My thought was “who is Oswaldo Arcia?”
By nearly every modern metric, he was among the least productive hitters in baseball with regular playing time. That is not new; he's always been a glove-first shortstop.
Now 32, he has been the worst hitter with 800 or more plate appearances over the past two seasons. His 33 wRC+ was both a career low and the second-lowest of any player who took at least 200 trips to the plate in 2025.
Well, they needed SS depth somewhere, and this is cheap, veteran depth. Questions about where Culpepper plays then, unless they just alternate and play different positions on every other day.
Makes sense considering their other moves and only having Khol’s cash to spend this offseason. Arcia will probably make the 26-man roster as the bench IF that can actually play SS. If there’s any Khol’s cash left I hope they use it all to sign Shelby Miller to be the closer.
