Same in Egypt with the sodas in glass bottles. You either stand there and drink it so you can return the bottle, or you pay to take the bottle with you.
A local farm where I live does this with milk/chocolate milk in glass bottles sold at a grocery store. They ask for their bottles back. If you bring it back, decently washed, they give you back a portion of what you paid for the product originally
Malaysia does this too, but not just for things that were originally in a bottle. They might scoop a beverage out of a larger container and put it in a bag with a straw.
And in the USA, soda dispensers are connected to bags of soda in the back. It tastes strange because it was just sucked through an unclean tube from a plastic bag that's been sitting in the sun for 4 hours.
When I was a wee nigglet, we used to have one of the guys on a bike wheeling behind them an ice chest, and hed sell snow cones. Me and the homies would ask for them in a bag, and cut one of the bottom tips and suck it out the bottom. Yes it was ghetto, but we were ghetto. And it was so good.
Fun fact: the aluminum cans are also soda in a plastic bag, it’s just surrounded by aluminum. Soda is acidic and would have eaten right through can without the internal plastic coating.
Also over time these liners degrade, or arent fully lined properly. So sometimes, if youre collecting sodas for some reason, the cans will likely eventually leak. If you collect the cans, drink all the liquid first.
(Felt like I should say this since I saw a lot of posts this year about people being surprised their multiple year old soda cans did this)
Soda is in fact acidic, but barely so. It does corrode metals when exposed to, but not aggressively. Also, even if the plastic coating was damaged or just gone, the aluminium would in no time form an oxide layer preventing further corrosion. Only under certain circumstances and long times would cola actually eat through aluminium.
They sell them like this because the seller has like a 3L bottle of soda and pours it into the bag, and it's cheaper than buying an individual can, win-win. You can just go buy a six pack if you want.
Not really, you just get an individual glass bottle poured into the bag, it is so you don't have to return the glass bottle to the seller, you get charged a fee if you don't return it
Story: so I was there for my grandmother’s birthday and we took like two cases of beer bottles to return to like a 711 to get two new cases for the party.
So what I’m trying to say is it’s kinda like rental thing.
I think most chain places like 711 don’t care about getting the bottles back but the small corner mom and pop ones do. Like I said in another comment, I think they gotta return them to their distributor to not pay the recycling fee
Because people don't return glass bottles even with deposits.
the store has to pay more because you can only buy filled bottles (without a fee) when you have the equivalent empty bottles.
it's cheaper for a small store to put them in a bag than a cup or occasionally lose a bottle.
Theoretically all canned soda is in a bag because all soda cans use a plastic lining on the inside to prevent the aluminum from leeching into the drink.
Mexican here, hitting 40. This shit was my childhood, they sold it like that outside my elementary school. It's been AGES since the last time I saw this
"Hey man. Can you hand me my bag of coke? I need a drink."
I have mixed emotions about this… 👃
I have all the emotions at once, and then no emotions at all about this. 👃
That must have been one hell of a ride!
But you thought we were riding to heaven (heaven)

They do it in some places in Mexico as well. Usually street vendors
When I was in South America, I bought coke in baggies all the time.
....uh, coke?
My grandpa sells fresh juice/fruit smoothies in Mexico, and always puts them in bags like this. Very nostalgic
And Asia!
Philippines too
In our traditional winery we had argument with young owner that say these days a fresh wine is to be sold in refill bags.
FFS you can do that with soap but with wine?!
Please would you like a bottle of wine sir?
Oh no please give me your best BAG if wine 😤
Franzia and other "Boxed" wine comes in a bag

South American stop signs do not say Alto, unique to C. America
I was born and raised in Argentina and I’ve never once in my life seen this. Just pointing it out.
For a second I thought it was in the Philippines
Same in Egypt with the sodas in glass bottles. You either stand there and drink it so you can return the bottle, or you pay to take the bottle with you.
Mmmm, waiting on a bus, sipping on a warm gaseosa from a bag

One one hand.. it's good to recycle the glass bottles.
On another hand, it's adding single use plastics. I imagine it's less plastic than a plastic bottle.. and still recyclable?
They do it here in Thailand as well, usually street vendors
I have never seen this in Ecuador.
I drank a soda like that in Guate. Told my new friends about bagged milk in Canada. That’s was good for a laugh. 😆
And in the USA, soda dispensers are connected to bags of soda in the back. It tastes strange because it was just sucked through an unclean tube from a plastic bag that's been sitting in the sun for 4 hours.
I’d be annoyed af
That’s very interesting tell me more.
You can buy bagged drinks all over Thailand too
Southeast Asia does this as well
Addendum: The sari-sari stores here in the philippines also do this too.
we do this in west africa too
When I was a wee nigglet, we used to have one of the guys on a bike wheeling behind them an ice chest, and hed sell snow cones. Me and the homies would ask for them in a bag, and cut one of the bottom tips and suck it out the bottom. Yes it was ghetto, but we were ghetto. And it was so good.
lmfao when you were a WHAT
My mom called us nigglets lol
Please tell me you are mixed with a white mom
Black mom
Can confirm
I'm so white, my friends lose me in the toilet paper aisle at the store. Was still called that by my buddies mom when she called us out as a group.
https://youtube.com/shorts/C1P3P15qMWk?si=N1juOwas880rJMgj
Classic Donald Glover bit
that would be an insane thing for a white woman to call her children
My mom called us that and I hated it. We haven't spoken in 5 years
I had a white boss who referred to her 7 mixed kids the same way 😂. I was too stunned to speak the first time I heard her say it.
That's a real thing? I had a friend who used that term, I thought he was bullshitting me and made it up on the spot.
You didn't go on any racist field trips did you by any chance?

That opener gave me whiplash
Im dead. Take the up vote. Lol

I totally read this in the voice of the “FUN FACT” guy.
yess

Some people love cans cause they don’t like the plastic taste of bottles. I love telling them it’s all plastic
Reminds me of why I don't drink soda anymore...
We’re just walking bags of acid.
Reminds me of why I sold my stomach a while back...
I’d like a refund
Reminds me of why I got rid of my money years ago...
Is that why I (soda drinking male) can piss away any hard stains in the toilet bowl but my friend who only drinks water cannot?
LMAO 😂😂😂😂
I saw that a while ago on YT. I was basically looking for your comment 😁👌
This is also why you're not supposed to cook in used cans

It wouldn't eat through the aluminum. 🙄 It'd just have a metallic/aluminum taste.
STO .....
ALTO
No im good, thank you.
Bless you.
Bite a hole in the corner. Fresh soda straight from the tiddy
imagine if babies had to bite a hole in the nipple to feed
Classy.
I learned to live with milk in a bag, but I draw the line at soda in a bag.
100% latinoamericano
10c deposit for a can/bottle.. 20c environmental fee for a plastic bag.
$1 fee for actually accepting soda in a bag.
American Defaultism
What if you want a six pack, six bags of beer I guess??
A trash bag.
They sell them like this because the seller has like a 3L bottle of soda and pours it into the bag, and it's cheaper than buying an individual can, win-win. You can just go buy a six pack if you want.

??? I thought it was a bracelet?
Because people don't return glass bottles even with deposits.

Thank you I’ve been waiting for someone to actually reply since forever!
NGL soda in a bag hits different iykyk
hola
Lmaooo I haven’t seen that in yearrrrs. You unlocked so many memories. Good times!
You can you can buy coke in a bag where I’m from. they come in dime bags and it’s usually white and powdery and not in the form of a liquid.
This was so popular back in the day...... They had to keep the glass bottles to return them to the distributors
It was like that in Iran as well.
the sequel to milk in a bag
A bag of soda would pair well with a bag of spaghetti
This is why I quit my job at the bottling plant.
It was soda pressing.
God this is the superior coca cola taste
Here in Mexico we do the same! childhood memories activated
Theoretically all canned soda is in a bag because all soda cans use a plastic lining on the inside to prevent the aluminum from leeching into the drink.
That’s really cool!
I prefer mine in a cup or bottle!
Bag of coke anyone?
I want one
Caprisun
Clever but difficult to manage. How would you usually get the liquid out?
Put a little square of duct tape on the bag somewhere and stab the straw through that so it doesn't rip the bag too much? Just an idea 🤷♀️
!thanks
Poke a hole. Drink from the utter
That’s very Philippines

Yo dude. Is that a bag of coke?
Mexican here, hitting 40. This shit was my childhood, they sold it like that outside my elementary school. It's been AGES since the last time I saw this
This is the type of unhinged shit I’m here for, hell yea brother.
Yo no soy refresco en bolsa pero sí me veo aceptando el popote
Idk why but this feels Canadian 🤔

Doesn’t it go flat super quick like this?
❌ Bag of chips ✅ Bag of Coke (soda)

I wish there was a little gummy fish swimming around in it
Some Mexican shit
In Nigeria they sell water in a bag as well!
Evil Canada:
To
That’s the Canadian way!
I just saw a post with iced coffee in a bag too
Soda in a bag is a different feeling, remember when in Karachi after school I'd sip on some ice cold cola and munching on chips. Nice memories.
What about bad on a soda
Where I am from This used to be pretty common,I don't think they stopped it but don't see them often anymore
