We have recently found out that we are expecting a little girl. My first language is French (French Canadian) and my partner’s is English (Scottish) we are hoping to raise her bilingual (in the UK at least for now) and so need a name that works well in both languages (no big difference in pronunciation). I prefer shorter names like Romy, Nora, and Lenna. My partner usually prefers 3 syllable names like Romilly, Marianne, Elliott, however also likes Sasha (I really like this for a boy). I am not a fan of names that could sound double barrelled so we are struggling. We are also trying to avoid Al as a starting sound as that will be the beginning of the middle name. Any suggestions?
Clara, Nadia, Valerie, Noelle, Simone, Davina, Flora
Elodie, Camille, Genevieve, Juliette, Zoey
Thanks! Camille is on my list. We just aren’t sure we like the English pronunciation as much as the French one
(Note that Geneviève has a very different pronunciation in French.)
Fiona, Ramona, Tessa, Coralie, Maxine, Celeste, Delphine, Elise, Lenora (Lenna or Nora). Can you compromise with a longer name and a nickname?
Vivienne
Esme
Chloe?
Simone
Noémie
Claire
Claudia, Amelia, Alicia, Thea
Elea
Amelia for nn Millie?
Bit of a mixed bag to match both you and your husband’s criteria: Nina, Rose, Éloïse, Astrid, Adèle, Anna, Alma, Gabrielle, Roxanne, Daphné, Marie, Chloé, Margot/aux, Charlotte, Jane, Lola, Elsa, Lucie, Maude.
Cecile. Therese. Veronique. Melisande. Regine. Gabrielle.
Just based on working well bilingually:
Lydia
Flora
Rose
Stella
Celia
Louna/Luna
Camille works well enough. Slightly different pronunciation in one language vs another isn't atypical with bilingual families.
Romy and Romilly are close enough, does your partner like Romy at all?
! Eilidh is so pretty .. Alice? Noemi? Natasha? Nathalie? Nadege? Elliette?
