That's my second attempt using a free 2-use base by someone but I still think there is something off ( I draw with my finger on an iPad so the lines are a bit wonky )

  • Only thing I can say is to maybe simplify the mane by removing the loose strands since MLP has some relatively simple design, but even that’s kinda just grasping at straws. I think you nailed it bestie🤘

Yep, exactly what stood out to me. The hair is too complex for an official design. I’d also make the earring a bit bigger and more obvious. Only other thing that I can think of is the face, try and find a frame from the show where someone is looking that direction because I’m not sure if what you have now is “on-model”

  • I'd say youve done a pretty good job, but maybe simplifying the hair and making the eyelids a slightly darker color from the skin with the shine being less bright may help? She's very cute!

  • You need thicker more smooth lines, the ears in the show also don’t have a shadow, add texture to the hair using thin inner lines that show the shape, you can still have strand sticking out just keep them simple and curved (like this - https://toyhou.se/28786602.wild-sparks#112722659 )

The iris should have a gradient of dark - light and two shines on the inside of a lighter and darker shade of the iris colour. The lashes should be slightly thicker, and the outline of the eyelid should be a solid fill of a slightly darker version of the coat - not an outline ( like this https://www.deviantart.com/kojibiose/art/Vector-69-2-Not-in-the-mood-for-this-shi-900066123 )

Overall she looks really good and close to show style! Her design is adorable!

  • Wait I think I low-key labeled this post with the wrong flair.

  • it looks super cute already ! i think that everything is just a tad too detailed for the mlp style since they do keep it quite simple ! the hair, ears, and shine should be a little more simplified

  • Others have mentioned the hair, but I’ll also add that the ears in the show usually don’t have that shadow in the inside, just a line :) so maybe that

  • will0w.b3rry on TikTok has some advice but I think it pony looks amazing so far :)

  • Wonderful job!! She’s absolutely beautiful. Comparing side by side, these are just some minor things I noticed: - Bring the dark and lighter pink eye stripes slightly lower and extend them to the edge of the iris (they should be about 3/4 the way down - make the eyeshadow highlight a bit lighter, - simplify some of the hair, some strays are fine but not as many - make the ears just slightly less pointy - remove the hair/bangs highlight - remove the ‘sparkles’ on the earring and necklace

Again, these are just things I picked up on having official images side by side with yours. I find the extra details in yours to be a nice personal touch though!

  • I am trying to do the same thing

  • thicker lines will help, and more of a simplified shape for the hair. you’ll want the shaded leg in the background to still be lighter than the linework color, and still contrasting. additionally, most of the mane styles start from the ear, and don’t usually tend to swallow it. it looks good, though.

  • Remove most of the accessories, blush, change the eyelids, make the hair less realistic. This is being brutally honest. Otherwise it looks amazing in your own style

  • I have nothing to add I just wanted to say this is SO cute

  • I mostly agree with Hellslayer. But in addition to that 2 tone manes do wonders. And leg-ware is less common than jackets and shirts and stuff.

  • I'd try extending the muzzle a little bit, the face currently looks very round

I might be wrong, but I think the base OP used may be a photobash (multiple screenshots) base of this Coloratura image, the face reminds me of it, and that's why the muzzle looks that way

  • I think the hair is too human and not quite "Mane" enough. If that makes sense.

The clothing is not quite MLP brand either, but its adorable so who cares. Otherwise its good work.

  • the hair is a bit too detailed

i think if you took the extra stand-alone hairs out and gave her bangs like -4 lines itd look more in show pony

  • Hair is off! I also feel like the collar might have too much detail, but it may just be me

  • I think it's mostly the hair. It would never be that detailed in the show

  • Def smooth out the hair, its easier to animate hair that doesnt have fly aways so all of their characters have simple less frazzled looks to them.

  • I love the design ❤️ cute pony.

  • when i try to draw “show style” i always clean up the edges of my lines so that they end sharp, like in the show. for example, i erase the outer ends of where the leg meets with the torso so that the line tapers. (it looks like you’ve already done this with the mouth—i’d do it for every line i can.) i find that it makes the pony look a lot closer to the mlp style and also looks more professional!

  • your eyelashes and hair strands aren't something you'd see in the show. practice drawing the different eye styles from the show for a bit

  • It looks pretty spot on to me honestly

  • Hii I've been doing show art for years! Here's some tips that helped me perfect it ✨️

    • Thick lines! The show uses very simple shapes and I found that using thicker lineart helped me simplify what I was drawing until I was more confident to slim it down to a more accurate size. I don't know the exact program and canvas size so I unfortunately can't give you a perfect brush size recc, but it still stays on the thicker side :) I noticed the lines on the mane is a bit thin is all!

    • Simplify! Similar to the previous point, keep it simple. I see you added extra strands and such to the hair, but if your goal is to be show accurate, avoid this! You can definitely add more stylistic flairs like this when you're more confident / happy with the accuracy

    • Other references It's great you're using a base! You can also directly trace from the show / photobash (combine multiple screenshots to make a pose you like) to step out of an easy to use base. As bases are traced from the show as well, I've noticed some also have errors / artistic touches to them.

Here are some tips based on the image specifically

    • Remove the lines for the upper lid. Reference characters like Rarity! Eyeshadow or lids are lineless, and characters who don't have eyeshadow sometimes get a slightly darker shade of their coat. I also reccomend removing the shine!

    • Don't be afraid to go off the base. For accessories like the socks, shoes, and choker; have the lines have a little bump off the pony base give them more depth and feel real to the show. Reference Canterlot ponies for ideas on accessories!

    • Don't outline the entire eye! While the left eye is a bit covered, I can tell from the right eye that you have black lineart going around the whole eye. Typically, the line doesn't go all the way around with some exceptions like Luna. This brings a lot of focus on the eye and makes the style stand out more.

    • Speaking of the eyes, add more contrast to the colors! The darker gradient is usually a lot more noticeable, and the second little highlight should either be darker or lighter to be more noticeable.

Overall, this is very nice! I can see you definitely improving, you have a cute style and character 🌸

    Thank you so much!

    No problem w^

  • If you're willing to learn how to use vector software, that might be a good idea. FiM was animated using a heavily modified version of Flash 8, which primarily uses vectors. You can reuse parts when needed (eyes, ears, legs). Saves time. Also helps you get into the art style.

  • Check this out!

Simplicity, darling! Here is my version, although it doesn't really look like the official art style but it's a little closer, I think. I think it should still be simpler, but I didn't want to strip your wonderful oc from all of her personality🥲🥲

She’s not my oc haha but thank you for the help! Will try my best.

  • Idk how late I am, but honestly it looks close.

    2 main things to consider

    1) MLP hair consists of relatively minimal line work. Ends are typically not as detailed and anything that can be interpreted as messy TYPICALLY breaks off in 1-3 points

    2) MLP hair is not regularly 'rendered' hair almost never has highlights or glossy add-ons. The only ones who have more detailed hair are typically the princesses. So most hair looks like an unpolished plastic texture

  • Too many details! The hair strands, the bags etc etc. the mlp artstyle is relatively simple

  • Fewer accessories and details!

So often OCs are just over-designed with a level of detail that would just never be in the show where the character designs are quite simple. (Because the more complex you make a character, the longer it will take to animate them, which is a huge factor in the production of a TV series)

  • Looks absolutely amazing =D

  • try having consistent outlines, use stabilizer, and try referencing the show for most details (like the way it stylizes ribbons, loose hair strands, makeup etc.)

  • Put a darker gradient on the eyes!

  • Hello! I can try, if you want you can look at my account) if you like it, write to Dm💕

Ohh I love your artworks! I will send you a dm.

  • Keep the lineart on the hair minimal and not too thin

  • It’s very good

  • I think it looks amazing as is! But I would remove the loose strands of hair because I feel like the ponies manes are usually js very simple shapes together, and they highlighting/shading in the show is also very simple at times! (I’m no expert js my thoughts)

  • Bolder outlines and less detail. I go on pinterest and look at official artwork.

  • No idea but why not keep her as is she looks adorable 🥰

  • Simplification, think of it from an animators perspective. Bring the details down on the hair, no blush etcetc

  • Why would you need to? This is spot on if you ask me.

  • js look at official art and compare, its not that hard

I am shaking in fear and tears down to my knees wdym not hard

What is this supposed to mean? I love the shiny eyelids even if it’s not realistic in the show they are my holy grail.

    I think they're cute.
