I’m about to move out of my current apartment into a shared place with a friend, and I’ll basically only have one bedroom for my space. It’s kinda a temporary spot too, maybe around three months, so I’m trying to keep furniture super simple and easy to move to the next place.
The room is a bit over 100 sq ft. I know I need a bed, a small desk, and a chair/stool. But I’m also not sure what to do about clothes storage, do I need to buy a wardrobe, or is there some easier temporary solution?
For the bed, I’d really prefer something comfortable but still easy to carry around. Has anyone used a folding bed or a Japanese style floor mattress? If you’ve got any decent brands, please drop recommendations. And same for small desks, something around 3ft long would be perfect. Really thanks for help!
I mean if you dgaf and you don't have too much stuff, you could keep the clothes in your luggage instead of buying a whole wardrobe. A mattress on the floor and a cheap desk and chair off facebook marketplace or something similar and you're set. Or you could even ask some friends if they have these stuff to loan you, maybe it's just taking space in their home. I'd be more than happy to give you the one person mattress the previous renter left in my apartment lol
Maybe something like this for clothes storage- easy to take apart and move. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Chrome-Carbon-Steel-Rolling-Clothes-Rack-3-Tier-Garment-Rack-on-Wheels-w-Rod-Metal-Adjustable-Wardrobe-Closet-Organizer-T3651-XS-64CR/338112104. For a desk, I'd look to Ikea- they have a variety of tabletops that you just add legs to. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/table-tops-11844/
just enough size for your place.
I keep my clothes on a plastic shelf unit from the hardware store. I’ve got a couple of bins for socks and undies and everything else goes on the shelves. It was originally just until I found a dresser I liked but it’s very versatile, you can also store other stuff on it, and I decided I really like it. It also breaks down for moving, and it could be just a shelf later on.
A clothes rail is much smaller than a wardrobe and packs down more easily for transportation.
I’ve used a costway folding bed before, you can fold it up during the day so the room feels way bigger, and it’s honestly really portable. https://www.costway.com/twin-size-folding-bed-with-memory-foam-mattress-and-heavy-duty-metal-frame.html
Have you considered building your own furniture from scrap wood? This would only work if you have access to a shop, but there are a surprising amount of those around, often called makerspaces.
