I was just thinking how nice it was for the 4 year period I didn't need to check the news each day to make sure US policy hadn't dramatically changed overnight.
Spot on. There should not be major news coming from the White House every single day. It is exhausting just keeping up with everything happening, and that's before processing and internalizing all the bad news.
He wasn’t perfect by any means (sloppy economic policy, not hawkish enough on Russia, didn’t went harder on Trump getting arrested by all means, response to the Israeli actions in Gaza being utterly bad when compared to how hard he went on the Serbs in the 90s). But good lord if there’s a president that was just done dirty. Literally the best standard for what a politician should be.
You say this like he didn't do his best to make it worse for the first like 8 months in office. Handing out a second round of stimulus checks when the pandemic was already over and a bunch of other measures designed to subsidize demand.
He couldn't have stopped inflation altogether and Congress arguably deserves more blame than Biden, but recent economic analysis has shown that only like 60% of the inflation the US experienced was actually cost-push. The rest was demand-pull.
Biden got us back to full potential GDP despite it being the biggest global recession since the '08. I don't think people appreciate how rare a feat that is with the Great Recession causing a multi-trillion dollar GDP gap for years.
Inflation was coming for us anyway. Most of the developed world saw record inflation regardless of their fiscal policy. At least we had the type of nominal growth that stayed ahead of inflation for his entire term unlike other countries.
It is the most frustrating thing in the world that a president's policies generally do not have immediate impacts because it appears the only way for people to understand cause and effect is if it happens immediately.
Or it could be that the opioid crisis has run its course. Like the crack epidemic was so bad, so violent and so deadly that it kinda weeded out a lot of crack users.
They analyzed discussions on the social media platform Reddit. Users on this site frequently discuss the quality and availability of drugs in specific online communities or “subreddits.”
Hilarious because it's a publication in Science, one our the most difficult journals to publish in, and thus has passed far better scrutiny than you could muster.
This is basically as close as you get to 100% proven fact.
First, I was not disagreeing with you, just pointing out the irony. There was no need for the acrimonious response. Second, you might want to read the actual study instead of the write up on it. It’s far less clear on cause/effect. Don’t take it from me either:
The Science paper does not account for how overdose death rates fell in parts of the U.S. first, or how fatalities in more populous states can skew national statistics, said Nabarun Dasgupta, an epidemiologist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He said fentanyl habits have been changing as fewer people start using it, and many users are cutting back or no longer using alone.
“It’s not a straight line between drug supply and overdose deaths because of protective behaviors that have been adopted in between,” Dasgupta said.
The summit, however, happened months after overdose deaths had already begun to fall — a timing mismatch the researchers acknowledge.
The actual study also points to many other measures that were taken but it’s not clear which one was the main contributor.

Too bad, a bunch of kids who grew up in the 80s got divorced and decided the most obvious grifter in the country should be in charge.

I mean realistically what can the president do to tame inflation?

Better messaging for sure, as saying inflation has improved didn't matter to voters who saw that prices hadn't decreased back to pre covid levels
And yet, that inflation was the US getting off easy by world standards.

But we have Joe Rogan who can’t understand graphs out here saying it’s thanks to Trump blowing up the boats.
Yeah of course it’s going to be attributed to Trump.

Graphs are gay
It is almost comical how bad that man is at reading graphs. Like the climate change graph with Bernie Sanders

Thanks unflaired.
Gee, I wonder why your comment history is hidden.
If no one is paying you for your views then you're not an expert 🫤
Idk but your mom sure knows that I’m doing your dad every night yet she stays with him
Joe good. It’s not hard to grasp.

I will await your publication in Science and weigh it against this one then.

I think the crack users moved to other drugs and then there were public health approaches that helped. I don't think they were just weeded out.
The study’s pretty convincing
Look, this isn't as easy. Otherwise, countries with dysfunctional states would never have drug issues because "Oh wait, the drug addicts just died"
"Listen Empress Dowager, we solved the Opium addiction in China"
"Woah, how??"
"The addicts all died!"
"Hey Chiang"
"We solved the opium addiction issues"
"How?"
"The addicts all died!"
C’mon man! Drop the smack, jack!
I don’t get good vibes from PsyPost.
I miss Joe Biden
