A quick google search said a snowblower can launch a rock at 100MPH. Catch the right rock and the puffer doesn’t matter. Or if it’s to the head…. Well, you dead.
He intentionally directed the snow at someone after an argument. It's basically assault with a deadly snowball. Non lethal, and hardly enough to claim injury. But still assault.
It can be hella dangerous if there was a piece of ice or rock in the snow. Ive seen a pinecone being shot out by a snow blower. It went a hell of a distance.
I'd say the charges are entirely justified.
Powder doesn't blow out, it hits the impellers and turns to a heavy, wet slush. It becomes like a blend of Sierra cement and spring corn. If you're not a snowsports enthusiast and those terms sound foreign, think in between a Slush Puppy and an Icee. If you're neither a snow sports enthusiast nor gas station frozen desert aficionado, let's just say it's really heavy and can have sharp icy bits.
Also keep in mind that most normal people aren't clearing an untouched driveway, there is a good chance what they are blowing has already has been driven over, meaning bigger ice chunks. Also rock salt, small stones, twigs, whatever can end up in there.
I have no idea what this guy was using for a blower, but based on location I'm gonna say he's not screwing around with a Maryland special single stage toy. Definitely a 2 stage. I have a pretty standard, maybe slightly heavy duty 2 stage Ariens. It can shoot snow a good 15-20 feet. It's coming out with some force.
TLDR: This is absolutely assault. Only a Texan or Floridian would discount the danger of what this dude did.
it takes powder and makes it mighty solid. have you ever tried to shovel the snow a snowblower has moved? its very dense and heavy, even if you were blowing powder/light snow. You do not want to stand in the discharge path, even if its just a light powder you are cutting in to. its worse if its chunks or a berm pushed up by a plow, which can have icy chunks in it.
For real though. If any of my neighbors called the cops over a snoot full of snow we would never let them live it down 🤣. I would def bring it up when we’re like 90 especially when the other neighbor got arrested. That would legit make the news in a huge way in my tiny town and no one would forget lmao. Holy hot tea. That would be on the town Facebook page for weeks and no one would shut up about it.
When the headline said assault using a snow blower I assumed they ran over or crashed into the victim with the machine. Intentionally blowing snow at someone is petty, but way less painful than what I was expecting.
That's pretty violent for Canada. I'd expect something like this to happen in Buffalo or Syracuse or even Burlington (VT, not ON), but never in the great white north. I mean how many times did he say soooory after the assault?
Canada is getting as bad as our neighbors to the south but then all the nonsense that happens here usually originates south of the border. At this point we're really just the unofficial 51st state anyhow with the way many Canadians act and behave. 😆😥
There appears to be a lot of assaults going on in Sault and there are even a few with weapons involved! One had a snow blower and the other had a shovel.
In other news, a man in a snowplough in Sault was actually threatened with a weapon, by a weapon! Our reporter rang a few of the local residents to ask their opinion, however he was given a frosty response from them all and told to shovel off!
This headline could be really really gruesome, or really really silly.
"before intentionally directing snow from a snow blower at them"
Depending of the density of snow, presence of ice or not and the power of the blower it still can have serious consequences.
Or kick up a rock. That would be brutal.

it’s one of those headlines where you’re not sure whether to laugh or cringe

Like throwing a sponge at someone.
Edit: no injury was reported.
Guessing you dont live where snow falls a lot. Those things will pick up ice and/or rocks and can absolutely cause injury if directed at someone
You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free.

Have you ever been hit with compacted snow out of a snowblower? That shit is dense, and can seriously hurt you.
That machine looks mighty industrial.
Is that shit like powder, or we talking solid chunks being spat out?
That's a stock photo. No reason to believe that's accurate to the one used in the incident.

Thanks, my question was more inquisitive rather than rubber stamping what machine was used. Snow blowers are foreign where I live.
The worst risk is that they can easily (and do) pick up rocks and the rocks can pick up a lot more momentum and maintain a lot more speed on the exit.

My black labs or huskies would call that having a fun time but sure stupid humans don’t know how to have a blast
Your dogs also enjoy licking their own anuses, so maybe they're not the best gauge to use.
I mean, some of us would if we could.
"Mr Plow" could be a kids comedy or a horror movie... ^(or porno)
[deleted]
Or an episode of "The Simpsons"
Mr. Plow!
Canadians being agro. The punishment: No poutine for you... my friend. Now shake hands.
Say sorry
SOAR-ee
There ya go. All better now.
Opened this link thinking this sounds like shit that would go down in my city, sure enough. Keeping it classy sault ste marie.
Honestly feels like peak Sault Ste. Marie energy. Not even surprised at this point
I laughed so hard when I seen the headline on cp24... was like yep sounds about right
This is such a Canadian crime
Whew... Yah... Glad no maple syrup was hurt in this shenanigans there
Maple syrup shot through leaf blower
Someone called the cops after they got snowed by the blower 😂
Wasn't there an arrest in the news earlier this year about spraying someone with a water hose? And I feel like it may have been someone semi-famous.
ETA: It was Tuco from Breaking Bad.
https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/breaking-bad-actor-raymond-cruz-arrested-allegedly-spraying-women-hose-rcna230047
You mean the delivery boy from Gremins 2: The New Batch?!
I missed that but I’d love to hear the tea 😂
Multiple women with a hose huh. Also he’s sixty? I’m surprised
FYI, prosecuters decided not to go ahead with charges. The 3 women accusing him were the ones that started it
good thing they didnt die, cause they would have died from shame....

Someone at the scene (probably): "This blows."
I don’t think this guy is in the right. But I get it.
I could have sworn Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon were dead.
When the headline said assault using a snow blower I assumed they ran over or crashed into the victim with the machine. Intentionally blowing snow at someone is petty, but way less painful than what I was expecting.
But with the potential for worse if the snowblower grabbed more than just snow - say a rock or chunk of ice
It can still be hella dangerous if there was a solid piece stuck in the snow.
Spraying someone with water can be classified as assault so I guess this makes sense
That's pretty violent for Canada. I'd expect something like this to happen in Buffalo or Syracuse or even Burlington (VT, not ON), but never in the great white north. I mean how many times did he say soooory after the assault?
Such a Canadian headline.
Ontario. The new Florida of Canada!
Worst case Ontario, you get snow down your collar.
Canada is getting as bad as our neighbors to the south but then all the nonsense that happens here usually originates south of the border. At this point we're really just the unofficial 51st state anyhow with the way many Canadians act and behave. 😆😥

Yeah, they really blew it
Christ, I hope my dog never calls the cops on me for this.
