Crows do the same , once saw a crow slam one for 3-4 minutes straight until it stopped moving. If the liz tried to escape the crow would just pull it back . Poor guy was doomed.

    That lizard owed him money

Man, if these things were 100x larger, they’d be apex predators.

    parent
    18 points Executioneer

The oxygen content of the atmosphere is limiting the growth of birds and insects. 300 million years ago dragonflies wingspan were 2 foot.

    parent root
    9 points RohelTheConqueror

They're already apex predators, but only in their own weight class

    parent root
    6 points GeppaN

Nature laughs at the concept of "weight class".

    Mustelids have entered the chat

While not 100x larger, the kingfisher's terrestrial brethren, the dusty colored kookaburra is pretty chonk. These jovial birdos do the same thing as their little blue bros but add snakes to the mix, and loud laughter.

Australian animals really do go all in

The amount of suffering that was taken place on this earth is unfathomable.

    parent

It's very uncommon to die comfortably in a bed surrounded by loved ones, we all just hope it's a quick painless death. If you're an animal your life is consumed by eating and not being eaten.

Kingfischer: Die, mfcker, die mfcker die!!!

    parent
  • 2 points whorton59

Geez, that bird should apply to be a police officer somewhere.

    parent
  • 1 points nlamber5

Now I understand how a bird would learn to spear its food on sticks.

I've seen roadrunners do this, it's brutal to the point where I believe they were doing it well past the point of death to make it easier to swallow.

    parent
  • 1 points bootsay

He was done before all of that.

  • 1 points idrwierd

    Specifically, an oriental garden lizard.

Saw some along the banks of the Ganges a few years ago

    parent
  • 1 points reformedginger

The tree killed the lizard not the bird. This way the bird eats with a clean conscience.

    parent
  • 0 points jabeith

That was fucking brutal - but is it really much worse than we do to a cow? Probably not - but we're a little more efficient with it at least
