• Abandoning a legendary stadium for tax breaks. Love to see that the billionaires are the true wellfair queens.

Absolutely. It's the only true battle. Not left v right, it's us v them.

  • As a jackson county missouri taxpayer...I'm thrilled. Glad that the govt isn't confiscating my money and giving it to billionaires.

You saved like $20 this year! FUCKyeah!!

  • The Hunt's could shell out $2 billion (which is about what Allegiant Stadium cost for the Raiders to move to Las Vegas) of their own money if they want a new stadium, and guess what, they'd still have $22 billion.

You know what you can do with $22 billion? You can spend $1 million a day for 30 years and still have $11 billion dollars left over. Ultra rich can go suck it.

    11 Billion* left over

    Hey nice catch. Fixed.

It wouldn’t even affect their net worth. Billionaires can leverage assets and debt like nobody else. The whole thing could be financed and built in house.

  • It was fun watching our car dealer governor stammer his way through that press conference today.

It become pretty clear, as he stood there with the deer in the headlights look, that the man is way over his head. But by golly, he won that spot fair and square, and all it took was selling his soul to MAGA and regurgitating the party line.

My comment has nothing to do with my opinion of the Chiefs move. I was just kind of shocked at how ignorant our governor comes across when questioned.

I guess Parsons really lowered the bar for expectations of the office.

It's a damn long way from Mel Carnahan, or even Jay Nixon.

And I still say nobody looked hard enough at that plane crash in 2000.

He's the only governor in the US that does not have a college education.

I told my boyfriend's family in Cali that our darling governor only has a high school education and they refused to believe we'd elect someone like that to such a high office 🤣 they were also confused that Kansas City (Missouri) isn't in Kansas lol

Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and Grover Cleveland never attended college. Also. James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, William McKinley, and Harry S. Truman went, but never graduated college. There have been U.S. Presidents that didn’t have a college degree. You don’t need a college education to be smart, and you don’t need one for political office. What you need for political office is common sense, great leadership ability, and good political instincts.

so why did we elect someone without a degree and also without common sense or leadership abilities or the political instinct of a wet noodle? lmao. yall are chained to looking like fools on the national and international stage cos its woke and gay if you dont vote straight R up the ballot

The most recent name on your list was elected 76 years ago and also benefitted from the corrupt good-ole-boy political system in Missouri. In the 1940s, less than 10% of the US population had a college degree, compared to nearly 44% today. Clearly the education expectations have changed over the previous 76 years.

Attended a top 7 university and was in an elite program within that school, and believe it or not, some of the dumbest people I have ever met were in that school, many of whom did very well.

College selects for a very specific type of person, and that type of person would fall to pieces if they had to live outside of a big city or on a low budget.

Our society rewards mid-management types and discourages creativity and self-sufficiency.

Well, this is very true, but Missouri’s governor is none of those things. If you’ve ever heard his speeches, interviews or met him it definitely shows how much of an idiot we elected, but at least not on sub-level of incompetence, idiotic or hateful speech and policy of TACO.

Oh he’s a graduate of the school of hard knocks. /s

Does he have a high school diploma ?

He went to Chaminade, which is a Catholic prep school in St. Louis, so it's not like he didn't have the means to go on to college.

I don’t think a degree is strictly necessary, but you have to have a decently functioning brain and experience to compensate. He has neither.

So? There have been many U.S. Presidents that didn’t have one either.

He comes across as ignorant because he probably is

  • Personally, I dont give a shit. My grandma is sad though, and knew she would be. We lost the Rams and now we lost the Chief's. We still have the Cardinals and Blues of course, but still sucks to see her sad

    Missing the Royals for now

I mean, I say this nicely, try being Oakland. 😮‍💨 At least your team is still in the same city.

Chiefs are still in Kansas City

Lost? They're just moving from one side of town to the other.

Different cities. Different states. Chiefs cannot rightfully claim KC anymore. They just lost a lifelong fan.

I'm curious, do you say the same thing to Cowboys fans? That they can't claim Dallas and you only refer to them as the Arlington Cowboys?

Jets and the Giants don’t play in the state they rep.

I thought they repped a city, not a state.

  • BYE BITCH

Hahaha this was gonna be my exact comment but the GIF was top tier.

  • Oh no.

So what are you plans for Christmas?

Watching my Broncos beat the piss outta the Chiets

Whatever helps us get the highest pick we can

  • $1 billion is a lot of tax money for a small state like Kansas to spend.

Oh well, The Missouri Tigers are now the main show in Missouri, as they were before the Chiefs and Rams came along.

It's actually 3 billion plus another billion or so for the retail developement. Somehow Kansas can't even pay for education yet they have 4+ billion for 8 football games a year.

I'm sorry, this is just a bald faced lie, sir!

Every other year it'll be 9 games.

Don’t worry — Kansas will lose a little on each ticket (instead of sending that tax money to State & Local governments for example to help increase public education funding), but they will (a) make up the loss in volume, and (b) all their poorly educated kids will at least get minimum wage jobs cleaning the stadium /s

Kansas budget problems around education are 100% solvable, but the Conservative bloc that dominates the legislature sees that funding gap as a feature, not a bug.

KS is also desperate for any kind of investment (see: De Soto). They will gladly pay 10 dollars tomorrow for a Chiefs burger today.

    [deleted]

Colleges are funded by Tax Payers

NWMSU Bearcats would like to have a word.... /s

One thing I know is they are definitely the main show in Nodaway County. Maryville has more school spirt per capita than even Columbia or Rolla.

    Kaw is Law now

I’m wonder if they will change their name. Kansas City, Missouri is named after its location on the Missouri River, immediately downstream from the mouth of the Kansas River. It was founded/named in the 1830s a decade before Kansas was even Territory and three decades before Kansas even became a state!

Some historical context here. There is also a smaller Kansas City, Kansas that is a suburb of the main city in Missouri. The thing I think younger folks/non-Kansas Cititians often don’t understand is that KC and KCK aren’t really comparable. KCK is an old suburb of KC, what was called a “streetcar suburb” in the late 1800s. It was formed from a consolidation of five smaller suburbs and named after its older parent in Missouri, some period sources say in a deliberate effort to confuse and mislead investors back East. KCK was incorporated about 1890, while KC was founded in the 1830s, so it’s always been much less populous and never had much in the way of, skyscrapers, well-known attractions or corporate HQs. In 1960 the population of KCK was 121,901 while KC was approaching 500,000. Even today KCK is about the size of Topeka, Kansas or Columbia, Missouri. It’s not even the most populous suburb anymore. By the next census KCK will likely be the 4th or 5th most populous city in the metro area. Overland Park, another suburb, was founded along the Strang Line, a direct commuter rail into Downtown KC. But of course metro areas are named after their large central city that the burbs grew around so the “Kansas City” name now is used for the bi-state metro area (and should be). I like that the name unifies our two states around a really cool city.

KCK was originally known as Wyandot city

You forget about the Battlehawks as well.

Johnson Country is wealthier than Jackson County btw.

Edit: why is this getting downvoted? Johnson county has a higher GDP than Jackson, it’s a fact not an opinion.

It's not going to Johnson County.

Stadium is not, training facilities and business offices are. Additional 1 billion dollar investment in Olathe.

Racism and white flight have really done a number on Jackson.

Probably getting downvoted because it has nothing to do with Johnson County unless you're talking about the practice facility.

They already passed it just haven't made public yet. It was leaked out

Lmao this is a ridiculously funny mindset

lol you say the same shit in every post. College football will never touch the NFL. This will not attract more Mizzou fans

It’s the same post again, no new shit needed. A lot of people will no longer support The Chiefs for this betrayal of the very city they’re named after. Why are you lashing out?

  • Byeeeee

Funny thing is I think they’ll be closer to my place lol.

  • Sheesh... love how this is getting more attention tha the tax implications surrounding removing income tax in missouri. Specifically, I worry about our already waning funding for public schools. But, yeah... the tax implications of not getting a winning bid to publicly fund a venue for sports betting, beer sales and concerts is more important.

  • This is an absolute win for Missouri. I hope the NFL puts a big red X across the state and never returns. Our tax dollars should never have to fund this shit.

Oh you know someone will come a looking in here

  • So both Rams and Chiefs left Missouri

The Rams paid St. Louis $1 billion on the way out, but yes.

more like a tad bit over 500 mil after legal fees.

The Rams/NFL paid almost $1 billion, with their legal fees.

The Rams one was more messy.

I’d argue one case is not like the other.

The NFL isn’t violating their own relocation guidelines like they did with the LA move. They are fucking the taxpayers who funded stadiums in both scenarios, though.

  • “The Kansas plan offers to cover up to 70% of the cost for a new stadium through the state’s Sales and Tax Revenue, or STAR, bonds. That allows sales tax dollars that would normally go to the state and local governments to be used to pay off development costs.”

Looks like the system of “tax dollars paying for Big Sports’ demands is still going strong.

  • I see that part of the money is for a new headquarters/training center in Olathe. does that mean theyre done training in St Joe? im pretty sure the contract is up for them at MoWest soon anyhow

With the enrollment cliff looming, I suspect some of the MO public universities will be closed down over the next 20-30 years. I would not be surprised if MO West ends up on that list.

  • Gonna start calling them the Kansas Chiefs like STL does to SKC

    That will show them!!

This guy believes corporate welfare will lead to trickle down benefits.

Nope. This guy believes that calling a team a silly name actually doesn’t accomplishes anything.

calling a team a silly name actually doesn’t accomplishes anything

    Agreed.

Sorry, I'm confused - Kansas City, KS is still Kansas City.

    Don't ask me I didn't start it

  • I hope he understands that this is going to oiss a lot of Missouri fans off. I’ve gone to my last chiefs game.

Yep. Seems extremely shortsighted. Almost hope we do bad, ticket sales fall, and they get screwed. Better yet, kick them out of arrowhead pre 2031.

You know that jackson county is going to let the stadiums goto shit for the next 5 years just like the old airport while they were building a new one. Hey no need to maintain anything here the teams are leaving. Oh sorry only 1 working toilet in this whole place. Our bad we will fix that in 2032 when we tear down the stadiums.

This is definitely going to happen. Arrowhead is going to go downhill fast the next few years.

My God if they could sign a new team and evict the Chiefs before the new stadium is ready would be hilariously petty and I'm all for it

I wish KCMO would get a freaking NHL team. I mean, I love the Blues and love going to STL to see them, but to have our own team would be the bee's knees.

Yeah I'm totally for that! Don't get me wrong I'm glad we at least have the Mavericks to watch if you are into hockey. It just sucks that if you want to watch them that the team is owned by yet another Hunt. Funny how that generational wealth thing works.

The arena is already there. The T-Mobile Sprint Center is as nice as any NBA or NHL venue that I've ever visited.

This lol. Make them go play at KU.

You guys live in fantasy land. The NFL continues to grow more popular and profitable. People arent going to mass boycott the chiefs because of this

Not much support for the Rams in St Louis anymore…

Only way they learn is when you stop buying their shit

Everyone is acting like they’re moving to another metro area. Its gonna be as far a drive from the city as it is now and Jackson county doesn’t have to foot the bill. What are you mad about??

I don't think their basis is because of the drive...

Clearly but it being 15 minutes into Kansas seems to a silly reason to be so mad that people want to no longer be fans. I would understand if they moved to the other side of the state but it’s still in the Kansas City metro.

The billionaire is chasing welfare for his hyper-profitable business instead of owning his own risk. Literally socializing the cost to privatize the profits. The whole deal about "fostering economic development" is complete BS that doesn't offset the taxpayer burdens.

That this happened is no surprise obviously, but I'm happy to see pushback in the form of voting down the tax, and people saying they're boycotting the welfare queen that refuses to use his own money to maintain his profits. Even if the stadium remains in the same metro.

I don’t give a fuck where they are. It’s the behavior of the owners that is deplorable. They’re BILLIONAIRES and tried strong arming Missouri into funding their new stadium with tax money, when Arrowhead is a great stadium. When they didn’t get their way they got another state to pay for their stupid stadium.

People like that don’t deserve more money.

I understand that thinking completely but who I responded to is clearly not angry for that reason

It’s seriously so weird. As a long time Kansas Citian I have never understood this KS vs MO mentality. It’s all basically just one big city?

Exactly. Its still in the Kansas City metro, it's just Missourians don't have to give our tax money to wealthy billionaires who could easily afford their own stadium. They want to move over the border, who cares? It's not like the Stadium area was attracing a ton of tourists

You mean the Missouri Welcome Center, Amazon distribution center, and ghetto wasn’t attracting tourists?!

Its gonna be as far a drive from the city as it is now

    Downtown to Arrowhead: 7 miles.

    Downtown to Legends: 14 miles.

So twice the distance from "the city". And much farther than that for those in the eastern part of the metro.

All the people in Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, independence, Grandview going to have a 45 min drive to the new stadium.

You know they will jack up prices. Fewer people from the east side of the metro will be able to afford to go to the games.

Please tell me your aren't this dense....No one in the metro area is really going to stop watching the Chiefs because they moved 30 minutes in another direction.

For every fan that says the BS you just did, there are 1000 other fans that will happily buy a ticket and watch the games.

I mean for f's sake..Both New York NFL teams play their damn games in New Jersey and not a single fan threw away their fandom because of it.

Arrow Head is in one of the shittiest locations for any NFL stadium. There is nothing around there to do and leaving the stadium is a damn nightmare. Moving closer to Legends is such a no brainer...Easier access and way easier to leave. Tons of shopping, restaurants and hotels. Its such a better location, its not even debatable.

Yes, let’s all cap our day at the ballpark by buying a new mattress and some potato skins at Legends!

The location isn’t the problem. You’re missing the forest for the trees.

I 💯 do not care what other cities do. This is about Kansas City and a team that has failed to match the loyalty given by it's fans.

The Jets / Giants angle is not really an apples to apples comparison. Before the move to NJ, neither team played in a stadium actually dedicated to football. Instead they shared space with baseball teams.

Most were fair weather fans anyway. Same with the Royals who I hope are on the Chiefs tails out of the state

No one cares about your Springfield opinion in KC.

I only say what I see

lol coming from a Broncos fan, talking about bandwagon fans is rich. Again, your opinion doesn’t matter from SWMO

Well, considering a grew up a STL Rams fan and a greedy billionaire ripped them away from a city that loved them and then I lived in Denver the year before the Rams left, it made sense to become a Broncos fan. I don't consider that a bandwagon, I consider it finding a new team after my team left.

And why not be a bandwagon Broncos fan if you're gonna stop watching Chiets games? We have a really great owner who is gonna build a stadium with his own money

The Royals need to be heading Downtown. Not to Kansas.

No they have a stadium already

  • Well, I'm bummed. I very much enjoyed the Arrowhead experience.

  • FUCK THE HUNT FAMILY

    And their billionaire agenda too

KCMO has supported the chiefs through thick and thin and thin from literally decades of being complete shit to a near superbowl threepeat. Abandoning the city now for tax breaks and the ability to have more luxury amenities in your stadium (which the team owners do not have to share as part of the NFL revenue sharing agreement) is a massive slap in the face. Renovate the league’s favorite historic stadium with your own money, bitch ass billionaires.

  • KC tried to get the Penguins, and now they are iced out 🥶

The penguins never were seriously going to go there. Who knows maybe that Hoffmann fella will move em to KC though now lol (nah I kid pittsburgh is a huge Hockey town)

Yeah but the penguins just got sold again to some private equity group apparently just as a bunch of big contracts are ending so idk. I dont have the highest expectations, but at least they probably wont be as terrible of humans as epstein-lite, Burkle

I think Mario and the KC people had an agreement. For them it was the very appearance of an all time great considering them. For the Pens it was obvious; Mario was a businessman. I started watching this bunch of muckedy mucks in the '70s. Wherever they would go would be my hockey home 🫡

  • Hey, Kansas City, MO still has the royals. For now.

  • Must be nice to be able to get the Kansas state government to subsidize your agenda. I can’t even get them to help me eat. The hunts are worth 23.9999999 BILLION dollars more than I am though, so of course somehow in some twisted world, this all should make sense

I got an IOU for my state taxes in KS when Brownback was still in office and I never got my money back

  • Any chance that Kansan's will get it on a ballot next cycle to kill the deal?

Can’t. STAR bonds aren’t voted on by the public and since it’s not a tax increase or new tax not many Kansans will care.

That's because they're stupid and don't care if they have an education budget.

Education budget is mainly funded by property taxes and appropriations from the general fund that KS won’t be tapping for the project.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't sales tax make up 30% or so of the general fund? And won't the star bonds basically intercept all sales tax in the district to pay for this instead of going into the general fund like it should have?

It does but that is also a small chunk of the population out of the entire state in that district. Still enough to fund education.

But it's still less than it should have gotten. And studies have shown time and time again that these deals end up being a net negative for the surrounding area.

I think my problem with this whole thing is that cities and states get so lost in having a pro sports team that they let these owners completely ass fuck them to do it. It's a shame that this was done in a way that Kansas didn't get to vote on it. I'm not sure it would have passed otherwise.

  • Clark Hunt is a bitch

  • One losing season and they blame Missouri and leave. Bye, Felicia.

Pretty crazy how they were able to predict last year that we'd have a losing season this year. Must be scripted.

  • Fuck them. Let kansas suck off the billionaire. Missouri needs to stop trying to deal with the NFL and their shitty owners.

  • Seems to me like it’s staying local and free to me while some Broncos fans in western Kansas can foot the bill they can afford.

The Hunts can’t move the caves and that’s bringing in way more tax revenue than Chiefs games. Plus out of town travelers will still often stay in KCMo for the better hotels and nightlife and just drive to the stadium like most locals.

This is the best possible outcome for Missouri residents and the hunt family. Worst possible outcome for Kansas residents that have politicians that only care about rich people.

all 5 of them in Kanorado

  • I could care less what they do in 5 years. I will be too old. Need that cash for retirement travel. 🤣

  • They’ll still be in Missouri through 2030 though.

Still sad for me as a chiefs fan

  • I think the entire nation thinks they are already in KS. MO just doesn’t have to pay for it. Win/win.

The biggest concern here is wearing concert tees that say KCK. That’s just embarrassing. St. Louis or Chicago from here on out.

  • They should move to Montana if they are keeping the Chiefs mascot. Then every year they can play the Washington Commanders and rehash the battle of Little Big Horn.

  • I never liked them anyway..

  • Love this for all concerned.

  • Kansas taxpayers love to get fleeced. What a dumbass state.

Kansas taxpayers had no input in the decision 🙃

  • Go chiefs! No really... Go...

  • What about the Royals? Any chance they stay in MO?

They need to move Downtown. The only Kansas site being discussed with them? The locals don't want them there.

they'll move to the Sprint campus even though no one wants them there

They’re moving to Little Rock. Enjoy!

They have a great stadium, seems weird to move. Kaufmann is often ranked as the second best ball park in the US, I thought.

  • So, do opposing teams now get to play Mr. Brightside when facing the Chiefs?

  • People will forget

  • Went to first Chief’s game this year. Wasn’t aware that the stadium/ parking is basically in a field…

the Legends in KCK and the speedway is basically a feed also

  • Will KC take the Chiefs to court like the St. Louis??

  • Best thing to occur. Area around the stadium is run down. There are no bars, restaurants or extracurricular activities to enjoy safely during a game day weekend there. Absolutely no nearby tourism, shops or stores too. Very unsafe too. Difficult to get into and out of on game day from Interstate 70 highway. Ten story Adam's Mark hotel abandoned. Nearby water park abandoned too. Was shut down a year after a murder took place there near the pool, in broad daylight, with kids swimming. Royals stadium definitely moving away too. Rumors Chiefs players and staff want a new stadium, not another renovation.

  • ::St Louis Rams fan enters the chat::

  • Socialism is bad, except for corporate socialism (Trickle down economics) that one is good #sarcasm

  • Make a statement and make the Hunt's pay, all Missouri residents should boycott the Chiefs immediately

  • Well……that SUCKS😐.

  • Tax breaks in order to keep paying 1 or 2 players 40 mil/ yr. I knew there was a reason I never carried to spend 20 for a hot dog.

  • Oh no! In even more critical news, we have a pedophile as a president…

  • This is yet again an issue of the NFL not giving a s*** about the teams or the fans. They didn't care about the Rams leaving MO for greed, nor do they care about the Chiefs. All they care about is making their money off of Mahomes and Kelsey. The NFL could care less about their players wellbeing or the fans in general. They've proven it time and time again.

And by the way, people need to hold this ass-hat of a governor accountable. I mean seriously, he wasn't capable of negotiating to keep our NFL team in the state. IT'S HIS JOB to protect our local jobs, the state's income, etc. He allowed one of the biggest NFL teams slip away from our state. Again, more of the same. The man is incompetent.

  • i lived near the state line, it's wild seeing this.

  • So are they gonna be the Kansas, Citychiefs?

  • But those SNAP benefits.

  • Guessing it’s because trump was like “why are the Kansas City chiefs in Missouri???” “Get them back to Kansas!”

  • Don’t let the screen door bang ‘em on the butt

  • Lamar would never do this. If he was one thing, he was loyal and never seemed to bow to the almighty dollar.

  • F**K Mayor Lucas, Frank White and that greedy nepo baby Clark Hunt

  • Good. Dont see any benefit of having them other than saying I live in x state with x team.

  • I've seen this coming 20 years.

  • Things your average redditor doesn't care about

  • If you live in Missouri and buy season tickets to the Chiefs, if we had passed the tax for the stadium to keep them in Missouri, you would have paid for the new stadium (along with the rest of us who don't care), and then they would have raised your season ticket (all ticket) prices. You're still probably going to see a bump in ticket prizes, even with more seats available to everyone, with the excuse of "we have to pay for the new stadium", even though Kansas taxpayers will be footing the vast majority of that bill. Ask the Buffalo Bills fans, it happened to them.

I believe they’re doing fewer seats and more boxes

  • Hope you Chiefs fans have your passports in hand so you can see them checks notes on the other side of the city.

  • Crazy that people want to appease billionaires so very badly just so they can have a sports team full of people that aren't from there, have no loyalty to the city at all, and will leave for a competing team at the drop of a dime (or end of a contract) for a slightly better deal.

  • So the Chiefs will remain KC Chiefs?

  • Missouri is a trash place. who gives a fuck? Let Jackson county enjoy their projects in peace.
