A bird's skeleton is less dense, much less so for a chick and a woodpeckers bill delivers concussive trauma alongside with its penetration power. I don't see the chick really experiencing much of it consciously, you could compare it to a small wooden pickaxe. Maybe it takes 5-6 hits, but it would still be a relatively quick death.

Around here you need to fit metal around the openings for bird houses for smaller birds otherwise the woodpeckers will eat the babies or eggs. Same if the bird house is made of wood that is too thin, they'll bash their way through the side to eat some jay hatchlings
