Maybe moving in the late winter/early spring. Job will be in downtown. It is connected to the skyway and close to the tram / bus line (17/18/22?)

Looking for somewhere I can take public transport to work until I am used to driving in the snow. I hate driving in general so being in a walkable area is something I am looking forward to.

Budget is 1300 a month for rent not including utilities.

We currently have two cars but thinking about downsizing. Not sure yet.
My SO wants to drive more than I want to.

Looking for a 1 bedroom/ alcove. Mostly because we have desks.

Just having a hard time finding stuff that is in budget but also have parking that won't be 400 dollars for 2 cars.

  • Fortunately for you pretty much any place in the city is easily accessible to downtown via bus or rail.

At $1300, you are probably going to be looking for something that isn't a new build. Check out uptown / Lyn Lake area and look at some of the older buildings around there. Very walkable area with good transit connections. You'll want to find a place that has off street parking, which will be easier to find for one car than two.

  • So I think the best bet would be to focus on the garage or focus on the bedroom, not both. You can’t get a 1Bed+den with a garage for $1,300. You can get a studio with a garage for that. Or a 1+bedroom and street parking for that. You are better off looking for a duplex with a garage.

  • Does your employer sponsor parking if you don't live directly downtown?

You could also consider looking on the other side of the river in Marcy Holmes! It's more student housing and generally more affordable than true downtown. You'll need to stay away from the "luxury" new builds though. The house divided up into apartments, old brick apartments, and brownstones are what will be in your budget.
