I wasn't a fan, It looked like some glued 1970s TV tray tables to the side of a car lol. But I guess out of all the packages the pt cruiser had it wasn't the worst thing.
An old coworker of mine had one all done up with flames and shit and little skulls inside like on the gear shift. Only time I thought one of these looked kinda cool
I remember the auto show at the Georgia world Congress center when they were announcing this car. The swag bag had a huge fold out poster of a purple PT Cruiser. I hated it.
God, starting to feel a smidge old lol. I got an RC version of one of these on Christmas the year they first came out. We lived super rural at the time, so I'd never seen one.
My mom loved how it looked, so she bought it for me. My dad was in tears laughing while trying to record us opening presents cause the first thing out of my mouth when I pulled off the wrapping paper was, "It's horrible, this isn't real." and I refused to believe they were a real car until my aunt actually bought one with a custom paint job done.
It was electric blue pearl paint with orange stripes on the rear side panels and holy fuck did that help accentuate just how ugly it was.
There's still one in my neighborhood, one of the pre -facelift ones too. My Dad had one he bought in 07 and it had 350k on it when it got sent to the scrapper. Ran fine but was pretty rusty by then.
The PT Cruiser was probably the most successful American car in Europe, until a few years ago they were everywhere (most with a diesel engine you Americans never got).
They kinda had an odd shape and seat height that made it easy for those in wheelchairs to slide into at least that’s what the guy that bought my dad’s said. He always said it reminded him of those old mafia cars from older movies.
An old roommate of mine had one. At one point while we were in the process of moving in together, he and another friend went back to his old place to get some more things while I stayed at the new place and unpacked. They called me when to tell me they were headed back and when I asked what they were bringing back, they said the refrigerator. I thought there was no way his refrigerator was fitting in his PT cruiser but my mind was on unpacking so I just shrugged it off thinking they were joking.
When they arrived, my eyes could not believe it. I have retained the vivid memory of watching them pull the refrigerator out the back, observing the contrast between the size of the refrigerator and PT cruiser. It looked unnatural. Even seeing it in front of me, I could not believe it. I still don't believe it. But it was real. The refrigerator was real. The PT cruiser was real. And the thousands of dollars he left me on the hook for when he skipped town was also real.
My spouse had one before we met, and loved it because it was ugly-cute. But sold it for like 500 dollars in the 20-teens because everything was falling apart.
I have a non running 2002 in the driveway, I knew it was coming up on being an antique. Body still in good shape. It was a really comfortable car on long trips
there was an awesome askreddit thread years ago along the lines of "chrysler pt cruiser owners, how did you become burdened with your unfortunate vehicle?"
I mean, if it’s still running at this point it deserves some kind of title. The engines on the 2.4 turbo were legit though. Same as the SRT-4 but no lsd maybe?
I was working for enterprise Rent-A-Car when these first came out. The first few years, they were classified as a premium vehicle. People paid top dollar to get these cars. A few years later, different story.
I had a 2005 and it lasted 4 years. It’s actually my only former car that I kinda miss a little. Yes, it was woefully underpowered, but it felt more “four-on-the-floor” than most cars I’ve driven; I could take curvy roads and freeway interchanges without feeling like the car would tip over to one side. And if one took out the back seat, it made for a nice “panel van”; I was able to haul around some widescreen TV sets for my friends with the car. I was also seated upright and not reclined like in most cars.
And yeah, it’s no beaut, but as someone who liked “Batman: The Animated Series,” I felt that it was a nice combo of retro looks and the modern. I would also say that there were a number of other car models I would consider as worse looking, like the Aztek or the HHR.
My mother bought one and proceeded to put a professional $3k air brushed and pin stripe flame job on it. Actually lowered the value lol.
My favorite were the ones that had the "wood grain" side panels on them lol.
My neighbor had one like that when I was a kid and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
I wasn't a fan, It looked like some glued 1970s TV tray tables to the side of a car lol. But I guess out of all the packages the pt cruiser had it wasn't the worst thing.
My old man swore by pinstriping. I never understood it.
Pinstriping will never not be cool, I don’t care what car it’s on.
Also, we need to bring back airbrushing wizards on vans.
Adds 5 horsepower

I'd argue that the Pontiac Aztek was uglier
Good car though if you’re a former high school teacher with lung cancer running a major meth empire but don’t want to draw attention to yourself
How do we show that Walter White is a loser?
Solution: Make him drive a Pontiac Aztek
Nissan Cube gets my vote for ugliest.
It had great visibility, though
My buddy in highschool had an aztek. Loved that car.
This might be the ugliest car I’ve ever seen…wow

I graduated high school in 05, and it dawned on me the other day that what 05 is today was 85 in 05. I hate it.
'Cause she's still preoccupied With 2000 ... 2000 ... 2005. 🎶
I remember some ppl calling it " PT Loser ".
...unfortunately, they all broke years ago. Worst car I ever had. My mechanic still takes the piss out of me for that and it was years ago.
There's still one in my neighborhood, one of the pre -facelift ones too. My Dad had one he bought in 07 and it had 350k on it when it got sent to the scrapper. Ran fine but was pretty rusty by then.
From my experience these are actually one of Chrysler's more reliable cars, I still see them around all the time where I live.
I remember the first time I saw one; it was in a featured article in “Parade” magazine (which came included in the Sunday newspaper).
I was in love and begged my folks to put a deposit on one (they did not) haha
Easily one of the ugliest cars ever made. The early 2000s really has some of the worst design trends since the malaise era.
Fun fact, the guy who designed the PT Cruiser also designed the Chevy HHR.
Chevy execs: “We want something like this, but boxier.”
“You know a 1950 Chevy Panel Van? Great, you know the PT Cruiser too? Awesome! We want to you mash those two together”
I actually do like HHR’s though, they can look good with the right options
The PT Cruiser was probably the most successful American car in Europe, until a few years ago they were everywhere (most with a diesel engine you Americans never got).
I actually liked it
I knew someone from Brazil that absolutely loved them. They thought it was the coolest thing because it reminded them of 1930s mobster cars.
I genuinely don't get the hate. I think they looked pretty good.
Most people agreed with you, as there were a few years there where PT Cruisers were everywhere. I still see them on occasion
In my state of Connecticut, all cars built 2006 and older get classic plates
The rust eats up most of these cars, but from MA and when I’m in CT I notice these on cars like the Accord and it makes me smile
It is sure especialty ugly!
In my hometown we had a local with one of these with flame decals on the side of it
These were released right before my senior year in high school and I wanted one so BAD. Had ideas to add flames on the side 😂😂

The original name was better, the Pronto Cruiser
These things were EVERYWHERE! But in typical Chrysler fashion they started dropping like flies circa 2012. I haven't seen one in years.
My spouse had one before we met, and loved it because it was ugly-cute. But sold it for like 500 dollars in the 20-teens because everything was falling apart.

I had one and enjoyed it. It was comfortable to drive and pretty roomy. I moved a whole apartment (minus the couch) with it.

About time! Does this mean we can send them all off to other countries?
lol
Had the turbo - purple !!
“Antique, Vintage, Classic Car?" Since when was the PT cruiser any of those?!
I mean, if it’s still running at this point it deserves some kind of title. The engines on the 2.4 turbo were legit though. Same as the SRT-4 but no lsd maybe?
On the plus, they did make a GT cruiser which came with the slightly modified 2.4L turbo that came in the srt-4 neon, mated to a 5 speed transmission
Pet hearse
What a piece. Also reminded me of the Plymouth Prowler. Yikes.

The PT loser
All three of them that are left?
[deleted]
I had an 09 spectra, crank windows, manual locks. Looking back it was such a piece of shit and I was happy when the engine exploded at 110,000 miles.
Is there a “Turd with wheels” specialty plate?
Let's not forget this was Chrysler/Plymouth's way of making the Plymouth Prowler more affordable. This also made it ugly, though.
