it isn’t paid and payroll isn’t made because things were left a mess, and then a lot of people leave their jobs that provide an essential service to many New Yorkers, it is. It’s less the dollars than the human cost

Well its a good thing (as CFO said) they can make payroll until the end of January which gives Mamdami a month to figure things out.

  • This isn't even a lot of money what the fuck is going on?!

I'm guessing it's purposeful negligence as they oppose the city's own attorneys, NYPD, and also the businesses that have ins with the politicians. Kind of keeping to the letter of the law but purposely sabotaging it.

  • Oh for fucks sake.

  • City is a joke

  • Why are the taxpayers footing the bill for this in the first place?

    What

You know that poor people have a right to legal counsel, right? Do you think the lawyers doing this work are volunteers?

The unpaid work includes services tied to city programs aimed at protecting residents facing eviction, immigration difficulties, landlord harassment, and deportation.

There's no right for legal counsel for any of these. This isn't the public defenders office we're talking about

For people facing eviction there is.

I'm not taking a side here but according to the link this is way more than just evictions

You've got a heart of gold

Talk to anyone who works in housing or some other civil courts, "right to counsel" offices are packed and don't have enough staff or other resources. People are routinely sent to Legal Aid in hopes they will help.

Thank you. They have represented many dangerous people who don’t give a crap about people around and continue to game the system because of bail reform.

The whole apple spoiling the bunch argument is stupid. The same thing can be said about everything while disregarding the people that do get help from it. If anything the City is going to have to start legalizing and taxing to bring revenue in.

  • Thank god Adams will be gone soon.

Thank God Mamdani is going to fix it. Can’t wait to see how much everyone’s rent goes down!
