Question for anyone in Bergen County. I use to deposit books I didn't want anymore into this large donation bin near a local supermarket. But it's no longer there. Is there any other place where I can take large stacks of books to be donated without actually throwing them out?
Little free libraries
Goodwill still takes books.
Bergen has several used bookstores. The Friends of the Louis Bay Loft helps fund the Hawthorne Library.
With any large donation I'd reach out in advance. If you have some that you consider gems point them out when you contact them.
Ridgewood recycling center had a large book bin last year

Not Bergen, but Lacordaire Academy in Montclair has a huge used book sale annually in May. They have a drop-off “Book Bunker” open now to receive donations for the next sale. https://www.lacordaireacademy.org/events/annual-book-sale
Emerson fire department
A library.
library worker here. call first. we only accept donations during our monthly book sale so we can sell them, and we only accept GOOD CONDITION materials. we dont want your moldy attic books from the 70s. if you try to bring us stuff on our non-sale days we will turn you away, and if you dump them in our book drop, they go straight to the dumpster.
some bookstores will take them if they are any good or have resale value.
If you have the time and would like to help a local library make some extra money, I suggest looking for one of the Better World Bins. Libraries get a kickback on books sold through the bins. There's one at the libraries in Hackensack, Cresskill, Montclair, and South Orange.
If you're looking to sell, there's a new used bookstore at the Paramus Park Mall called "Motif Books". 0 clue what their rates are but you can give em a call and see what they're looking for.
