Kansas City doesn't own the Truman Sports Complex. Jackson County does. Only voters in the county got to vote on it this past summer, whether they live in KCMO, Independence, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, etc. KCMO residents that live in Platte, Clay, and Cass counties did not.

But everything you mentioned has been weighing on me as well and this is the final catalyst. I really couldn’t care what side of the city they play on because I watch them on TV mostly anyway and I’m not willing to spend thousands of dollars to take my family to see it in person. But it’s the WHY that is the final straw for me. My kids are all in youth sports, I have more fun focusing on that anyway…

Kansas taxpayers didn’t get a vote like Missouri did because it’s a different funding source. The Kansas government unilaterally made the decision because they are funding it through star bonds, whereas Missouri was going to pay for it through increased taxes(sales I believe).

The areas of the stadium not seen by fans on game day are not in great shape. Quite a bit of water damage and decades of concrete repair. The visiting club house was on the level of a High School. The facade still looks great but the foundation is crumbling under it.

A Royals affiliate company bought land in Overland Park already. It was the site of Sprint HQ, now called Aspiria campus. It’s 207 acres, enough for not only a stadium but also developments around it.
Leaders in Kansas extended the deadline to move until June 2026. Senate President Ty Masterson said that he believed the Royals were fully committed to Kansas, though it won’t be finalized during this year’s Legislative session (December.) This also appears to extend the decision time for the Royals to decide if they want to utilized STAR Bonds.
The Kansas offer includes up to 70% stadium complex funding, 20% more than what Missouri offered. Proposals using 2026 STAR bonds won’t be adopted after the end of this month, but they have until June 2026 to sign off.
The Royals tweeted “Proud to be your next door neighbor for 50 years. Proud to be part of the kingdom into the future.” They’re supporting the Chiefs move, possibly because they have plans to follow them.
Unfortunately, it’s looking more and more likely they will hop the border due to a better stadium deal from the Kansas side and already available land. They could be holding out for a Hail Mary deal from the state of Missouri, but KCMO and the county would most probably vote any kind of deal down.

The areas of the stadium not seen by fans on game day are not in great shape. Quite a bit of water damage and decades of concrete repair. The visiting club house was on the level of a High School. The facade still looks great but the foundation is crumbling under it.

A Royals affiliate company bought land in Overland Park already. It was the site of Sprint HQ, now called Aspiria campus. It’s 207 acres, enough for not only a stadium but also developments around it.
Leaders in Kansas extended the deadline to move until June 2026. Senate President Ty Masterson said that he believed the Royals were fully committed to Kansas, though it won’t be finalized during this year’s Legislative session (December.) This also appears to extend the decision time for the Royals to decide if they want to utilized STAR Bonds.
The Kansas offer includes up to 70% stadium complex funding, 20% more than what Missouri offered. Proposals using 2026 STAR bonds won’t be adopted after the end of this month, but they have until June 2026 to sign off.
The Royals tweeted “Proud to be your next door neighbor for 50 years. Proud to be part of the kingdom into the future.” They’re supporting the Chiefs move, possibly because they have plans to follow them.

Unfortunately, it’s looking more and more likely they will hop the border due to a better stadium deal from the Kansas side and already available land. They could be holding out for a Hail Mary deal from the state of Missouri, but KCMO and the county would most probably vote any kind of deal down.

With this announcement and the season the Chiefs had we will see who all the fair-weather fans are.

Coming from St. Louis, I feel the pain of getting no respect from owners. I have seen two NFL teams leave this city in my lifetime. The fanbase is acting like they are moving across the country, lol. They are moving just down the road. I respect the people of KC voting down the prop to fund the stadium.
I wish people everywhere, and their state representatives, would vote down stadium funding.

The border war tax break shit has gone on in the corporate sector for decades now. It makes sense that this wouldnt be any different.
As a Chiefs fan and KCMO resident, I don’t see why I should be all that upset. Sure, the stadium will be ten minutes further away now, but that shouldn’t impact me in any way. Honestly, I can’t imagine it being in a worse location than it is now.
