The further you get from Texas, the more expensive gas gets. Roommate explained it as the pipeline and just further from that you get the more it costs to even get it there. It's almost $4 a gallon here in WA, and was just over $2 in FL when I lived there not long ago
Climate Commitment Act (CCA): Washington's cap-and-trade program, implemented in 2023, requires fuel suppliers to buy carbon emissions credits, the costs of which are passed on to consumers. This program alone has been estimated to add an extra 40 to 50 cents per gallon to the price of gas, significantly widening the price gap beyond just the state excise tax difference. Montana does not have a comparable statewide carbon program.
Kind of a neat trick by the state who can say "our gas tax isn't that much more than Montana" and technically be right.
Didn't know arizona was the same distance away as washington! But nah it's likely taxes and idk some deep state conspiracy to keep taking my paychecks.
Houston, and you’re right, that is cheap! I got about 50¢ off per gallon with discounts. Right now that station (cheapest I know of in my area) is sitting at $2.32/gallon without the discounts I conned out of them. I actually thought $2.32 was cheap lol
87 octane is actually about $2.30/gal around here currently, but Circle K is offering 40¢ off per gallon today, and I have a card for an additional 10¢.
I’m driving my grandma’s car while mine is in the shop, and mine takes 93 octane with a 20 gallon fuel capacity. Trust that I usually pay a LOT more 🫠
IDE like to add as a fellow Texas resident that I am not paying 1.82 for gas.. I paid 2.73 yesterday and recently the price has been around 2.30 - 2.80 in the DFW area.
Edit. Not calling op a liar, it’s likely just way more complicated than some people’s responses in regards to distance from Texas being the reason.
This does NOT belong in a not interesting subreddit… my jaw dropped and I contemplated uprooting my family and career to move wherever this is happening.
Went past a gas station along i-70 yesterday where gas was $2.20. And if that alone won't bring you to the Midwest, just wait until you see the house prices ;)
Fuel taxes range between 25% and 40% depending on the province. That of course is on top of the 15-20% federal and 5-15% income tax we pay. Assuming you live in Quebec and you earn 50k a year pre tax, by the time gas is in your tank around 50% of your pre tax income has gone solely to taxes. Downright criminal for something that’s just short of essential for most average people.
Fuck im jealous. Converting that price from gallons to litres is $0.481 then converting that from usd to Aud makes it $0.723 per litre. i paid the other day $1.795 per litre In USA terms thats $4.52 per gallon
Filled up for $2.93 in South Jersey, $2.95 at 3 other nearby gas stations. Didn’t look for anything cheaper that was close enough nearby, was on a quarter tank, and didn’t feel like doing that
2.57 Northern Indiana rn. It was 2.64 yesterday. 2.80 something the week prior. It is going down …. But I’m waiting for it to jump again. For now, I will keep topping off. Wish I could say something edgy like “fill my barrels” but holy shit I couldn’t get that out of the back of my truck ☠️ I don’t have friends who can come help, I don’t like to talk to people
i live quite far away from texas but its been really cheap herer cently too lol. its normally between 2.50-3.50 but it got down to like 2.09 last week and stayed adound that sincd
2.69 here in the Midwest and with fuel discounts most apps and stores have like .20-.25 cents off certain days without having to apply for their credit card. You can get fuel for like 2.50 which is great
You lucky bastard. I just left California to get away from the skyrocketing gas prices among other things and now here I am in central Nevada being told that the problems with gas in California are gonna affect us Oregon and Arizona too. You can run, but you can’t hide.
that's cheap, i'm used to french gas prices, that are huge, it's around 1.60, or 1.70 € per liter, all units converted, that's over 7$ per gallon, that's why some people (including me) use ethanol (around 3$ per gallon)
$3.99 today in California. But of course it's more expensive here because California mandates a special, cleaner-burning fuel blend. And the higher fuel taxes too.
It’s interesting that there’s a .60 difference between unleaded and plus. Where I live it’s almost always .20 between unleaded and plus, then another .20 between plus and super.
USD? Where?
Texas 🤠
The further you get from Texas, the more expensive gas gets. Roommate explained it as the pipeline and just further from that you get the more it costs to even get it there. It's almost $4 a gallon here in WA, and was just over $2 in FL when I lived there not long ago
I imagine taxes have a lot more to do with it than distance.
Where I live taxes are basically 60% of the cost of petrol
It only shows up as about 60 cents a gallon at the pump here in Oregon, but I’m guessing it’s been hit a few more times before it gets there.
It's about 20 cent difference in tax between WA and MT, and it's about $1 cheaper in MT
Kind of a neat trick by the state who can say "our gas tax isn't that much more than Montana" and technically be right.
Hidden taxes as “something something fee or initiative”. They’re all over the place here in OR too. Good luck getting any of them out.
Yea, but think about the political differences that change more and more the farther you get from the south. Those affect taxes significantly
It’s about 2.80 here in Montana. Lol
That’s about what is is in my area in Colorado
Around 3.20 in Idaho :(
$2.12 here in Kentucky.
Op said that the actual price is 50 cents more, $2.30, there was a promotion.
Didn't know arizona was the same distance away as washington! But nah it's likely taxes and idk some deep state conspiracy to keep taking my paychecks.
That's a constant brother
I got gas for ~$1.60 in Missouri today
Quit bitchen... 🤣 for us in cali its fuckin 5 bucks a gallon
I don't have a car, so I don't care, I just pay attention to the economy.
Then why did I pay $2.54 this morning in Minnesota?
It's $2.50 in New England so idk about that
Bro, 87 is 5.8, where I live.
I remember during covid gas peaked 9.4 dollars.
Where is that? That is super high you are getting gouged even if alaska or hawaii.
California
Yep, southern California resident and for the past couple of years at least gas has always been around $4.50-5.00 a gallon
What part of Texas? I’m in Fort Worth and thought the 2.14 gas was cheap
Houston, and you’re right, that is cheap! I got about 50¢ off per gallon with discounts. Right now that station (cheapest I know of in my area) is sitting at $2.32/gallon without the discounts I conned out of them. I actually thought $2.32 was cheap lol
2.98 in Ohio yesterday lol
I'm paying like $1.20 more on average 😭😭
87 octane is actually about $2.30/gal around here currently, but Circle K is offering 40¢ off per gallon today, and I have a card for an additional 10¢.
I’m driving my grandma’s car while mine is in the shop, and mine takes 93 octane with a 20 gallon fuel capacity. Trust that I usually pay a LOT more 🫠
Might wanna add those details to the top
I am in Dallas. I’m seeing $2.13 our cheapest and I thought that was decent. You must live in Houston.
The one place it should be more expensive so yall can drive less! Was it nice paying very little to fill up my mom's car? Yes!
Am I so mad that i35 construction is horrendous because texas will make a 36 lane highway instead of a train? Also yes.
I’m in Texas. That’s a dollar cheaper than my station. 😬
Lies, this is clearly Ireland.
Colors indicate Ireland.
IDE like to add as a fellow Texas resident that I am not paying 1.82 for gas.. I paid 2.73 yesterday and recently the price has been around 2.30 - 2.80 in the DFW area.

My dumbass thought this was in an Irish subreddit
🇮🇪
Barack Obama (the gas station)
You used context clues!
Pump looks Irish
a girl can dream
So the ethanol addition is whiskey, right?
It’s not me I tell ya
Would be much more expensive in Ireland!
So just like every American, it thinks its irish.
Imagine having your gas tank only have a 1L capacity
I meant to say per gallon :( I paid $17.10 to fill my 10 gal tank completely
That would cost $62 here in Sweden right now.
Then it would cost at most 48 cents
Price per gallon*
What’s that eurospeak 😤
Oklahoma?
Clearly it's Ireland 🇮🇪
Lowest I got here is $1.98
Why there a Irish flag on the pump
because we Texans have a great amount of Irish pride
Looks like Ireland to me
Cool. My health insurance is going up 2000%.
This does NOT belong in a not interesting subreddit… my jaw dropped and I contemplated uprooting my family and career to move wherever this is happening.
before you do anything rash, please note that I am deceiving you and only got it this low with a lot of discounts
Ohhhh okay, I’ll try the car around then.. lol
Have you considered driving electric? Not for everyone, but the money savings are like this in most parts of the US.
Actually, my next car is going to be electric. I already made up my mind on that a few months ago.
Trust me, it's in Texas, and you probably don't wanna live there unless you like republicanism, hurricanes, and deserts
Texas is way more than just that...
Went past a gas station along i-70 yesterday where gas was $2.20. And if that alone won't bring you to the Midwest, just wait until you see the house prices ;)
$0.48/L
Its $1.31/L or about $5/gallon here on the east coast of Canada. That's also considered cheap
Really? All that tar sand oil, and idk what other oil, and you guys do not even get a decent price?
They should tax at a poimt of scale and subsidize citizens at some point. At least prevent gouging to near 2x in mi not far from canada, 2.80.
Fuel taxes range between 25% and 40% depending on the province. That of course is on top of the 15-20% federal and 5-15% income tax we pay. That's insane. It hasn't been 48¢/L in Canada since the 80s.
Damn CAD$0.70/L that's a steal
Looks like Ireland
IRELAND!!!
OMG AMAZING NOW MY RENT IS LOWER!
In California, the taxes, fees, and environmental charges on a gallon of gas is around $1.20 by itself.
$1.89 tax in SoCal At $4.50/gal in Los Angeles County:
$1.24 = direct taxes (fed state local)
$0.65 = env. taxes (carbon cap & trade etc)
$2.62 = the gasoline itself
More in taxes than Texas pays in total. Insane.
This is notinteresting. Thank you
Look at the price of 89 on the right, it’s obviously been discounted with some kind of loyalty program or something similar.
it has been, but that’s how much 89 was with the discount too. It’s $2.92 without it.
Liar
Fuck im jealous. Converting that price from gallons to litres is $0.481 then converting that from usd to Aud makes it $0.723 per litre. i paid the other day $1.795 per litre In USA terms thats $4.52 per gallon
Ireland mentioned!!!!🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Hell yeah! I paid $4.65 in the bay area California today and wanted to kill my self at the pump

1.89 Denver today!
$2.23 at Costco in South Dakota!
The crazy thing to me is that gas is cheaper in the US than Russia rn.
I paid $1.75/gal the other day…but that was after a $1 per gallon discount bc I spent like $2k at the grocery store last month 😢
you win some, you lose some 🙂
Where? Our gas in the upper midwest here is around 2.80 last I checked.

Plug-in Hybrid here. I’ve filled my car up like 4 times since I got it (in June).
In Europe 95 is regular and is around 6.5/gallon.

You lucky bastard. I just left California to get away from the skyrocketing gas prices among other things and now here I am in central Nevada being told that the problems with gas in California are gonna affect us Oregon and Arizona too. You can run, but you can’t hide.

Rage bait.
Interesting. I live in Pa, and when I first started driving in 2019 it was $1.88, it has not been that low in my area since.
While this is certainly nice. Let's remember that this is an ANOMALY. The median price of gas is still higher now than it was this time last year
Wtf
Who only buys a single gallon of gas
Is that RON 87? Ive never seen it before. 95 is the lowest ive seen
In Alberta, we are accustomed to $1.80 per litre.
Good job I only have a 890 cc engine cause petrol £1.48 in the UK
Here in Europe, Finland its 2-2.2$ per LITER plus we also pay yearly road tax+inspections etc, fuck..
$3.99 today in California. But of course it's more expensive here because California mandates a special, cleaner-burning fuel blend. And the higher fuel taxes too.
