I started listening via Spotify back in 2021. I've gone on and off with it but I got back into WTNV over the summer (still via Spotify) and noticed that there was now extra ads, mid episode, right after the weather. I was.....very angry...and that was the final push to get me to quit Spotify (something I'd been considering for months). I've been listening on apple Podcasts since then, but the mid-episode ad is still there. Today I found that all the episodes are on YouTube, without this post-weather ad. What gives? Anyone have any insight? It just yoinks me out of my sweet podcast world and into reality when the weather is followed by "THIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE..."

  • Your podcast player doesn't insert ads, though are put in by the WTNV team to earn money and pay cast/bills. From a pure dollar standpoint, midroll ads are worth a lot, so are start ads and end roll ads are basically nothing.

Idk why they decide not to insert into YouTube.

You can subscribe to their patreon, theyll provide an RSS reed with every episode with no ads.

Re: YouTube - I know you can make some minor edits post-upload but, at least as far as I understand, I don't think you can add new content to a video after upload.

But they can choose to add more YT ads after posting.

There were mid-roll ads on the YouTube uploads a few months ago but thankfully it seems they've turned them off. It was honestly impossible to listen to since YouTube automatically played ads every 5-ish minutes.

I hope the mid-roll ads are worth more than the listeners they're losing.

Seeing as it probably almost doubles revenue and there's no way they're losing half of listeners, it probably is.

If you like the show, but hate the ads, you can get it ad Free on their patreon

    Thank u for the insight!

  • I don’t like the ads, but I really like the podcast that they give me for free, so I’m not going to complain

  • I used to love the ads Cecil would read out but recently the quality has really dropped

I like hearing Joseph (I think).

I'm in a binge-listening pattern for NV, though, after a decade of following. Haven't kicked off this year's catch-up yet.

Bet the mid-episode ads will feel like a kick in the teeth.

  • I had to stop listening because the ads just pissed me off, they’re even in the earlier eps

    Back to TMA it is

  • Yeah, i stopped listening because of this. If it was only the new episodes, it would kinda suck but be understandable, but even on the old episodes?

  • Listening to the latest episode and the actually cut off halfway through a sentence near the end for an ad about their upcoming tour. This is getting insane.
