    u/Italian-anonymous641, the downvotes are mysterious!

    parent
  • 199 points bothfucker

Your comment got downvoted because of redditors trying to act like you're dumb, even though they are the ones.

    parent
    67 points Specialist-Store-434

Reddit is such a stupid place that encourages being toxic. And their humour level is stuck at using old popular post titles or comments.

    Hamburger's were made in Hamburg

    parent root
    7 points Ein_Geist

Nope lol. Why does everyone think that?

The Hamburg Steak is from hamburg.

Then it was brought to the us by immigrants, where the hamburg steak was served between two slices of bread.

This was the birth of the hamburger. In the us

    parent root

    parent root

    Thank you for understanding 🙏🙏

    parent root
    1 points PixelsNBeats

Sailors coming into the port of Germany north of the city of Hamburg would have the Hamburg Steak in a bread roll. The chesseburger and all derivatives however were made in the US

    parent root
    1 points pintonoit

Nope it was actually made in 1922 in good ole Connecticut in New haven! You can still visit and get the same thing

    parent root
    1 points Gabeeayjebag17Dersey

But a hamburger in and of itself is the patty; the bread/cheese/lettuce/whatever else is just how it usually tends to be served. So IMHO the “hamburg steak” you’re describing is just a hamburger with a different name and before they figured out how to eat it correctly/the tastiest way.

I can’t believe I joined an argument about what a hamburger is

Lol ive had people gang up on me for literally pointing out something cuz i was confused not relising it was a joke ig (not even funny and it was confusing cuz it was not related to the post or sub at all) then i asked why i got downvoted not even mad just found it random to get this many downvotes over that, i got people then insulting me and i had to somehow explain i have autism hence why i didnt understand the joke and insulting me was not nice and they shouldve just explain, and further got called dumb. Bruh some ppl cant even act like normal human beings, either just dont reply if someones confusion is annoying to you or reply without insulting them like wut THATS dumb 😭💀

  • 72 points C_chan2002

If I had to assume, it's probably cuz it's not insightful. If you said something along the lines of "Thank you, I didn't know that." People probably would've thought it was kinder than saying "Well I didn't know that." Cuz it has similar vibes to "Well how should I know?". Do I think you need to be downvoted to hell for it? No. But I just assume after a couple downvotes, redditors just decide to display sheep behavior and click downvote too cuz they thought why tf not.

    parent
    23 points poon-patrol

    decide to display sheep behavior

This sort of thought process has always confused me. Like if I think something deserves to be downvoted I’ll downvote it. Do you guys really see something with -200 and think “oh well that’s the necessary amount of downvotes, it would be wrong for me to downvote it”? More downvotes j means more people saw it

    parent root
    10 points Will-to-Function

I agree that in part there is that, but it is true that we are gregarious animals with many cognitive biases and the presence of upvotes/downvotes can color how a somewhat neutral message is perceived.

    parent root
    1 points Flat_Sea1418

True. I find myself no voting up or down nearly as much when there are no vote numbers present on the comments. But I think I’ve only seen one sub where there is none at all.

    parent root
    10 points ThrowRAClueBoy

I think it's more that a lot of people see a large number of negative downvotes, say 'big number go brrr', and hit the downvote button without really assessing whether they personally think they should.

    parent root
    9 points Abject-Sport9256

Do most people not just ignore that? Wtf I dont get reddit, im going back to being cringe in real life

    parent root
    4 points robloxmaster1337

Yeah, most people (a lot are not even actually people) on reddit just do what's already presented to them. So it's hard to grow if you're initially hated and hard to lose if you're initially loved.

    parent root
    9 points Italian-anonymous641

    -2 points metcalsr

Wouldn’t want to be “tonally defensive”

    parent root
    11 points WhereasParticular867

Not if you want to be liked. It comes across as a negative personality trait to a lot of people. Some people think they're giving reasons why, but their audience is hearing excuses. The "oh well" also didn't help, because it sounds dismissive, i.e., "it doesn't matter that I'm wrong."

    parent root
    -8 points metcalsr

Sir, this is Reddit. This site is and has been a dumpster fire for years. You can also private your Reddit history and never face accountability for anything you've said on here. Also, it DOESN'T matter if you're wrong if you're willing to change you opinion when presented with new information. That is how debate works. That said, it is kind of my fault for clicking on a subreddit that genuinely cares about getting downvoted. It's better to just be yourself and not worry about a bunch of Redditors getting up in their feelings about vague, subjective problems they perceive with the tone of a one sentence comment you made one the john at work.

“Oh well I didn’t know that” just kind of sounds defensive and rude. Gives off the same vibe as “how was I supposed to know that?” even if you didn’t mean it that way.

    parent
    2 points Jaded-Monitor3043

How would you word it then? (Even this sound rude)

    parent root
    4 points WeeShovelyJoe

I probably just wouldn't say anything. If I had to, I'd probably say "Oh! I didn't know that" or "I didn't know that, thanks" or "Oh great one in the ways of knowledge and wisdom, your words are but honey for ears that rarely knoweth the sound of truth."

admitting you are wrong is an alien concept to reddit

    parent
  • 3 points NaCl_Sailor

never admit being wrong, redditors hate that because it reminds them they can be also wrong.

always double down, and if they keep coming at you dig through their comment history and either gaslight or accuse them with something via guilt by association or something.

and if all of that doesn't help, call them a nazi

    parent
  • 2 points ConsiderationSoft640

    parent root

    parent root
    5 points --_BuG_--

I don't fully get why they changed it cause before it made sense like if you're the fourth comment saying the same thing it's unoriginal and gets downvoted but being the fourth person to say anything doesn't seem like it should be downvoted

    parent root

A mass downvoted comment and the chain under it is automatically collapsed by reddit. Users started the tradition, to my understanding, so that someone scrolling through the comments isn't met with a large wall of meaningless comments that aren't contributing to the conversation

    parent root

You made an unfunny and illogical meme. As people pointed out female cows can have horns. And all minecraft mobs are both male and female.

    Did you see the meme?
