Btw Op, check out va laws on dashcams before you buy one. It seems like the law says we cannot stick them on the windshield and people have been told to correct it while getting state inspections. Although some people don't interpret the law that way and continue to have it on the windshield.
Nobody should wait until it nearly happened to them to get a dashcam. If you or your loved ones don't have one in their cars, get it for them yesterday!
On the fence still. My question is: in the long run, is it more likely that operating my own front and rear dash cam will work more for me or more against me? I realize we cannot predict events and outcomes but, will my dashcam be used as evidence against me more often than it will be used by me in a court of law? Or will it invite car break ins which will damage my car? Or will it save me from false allegations by someone who was in the wrong in traffic? But won't there be other witnesses and cameras to prevent such a scenario? Or won't the cops just shrug and say, "call your insurance company?" And no one wants my video or if they do, they still don't look at it unless to raise my premiums because I was driving too fast o they could not hear my directional blinker in my dash cam video.
This is why I am on the fence regarding getting one.
Next vehicle upgrade, I'll definitely look at the Viofo at time of purchase.
I did purchase something over the summer for the front as a rear would be ineffective when I'm towing my travel trailer.
It goes without saying that 90 percent of drivers in the entire area did their behind the wheel trailing at "Zippy The Pinhead's Driving School of Dumb-Phuckery" with the top three being (in no ranked order) ...
Left lane cruising/hogging
Decelerating in an acceleration lane.
Lane jumping without bothering to see the driver you cut off, and perhaps five feet behind you, was clearly going faster by some 15-20 mph as well as pulling some additional weight (18-wheeler, camper, etc,)
Would spend stupid money on a dashcam but sadly base security said I gotta fully take it down every time I go on base, which is every work day, turning it off isn’t enough. they really need to get with the time.
Which base? My wife goes onto Ft Belvoir all the time and she has a dash cam. She’s a civilian now though, so not sure if it’s a stipulation for folks who are active.
Might depend if you're going to secret squirrel side of the base. I haven't had an issue with any base in the area. Though I don't do secret squirrel stuff.
Go to the subreddit for your vehicle and search dashcams. For example, most Toyotas have a Dongar power extension that makes an installation 2 minutes.
What is it about having a dash cam? They don’t prevent other drivers from doing stoopid stuff. All they do is create social media videos of bad driving. What am I missing?
This. Without them, it is much harder to prove that when you hit them from behind it was actually their fault instead of you failing to yield, following too closely, etc.
Yeah, that's why the dashcam is so helpful. If you are at fault, you are at fault. If someone unsafely cuts into your lane and causes the accident, you'll have proof that it wasn't you driving like a jackass.
Not sure if you’re just joking, but if not, spend the extra 10 dollars on the Viofo A119 V3
The sticker part I was the dash cam I wasn’t that was my genuine last straw
Will look into it I appreciate it 🤝

lol what in tarnation, to hell with whatever law you are referring to.
10 years of VA inspections on 2 cars with dashcams and have never had an issue

It’s always an MD plate lol.
As New York transplant, I agree. I can’t wait to GTFO of this damn state.

That's what everyone without a dashcam says, then they're on here asking if anyone has dashcam footage at x intersection at y time.

What do they do about cars that have them built in?
Nothing, they probably don’t even know, though I’m not sure of many cars that have true dash cams running all the time built in
I think it's more common for electric cars. I think Teslas come with them, you just have to stick in a usb
A lot of newer car models are including them.
The new RAV4 coming out next year for example has one…and we know that those are everywhere.

Ahhh good point. Yeah my wife just goes for dr appointments, so doubt she is having to go to the secret areas.
Fort Belvoir?

It’s for insurance… that really why most people get them.
