Hi,

We live in German-speaking Switzerland and are looking for baby names that work well in both French and German.

Girls: Ella, Zoé, Chloé, Ela, Théa Boys: Théo, Gabriel

Do Ela or Théa sound like full names to you? And which of these feel the easiest to live with in a bilingual setting?

Thanks!

  • Girl: Thea

    Boy: Theo

  • Zélie could be cute! Ella and Thea are both lovely!

  • I know a lot of German/French bilingual families and live in a German speaking country. I would potentially avoid Chloe due to the German word "klo" (toilet), in the grand scheme of things probably not a big deal but I did meet a French boy named Clovis who moved to where we live and he was not very happy about his name because of this.

If popularity is a concern, Ella and Theo are extremely popular in German-speaking countries and regions at the moment. They're all quite nice names though. My favorites are Thea, Zoe and Gabriel.
