We have been there the last two years and it’s nice/okay. For this year we watched a YouTuber that wanted to be “cool” or similar and filmed him getting like 3 things. Cool drink, and two different items to eat. The bill came out to $80+.
Yeah, I rarely get anything to eat or drink there, except for the mini donuts they used to have. There are too many other places to eat outside the market anyway where you can actually sit.
Dyker heights is worth visiting once, we just strolled around and looked at the cool houses but the markets pop up all over the place near downtown brooklyn there were at least 3 good ones. One was at the mall on Fulton City Point. There was a nice one at this art warehouse near Smith Street in Cobble hill, one at Saint Pauls Roman Catholic, Industry City had a ton of cool vendors too but you kinda gotta search for them throughout the area
We went last year and were underwhelmed . And we had to pay to go inside the tent with additional vendors, and then wait in a huge line to go into the Kathe Wohlfahrt section.
No. At the moment he’s just on anti-nausea meds. On Wednesday his stomach was full, but it wasn’t seeming to move. Which made no sense because ate nothing on Tuesday, really. We thought it might be full of plastic or something. We did an endoscopy and it was full of food and one tiny piece of plastic. Still no appetite. On Thursday morning he ate a small amount of food very happily. Then stopped again. We took him for X-rays again, his stomach was empty more or less and his colon filled up, which confirmed his digestive system is moving. But still no appetite last night, and this morning only ate maybe a tablespoon or two of food.
Blood test panel was normal. Kidneys fine, pancreas fine, liver fine, etc.. He’s drinking, pooping, peeing fine.
Was he just stressed out over a vet visit he had the previous Saturday? Then the nausea from the endoscopy made him lose appetite again? If that’s true he should have eaten this morning. If he doesn’t eat tonight I don’t even know what I’ll do.
I’ve been going to my personal mixed practice vet, and LUV. I’m at home now and he’s very, very slowly making his way through some wet food mixed with chicken liver bits. Time will tell. He needs to poop by tomorrow afternoon and eat a bit more in that time to avoid another vet visit.
Continuing to recover from flu a, b, and Covid that my daycare-aged kids decided to give me all at the same time.
On a positive note the vaccines work. One kid wasn’t even sick for 24 hours and the other has seemingly avoided it. I’ve just had a bit of fatigue and a stuffy nose.
But seriously, y’all. Wash your hands. About half their classes have been out this week with the bugs so they are going around hard.
Excitedly awaiting the arrival of our first grandbaby. She's not in labor yet, but is full term. So, any moment. OMG you guys, I'm so damn excited I can barely stand it!
Christmas decorating and shopping to distract us in the meanwhile.
Congratulations,
Here’s a list- get a 529 education plan & trust started for the grandbaby. Suggestion for a period of time Mighty Meals subscription, maid service or baby helper to help with the mom.
I’ll be there! I met one of you guys in American Television at the Catbite show a few months ago and was bummed I couldn’t make the Jammin Java album release party. Happy to have a mulligan.
Remember, friend, you control your time. It's just sometimes it doesn't feel like you do.
Block out your calendar in January every work day from 12:30 to 1:15 or something like that. Then use that time to sit and eat. When someone interrupts your lunch, tell them you're eating and you'll help them shortly. When someone asks for help during that time slot, tell them no.
Most people don't like confrontation, so they will start respecting your lunch when you show them they have no choice.
Might pick up a sourdough starter since I murdered my current one. Plus a Christmas market at Mosaic. Might get to actually donating some clothes as well!
It's Star Wars this Sunday, and the DM apparently has Something Big Planned for each of our characters. I'm excited and nervous!
Also, after making cookies and the local ABC shenanigans I was inspired to make a holiday drunk raccoon, which I hope (cripes) to finish up today and do foil tests on, put it up on my etsy.
First time hosting a board game night with friends at my place tomorrow, then heading up to Pennsylvania for an archery competition on Sunday (barring any snow shenanigans).
I was at the tree lot two days ago where wreathes started at $25 and went up from there. a $17 wreath does not seem like a scam. And I’ve read charity navigator.
But mostly, recovering from a nasty cold I picked up while traveling to NYC. There's some tabletop gaming in there as well, so I hope everyone is ready to be underwhelmed by my performance.
I got super sick at the start of November. Glad I got it over with before Christmas. Next year getting my shots I was dying for like two weeks. I jsut hope I don’t catch anything else now
Just got back from Disney Christmas early VACA. So may lay low, if I’m feeling froggy, probably Lost Barrel Brewery in Middleburg, or may have growlers filled with Holiday Cider at Cobler Mountain.
Off to Richmond, to drop off some homemade cookies and hangout with friends down there.
We're having lunch at Perlys, seeing the holiday lights at Lewis Ginter botanical garden, & then seeing the Red Vein Haunted Christmas (Halloween adjacent) trail.
I’d say more successful than not, but you have to be cool and not linger. Small talk, feel out the vibe, ask if they’re feeling adventurous or whatever, then go from there. If it’s a no, politely thank them for their time and walk away.
Wife is working this weekend, mom is in town, probably let my mom watch my daughter for a few hours and go take myself on a little man date.
Gym, gun range, a beer somewhere while I listen to an audiobook or make a conversation with a random patron at wherever I am.
Giving blood, getting a haircut so my undercut is looking good for christmas, getting a pedicure with a friend then on sunday seeing Wicked after brunch with my partner. At some point I need to do laundry/meal prep/clean/etc. Ugh
Tomorrow playing in a Go tournament at the National Go Center, then gonna head back home and maybe grab drinks at B-Side. Rest of the weekend will be dedicated to Red Dead Redemption 2 and writing.
White elephant party with friends Saturday night and other than that, spending every waking moment baking cookies and treats for my holiday cookie boxes! Love a marathon baking session
Making five different fudges, maybe some cookies, and hoping to get my holiday care packages ready to send out early next week. I'm not going to risk weather in traveling to see the family until late January. Traveling 300 miles with food and gifts in snow, fog, frozen rain and ice, be it here, there and anywhere on the way is not something I'm up for this year.
Trying my hand at a white turkey chili for the first time. I made a batch of beef chili two weeks ago and froze most of it; I want to stock the freezer for Jan/Feb when it's cold and dark and I just want to go to bed after work.
Working Saturday, Sunday seeing Water for Elephants (Broadway musical) in DC. Possibly gonna go do Zoolights after but it's going to depend on how cold it is.
Watching the Army Navy game, recovering from working 100 hrs this past two weeks (sleep wise), and hoping one of my best friends is coming back to NoVA this weekend as planned so I can go to a shooting range with her
Going up to Baltimore to check out what I've heard is a better Christmas market than the ones near here.
Please post an update because this one was tiny and underwhelming
https://dcholidaymarket.net/
https://www.downtowndc.org/holiday-market/ is a better one at at least twice as large
Same, went a few years ago and it was underwhelming
We have been there the last two years and it’s nice/okay. For this year we watched a YouTuber that wanted to be “cool” or similar and filmed him getting like 3 things. Cool drink, and two different items to eat. The bill came out to $80+.
After watching that, we decided not to visit.
Yeah, I rarely get anything to eat or drink there, except for the mini donuts they used to have. There are too many other places to eat outside the market anyway where you can actually sit.
Yeah the one I posted above we bought 2 warm nuts snacks and it was like $18. Insane and it asked if I wanted to tip.
The ones in DC, and a lot of the NOVA ones, are just north of a scam. But I have been to many Xmas markets in Germany, so I’m biased.
I miss the Brooklyn Christmas Markets, was looking forward to check out some NOVA ones
Where were the Brooklyn ones? I've never been lol. Spend 10 years saying I'll go to Dyker Heights. Never been. 😂
Let me know how it is/goes!
Would also like an update on the market! Been thinking of going
We went last year and were underwhelmed . And we had to pay to go inside the tent with additional vendors, and then wait in a huge line to go into the Kathe Wohlfahrt section.
It's a great market! The Kathe Wohlfahrt store in the tent is worth a visit for German christmas decor and nutcrackers.
which one??
Probably the German Market it’s right downtown and highly recommended.
Good luck, army navy game is there this weekend
How did you like it? I was underwhelmed compared to the one in penn quarter. The mini donuts were great tho
Obsessively monitoring my cat who lost his appetite on Tuesday. He’s eating only tiny amounts each day. Been to the vet 3 times so far.
Wishing you good luck this weekend and sending all the love to the kitty. It's a tough spot to be in, really hoping all turns out okay.
Thanks. The most exhausting thing is still not having any idea what’s wrong. Every test comes back negative. I’ve spent so much on this so far.
I get that, we went through it last spring. If you need to vent or chat send a message. Wishing you well.
Did they give you an appetite stimulant? That and gabapentin helped my cat.
Try some chicken livers or some tuna in water. Extra smelly can boost the appetite. Wishing you well, went thru this a cpl weeks ago myself.
Are you going to a mixed practice vet or a cat specialist? I’ve always gotten way better care going to a cats only vet.
I hope you figure out what’s wrong.
Oh no. I hope he’s ok.
i hope he's okay!! could u pls give updates if ur comfy w that?
Continuing to recover from flu a, b, and Covid that my daycare-aged kids decided to give me all at the same time.
On a positive note the vaccines work. One kid wasn’t even sick for 24 hours and the other has seemingly avoided it. I’ve just had a bit of fatigue and a stuffy nose.

Christmas decorating and shopping to distract us in the meanwhile.
Aw! Pre congratulations! Christmas/Holidays with a new born is exciting.
Congratulations, Here’s a list- get a 529 education plan & trust started for the grandbaby. Suggestion for a period of time Mighty Meals subscription, maid service or baby helper to help with the mom.
This is a quiet weekend for me. I’m trying to get my apartment organized because my landlord might not let me renew my lease. :(
Oh no! I hope you can figure it out, and it's not too stressful.
Playing a show at The Vault in Tysons tonight! Old town Fairfax Christmas market tomorrow!
You playing that show with Kill Lincoln?
What do you play?
I’ll be there! I met one of you guys in American Television at the Catbite show a few months ago and was bummed I couldn’t make the Jammin Java album release party. Happy to have a mulligan.
How much are tickets at the door?
Disassociating. I'm fully burned out. Anyone need an office manager? Being salaried sounded great until I stopped being able to take lunches.
Best of luck!
Excellent advice normally, it doesn't apply so easily to my predicament unfortunately.
keep fighting the good fight
Might pick up a sourdough starter since I murdered my current one. Plus a Christmas market at Mosaic. Might get to actually donating some clothes as well!
Where do you acquire sourdough starter?
King Arthur pop up shop has some. Most folks who have one may be willing to split some off too.
Long miserable run, doom scrolling, watch a movie, take a nap and reflect on the fact I have no life.
Are you training for a marathon?
No, just divorced three times.
Would you try marriage again?
No. I'm emotionally, mentally and financially drained. The only good thing is I have good knees and I can run far.
Run Forrest! Run!
Not necessarily great for a run, but check out Leesylvania state Park and the trails there. So amazing views there!
Thanks for the tip!
The Shining at IMAX
Omg is it only in select locations?
Where??
It's Star Wars this Sunday, and the DM apparently has Something Big Planned for each of our characters. I'm excited and nervous!
Also, after making cookies and the local ABC shenanigans I was inspired to make a holiday drunk raccoon, which I hope (cripes) to finish up today and do foil tests on, put it up on my etsy.
Keep us posted!
Will do! I'm happy to have finally had a good idea to make something based on where I live, especially with a theme in my wheelhouse (booze).
Finishing Xmas shopping. Trying to keep depression at bay. Hopefully exercise. Hang with dogs.
My besties bday party! So excited 💜
Holiday decorating - yeah we are behind. Hannukah starts on Monday (I think), so we gotta get on it.
Hiding from snow.
I really enjoy these posts, thank you for submitting them weekly!
Enjoy your weekend, spouse is planning my weekend 😂
Same! I read through the replies to get ideas on things to do
Got Saturday tickets for my partner and I to go see The Washington DC Revels.
They're performing up in Silver Spring this year, a little hike but the show always gets me in the Christmas mood.
Probably going to convince him to do the Bull Run Festival of Lights also.
packing for Disney!
Have fun!!
Pickleball w/ friends tomorrow and relax on Sunday. Trying my best to not spend anything.
First time hosting a board game night with friends at my place tomorrow, then heading up to Pennsylvania for an archery competition on Sunday (barring any snow shenanigans).
nutcracker
Where?
Wreathes across America, two different towns.
It's a shame that Wreathes Across America is a (borderline) scam. Nothing is sacred.
I was at the tree lot two days ago where wreathes started at $25 and went up from there. a $17 wreath does not seem like a scam. And I’ve read charity navigator.
Elaborate further??
It's a non-profit who's sole supplier is a for profit company. They just happen to be owned by the same people.
Interesting, thank you
"Just so happens"
I'll be at the Arlington one, glad to get it done before the snow and cold
Always my dream to do that one but it’s too much hiking.

Going to Seattle to sing a concert
Visit the gum wall if you make it over to pikes place! Lots of fun and super gross 😂😂😂
Off to Richmond, to drop off some homemade cookies and hangout with friends down there.

Might swing by Hardywood if time.
Seeing Water for Elephants at the National Theater .
Hosting my monthly Beatles Sing-Along. A couple (FREE) seats are still available! The Beatles Sing-Along - Let it Be
That’s so cool
Paying some women for foot pics in the grocery store
How successful are you with this? (If serious) 😂😂
I’d say more successful than not, but you have to be cool and not linger. Small talk, feel out the vibe, ask if they’re feeling adventurous or whatever, then go from there. If it’s a no, politely thank them for their time and walk away.
Interesting! Good luck and hopefully you find whatever you are looking for!
Thank you, I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
How much are you offering?
It varies per person, some just laugh and say keep the money.
Wife is working this weekend, mom is in town, probably let my mom watch my daughter for a few hours and go take myself on a little man date. Gym, gun range, a beer somewhere while I listen to an audiobook or make a conversation with a random patron at wherever I am.
Making my friend’s secret Santa gift and maybe a family dinner
Oil change Wrapping presents 10 commandments is playing in the mosaic Sleeping
Freezing, by all indications.
Too true.
I work every weekend, so primarily that
It’s supposed to snow overnight Saturday so staying home and of course running out to buy milk, eggs and toilet paper 🧻
It won’t snow. We all know that.
It’s eight hours of precipitation with freezing temperatures. I’m pretty sure we are getting snow.
Long overdue catch-up with friends. Ice skating with the little, learning to play a new instrument.
Running a 5k with my kid and maybe get around to throwing some xmas lights up... all my neighbors have nice decor... feeling guilty.
Making a big ass pot of chili and cornbread
Nothing better than cornbread in cold weather. Other than cornbread in summer.
Giving blood, getting a haircut so my undercut is looking good for christmas, getting a pedicure with a friend then on sunday seeing Wicked after brunch with my partner. At some point I need to do laundry/meal prep/clean/etc. Ugh
Being sad. Lol
Samsies
Well, I do that every day.
I mean same but you know we here hoping for 2026 to be better lol
Tomorrow playing in a Go tournament at the National Go Center, then gonna head back home and maybe grab drinks at B-Side. Rest of the weekend will be dedicated to Red Dead Redemption 2 and writing.
There's a Go center in town? I totally missed that, where is it?
Good luck in the tournament!

White elephant party with friends Saturday night and other than that, spending every waking moment baking cookies and treats for my holiday cookie boxes! Love a marathon baking session

My favorite thread of the week!

Buying a new faucet for the bathroom & looking 👀 lighting for the entryway
Watching DD perform in the Nutcracker on saturday. Sunday, I'm staying in my basement with the wood burning stove going.
Saturday afternoon: Going to the GMU game. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of our Final Four and raising a banner for Coach L.
Saturday evening: Going to John Cena's last match (found a ticket this week for under $230 total) 🥲🫡
I have at least 6 holiday markets/parties slated for Saturday and Sunday, but I’m so burned out that I might skip some or all of them.
There are so many things. My next week is packed.
Alexandria Christmas Market and per chance a foray into DC.
I’ve got chili to cook tomorrow.
Chili and football.
What kind?
Trying my hand at a white turkey chili for the first time. I made a batch of beef chili two weeks ago and froze most of it; I want to stock the freezer for Jan/Feb when it's cold and dark and I just want to go to bed after work.
I’ve never had turkey chili, but I am a big fan of white chili in general.
Gotta work Saturday for Amazon. Then the 3 days I'm not doing squat because everything is so pricey.
Working Saturday, Sunday seeing Water for Elephants (Broadway musical) in DC. Possibly gonna go do Zoolights after but it's going to depend on how cold it is.
Work xmas party and video games. Wife is doing a cookie exchange with her siblings on Sunday, so I will most likely be gaming.
I'm going backpacking and looking forward to freezing my face off!

T-minus 67 minutes. :)
Trying to stay warm, shopping online, maybe drag myself to spin class.

Going to the Phillips collection in Dupont Circle and then running off to a strange meeting with strange people
I’m going to a fuck & brunch tomorrow in nova
Wishing I'd gone to the grocery store Friday.
Now I gotta do it tonight, and I'm sure the pre-snow frenzy will be happening.
I need milk and toilet paper, I think I'm screwed.
Coming up with a topic that I can ask every. single. week. In the same sub so I can farm karma.
