• Ask them what 5 people they know that they’re okay with dying

They'll probably say immigrants or leftists

It's much more likely to be someone from their church, their homeschooling friends, or the mom's Tic Toc or Instagram group.

    Infants in particular

"Which 5 babies at church are you choosing to die?"

When you homeschool your kids while being dumb as shit yourself. That should be a crime.

Isn’t measles a miserable illness even if you don’t die?

    Yes and leaves scars.

And forks over your immune system meaning you might lose immunity to other things. Oh, and measles induced SSPE? Yeah, it can happen whenever. Like a disease flashback that kills you, because measles can hide in the body and wait until it feels like coming out again.

Oh you left out brain damage. Usually that's considered bad, but with conservatives you can't really tell the difference, so ya...no big deal right?

Ask them which 5 first degree family members they are okay with suffering a lot before dying

I mean... they probably have 5+ people they dont really like so maybe not?

You know there's at least 5+ people that don't like them. I don't like them and I haven't met them.

easy answer: black, brown, or immigrant.

I doubt people like this even personally KNOW anyone who’s black, brown, or an immigrant

Ask them if they are pro life too.

  • It's always fuck those 5 people until it's you or someone you love. People like this are parasites on the ass of society.

Also dumb as fuck when they don’t realize 3-5 people dying per 1000 is a fuckton. Ignorant ugly vile stupid ass people. I’d go NC bc this is heinous.

And because it's a fuck ton of people, and a lot of people need hospitalization who don't currently die, once the hospitals are overwhelmed that rate is going to spike, as will the death rate from everything else.

My father nearly died in January of 2022 because first the VA spent a year with a thumb up their ass about approving his heart valve replacement then when he went to our rural ER in multi system organ failure they couldn't find a hospital capable of doing the surgery with an open bed anywhere. And I mean anywhere, they were contacting hospitals 3 states away, everywhere was slammed by the combination of COVID, flu, and rsv. After 3 days of looking they called me to come say good bye. Fortunately 10 minutes later they called to say they'd found him a spot at a hospital that could do the surgery and now he's doing great. But yeah people with other medical emergencies will die if there's too many measles cases.

This is what all the idiots fail to see. Even if a disease has a 0% mortality rate when treated, it would be a big deal if it frequently required hospitalization just because of the burden on hospitals preventing care for other emergencies.

    ~11 million cases @ 2 deaths/1,000 cases ≈ 22,000 dead

Dude is okay as long as it's someone else's kids.

It’s honestly very pro-life of them

    Virus's genetic sequences matter!

Also that it’s 3-5 per year and we have the next 20 years to calculate, since it’s not like these idiots will start vaccinating again until we see historic numbers of deaths.

Exactly. It’s only 1,900 cases now. But if you expand it to our population of 343M that would be over 1.7M that would die of measles. Thats more deaths than Covid.

And from what I’ve heard measles is even more contagious, so likely more?

And what makes me laugh is they think this came from immigrants. Nope it came from unvaccinated people traveling and spreading it to their communities.

Do you take bets on what these ‚it is only a few deaths‘-people think about abortion?

It’s also not going to stay that low if people continue to not fucking vaccinate their children.

Seriously do this people think at all? I would reply "So you're fine with people dying? What if your family or friends were part of that statistic? Would you still laugh about them dying?"

Or how things can be exponential.

Take Zebra mussels and the same idiotic take on not following protocol and launching boats into lakes... it sure aint fine now is it?

sigh. I'm an MPH student and I'm just so tired

They forget they don’t get to choose the people that die and otherwise have complications. If you want to put additional strain on the healthcare costs in America it’s a good idea though.

They really don't care until it effects them personally.

  • I mean, if we expand those numbers to the population of the US, that's about a million people dead. But hey, if it doesn't affect me, it doesn't matter!

We're reaching the apex of "every man for himself" cult of individualism taken to its final form. A complete disregard for the needs of society as a whole.

My favorite type of delusional. The rugged individual who ignores every comfort of modern society that they enjoy and believes the can live just fine completely on their own. They chop their own firewood afterall!

After having it delivered in 16” pre-split rounds. But some of those are too heavy, so they have to put them through their kindling kracker. Like the pilgrims!

It’s not even that. If it were every man for himself - every man would get vaccinated

More of a sign of ignorance and lack of information.... or just sheer stupidity.

Focusing on the death rate is a dangerous mistake. In the US, something like 1 in 6 cases require hospitalisation.

Then you have the risk of effects like deafness and other nasty things. Measles also seems to wipe out previously-acquired immunity to other diseases too.

Aside from all that, it boggles me that there are people in the world given this binary choice between sick and not-sick, and they choose the former because they distrust... the people that would treat them when sick.

And then they rage against everyone because insurance doesn’t cover everything. But they will die comforted in knowing that is exactly what they wanted and voted for.

I know that, you know that, but they're dumb, and that's the argument they chose to go with, thus i expanded on their logic to point out how even their attempt to hand wave it away doesn't pass muster.

These are the same people who go, "if so-and-so has 800 million dollars and there's 800 million people in America, why can't they just give everyone 1 million dollars and end poverty?" and think they're being smart.

Went through this same bad understanding of percentages with COVID. "But it has a 99% survivability!" Okay, Janet, but if 100M catch a disease and 1% of them die from it that's 1M people dying from a disease outbreak who were not otherwise going to die this year, do you have any concept of such a massive pile of human corpses that is?

That's if everyone in the country contracted measles but there are other problems with measles besides the death rate

That’s not the point. The point is, measles can just as easily come from an American individual traveling abroad and coming back with it. To attribute this to immigration is to jump to a dangerous assumption based on feels and not data. It’s lazy and it has the potential to cost lives also. So if avoiding the loss of human life is your objective then making these assumptions and unfounded correlations directly contradicts that objective.

Immigrants are more likely to be MORE vaccinated than American citizens due to international vaccine laws

Measles hasn't been extinguished, it still exists in the US. You don't need to have anyone travel to see it pop up. Stop vaccinating and it can flourish again.

I think their point is that people who immigrate from more impoverished countries are likely to be unvaccinated against measles due to lower health standards. However, I don't know if the data backs this claim up.

To get most immigration visas, you have to have gotten certain vaccinations. If you aren’t already vaccinated, then you have to get them as a part of the required medical exam. At least, that’s how it was pre-Trump 2.0. I don’t know if it’s changed since Jan 20.

So for all the years prior to this past year we have had all kinds of people coming into the usa and magically, with proper vaccination levels we did not have these outbreaks. I don't buy the immigration theory, it's a ruse for the anti-immigrant set.

Nearly every country has standards to vaccinate against measles at this point.

That doesn’t mean they all get the vaccine…

But the truth comes out when you dig…

Almost every single measles outbreak in the US has been traced back to anti-vax communities. And that’s how vaccines work…. Someone comes here from a place that doesn’t rigorously enforce vaccines. Now they either don’t get measles because they aren’t exposed to it due to vaccines/it doesn’t severely impact anyone else, or they get it and spread it because the rest of the people there don’t support vaccines…

The simple fact that the death rates aren’t higher is proof that the vaccines work…

You mean people coming from Mississippi?

Unironically, Appalachia is of the poorest and most underrepresented geographic regions in the US. There, you're lucky to have all your teeth, let alone vaccinations. Poverty's a bitch.

I know that, you know that, but they're dumb, and that's the argument they chose to go with, thus i expanded on their logic to point out how even their attempt to hand wave it away doesn't pass muster.

    Gotta admire “pro-lifers.”

I mean we know a huge percentage of Americans don't care about a million people dying since it just happened and they didn't fucking care.

  • People also forget the long term complication. Such as subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. Vaccines are so important. Argument could be made about when they are given/the schedule. But the need for them should not be questioned.

Okay let's forget about all that how are you so nonchalant about five people dying over a disease that should be eradicated. That's still five when it should be zero. Those people probably have families, they probably enjoy living, those five people are still human fucking beings man

Nurse here. Saw this during Covid. Basically these people don't give a shit because they can't empathise until it's their own gran or grandpa that dies.

You basically just described every Republican on every issue I've ever met. "It's not a problem until it's my problem and I'll use every opportunity to solve it even if I fought tooth and nail against the solution"

I just saw a video about a conservative woman saying how she almost died because she couldn’t get an abortion as the fetus was causing her to go septic. I don’t wish that on anyone, but you’re also only mad because it happened to you.

I just saw that too. There was absolutely no sympathy for her in the comments.

Empathy? Yes. Sympathy? Wonder how that bed you made feels like to lie in

My ex voted for the Oval Office Orangutan last year and 4 months later got diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer the week after his 45th birthday. Cancer research funding being pulled? He voted for that.

    He's now on hospice.

Thats so many people these days. The lock downs broke so many people's sense of community.

People blame it on the covid but people were never-not like this

Yeah you guys went through the worst of it. Lots of us had it bad but obviously hospitals would have the worst.

There's a famous pic from my area, the top picture is of people having a grand old time at a local bar (that my friend actually worked at) and the bottom was someone sitting on the steps of a local hospital wearing scrubs, just face buried in hands. I wish I still had that picture.

It was fucked. The internet algorithms worked so many people up into a storm about their personal rights being tread on isolating/wearing a mask because 99%of us will be fine so what's the point.

Had a dad unintentionally put his kid the icu for a month because he gave him covid and we copped the dads guilt rage every day.

Unfortunately a lot of people go through life without ever realizing all those faces you see everyday are also full humans with complete lives. They only see them as “npcs” for lack of a better term.

And the fact that measles basically wipes your immune system’s memory so that you’re vulnerable again to things you had acquired immunity to…

No, they should absolutely be questioned, healthy skepticism is super important. The issue is that the education system has been systematically disemboweled over the last 5 decades (and longer) and the average adult doesn't understand science in any meaningful way. They don't make an attempt to understand how vaccines work, so seeing the centuries of data on inoculation doesn't matter.

Stupid people are going to be stupid, unfortunately.

  • It’s the soccer moms who are US citizens that are not vaccinating their kids.

Yeah, the 'imports' from 'dirty countries' know damned well the efficacy of vaccines and what a fucking horror it can be to not have them.

Yupppp all the antivax people are know are stay at home moms who's research came from Facebook posts.

Im so tired of the dumbest people in our society acting like they know more than actual experts.

When you are really ignorant you are too ignorant to know how ignorant you are.

There's no need for doublethink when you can't think in the first place 🥀

[Republicans] Donald Trump took illegal immigration to zero.

[Also Republicans] We are drowning in illegal immigrants and they caused these diseases.

Thanks Dunning! Or is it Kruger?

That’s why it’s so hard to communicate that, because they don’t have capacity to understand

You can explain it to them, but not understand it for them.

    Facebook is cancer.
That entire site is just overrun with AI, misinformation, bots and ads.

As a sahm that definitely vaccinated my kids, I do my best when I encounter that in the wild. Sometimes they just stop talking to me but hey at least I tried.

Yep, mexico has one of the best vaccine programs

When I immigrated here they put me and my family through a battering of tests and vaccine titers to see if we were immune to stuff.

It's battery but I love "battering." I'm sure it felt like that.

The break outs in California are in the "upper class" schools and areas

Those kids have DADS too, ya know…dads who are also stupidly choosing not to vaccinate their children

More like the MAGA fanatics, hippies and the very religious

I think the hippies are now vaccinating their kids; the pendulum has swung.

  • "Who gives a shit if kids die?!"

    - pro-lifers

Exactly, they throw a fit about abortion (becauee it's really all about controlong women) and children allegedly dying from covid vaccines, but suddenly TOTALLY PREVENTABLE measles deaths don't matter because it doesn't fit the brain-dead narrative fed to them on Fox News.

Yep, the only thing they ever cared about was the bigotry

    Yeah "pro-lifers" winkwink

  • 95000 people died from measles in 2024. 11 million contracted it.

    Can cause:

    blindness

encephalitis (an infection causing brain swelling and potentially brain damage)

    severe diarrhoea and related dehydration

    ear infections

    severe breathing problems including pneumonia.

Nothing like brain damage and being blind for life

I had measles when I was a child - it was fucking brutal.

It also really fucks your immune system for like 2-3 years. You get sick from everything!!

Yeah it wipes out your immune system “memory,” so anything you had immunity to before, you no longer do.

  • "Oh no we are going to lose 5 people" I bet are the same people protesting in the street to "save" a random woman's fetus.

  • I’m sorry you couldn’t pick your family

You can't pick your family in advance but you can pick your family going forward.

  • Their mentality is “it hasn’t happened to me yet, so I don’t give a damn about five children dying.” Measles spreads quickly. The 2000 infections can turn into 20,000 in a few hours, and it’s only the ones that are reported, the unreported numbers are always much higher. It’s the responsible parents vaccinating their kids that are keeping the numbers this low. It’s what’s providing a false sense of security to these anti-vaxxers. If it weren’t for high vaccination rates and our robust healthcare system, our mortality would be much higher. Just like with Covid, they’re gonna get sick, take up hospital beds and stress our hospitals causing a cascade of preventable deaths for no reason other than being stupid and stubborn.

  • So they think there's 5,000 people in America?

  • Stupid people have benefited so much from scientific advances that they stop seeing it. They believe the baseline human experience is fine, and that their uninformed opinion is just as valid as any expert's.

This is what you get when education doesn't even get across the basic fact of how we go lt to this point.

You can't argue with these people either, because they don't argue with the intention of learning new things and sharpening their understanding. They argue for the sake of it, to feel less scared and stupid.

  • Crazy how that tune would change if one of those 5 people was them or someone close to them

They'd still blame everything and everyone else over their own ignorance

Of course, but I'm saying in a flash it would go from "I don't care it's only 5 people" to "oh no dad/mum/son/daughter died how will I cope". I'm not saying they would suddenly realize it was their fault, I'm not in the habit of hoping for miracles

  • So the death count of a full outbreak assuming nobody gets vaccinated is between 300,000 and 1,000,000 in the US. If everyone just decided to follow what OPs family believes about vaccines.

Theyll be singing a different tune once someone in their family passes. I had some antimask inlaws who suddenly started wearing masks when one of them passed away on intubation and several of them lost their sense of taste.

  • Two very different, very wrong, takes. That's wild

  • These type of diseases target the leopard face crowd and the Herman Cain's.

Unfortunately no, the mostly target the children of those people and random people who are already immunocompromised

Yup, and it is child abuse and neglect of medical care.

  • What a ghoul. Yes, the world will end for the families of those 5 people. Even one death from an EASILY PREVENTABLE DISEASE is one too many.

  • You cannot enter the country without the appropriate vaccines.

  • the ones that dont die suffer a bunch of consequences and measles RESETS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM.

Every immunity your body built up, including against a common cold, will be WIPED and you will be much more likely to fucking die of the most mundane infection.

    MORONS

Idiots spreading anti science shit should be in jail. They are literally causing the death of hundreds of millions of people by spreading this shit for decades. Instead we tolerated them until they actually are taking over the govt

And this lasts for 2-3 years until your system rebuilds itself.

Some people have to get re-vaccinated with all of the vaccines if they happen to contract measles

Thanks for this, I didn’t know about measles resetting your immune system. This is a good piece of info to have for when I’m talking to certain anti-vax family members 🙄

  • Empathy is so exhausting.

  • African mothers will carry their children for miles and get a vaccine and these lazy, ill informed, nitwits let children die of preventable diseases because a facebook conspiracy theory came up on their timeline one too many times.

  • Didn’t you post this early today? Because I definitely commented on it.

  • Force women to have babies and then let them get measles and die? These people have zero brain cells. They only care if it affects them personally, but still want to force people to live how they see fit.

  • Moved to the US. Probably better vaccinated than most locals tbh. And I already came from a 1st world country with mandatory vaccinations. Viruses fear me.

Edit: for clarity, being fully vaccinated is a requirement.

  • Thinking five preventable human deaths is no big deal is sociopathic

  • My Momma always said, “ Stupid is as stupid does.”

  • You need a new family

  • Remind them that even if they don't die, they'll have to retrain their immune system by catching ever cold and flu and everything else they've ever had because one of the things measles does if make your immune system forget everything it ever knew.

  • But I bet they’ll weep and wail at the idea of a non-sentient embryo being flushed out after someone takes abortion pulls.

  • Ope. Anti vaxxers children are paying the price for their parents idiocy

  • Around people in us 450,000,000 in us. 1 of three out of a thousand? 33.3 of a thousand equals three people?

  • That statistic, about 1-3 out of every 1000 measles cases in the US leads to death...isn't it so low BECAUSE of vaccines?

If so, which I suspect it is, the number of deaths will go up. A lot.

  • I know I would’ve been kicked from that chat a long time ago 😂 I don’t waste time beating around the bush. I’d say respond back, like they do. Clearly they don’t mind a couple of jokes.

“Damn, crazy how a lot of measles breakouts are magats 🥀🥀🥀 who believed in conspiracy. The party is shrinking 😩”

  • "Import people with no vaccines" as if the problem isnt white americans that dont believe in science. 🙄🙄🙄

  • I'm so tired of this timeline. Why couldn't we become the type of society that increases intelligence instead of the type that becomes idiocracy

  • As someone due in February in Florida with their first child and terrified about putting them in daycare now that vaccine mandates are being done away with - FUCK these people.

  • The primary danger with measles is the contagiousness, not the mortality. They have no idea how viruses work.

And the long term immune challenges

  • Yet they turn around and act soooooo bigly bothered by like 2 trans athletes.

  • This disease was virtually eradicated ten years ago in most first world countries. The fact that there's over 1000 cases in the US is pretty telling

    It will only get worse.

  • These people know the vaccine status of immigrants?

Or they completely ignore RFK Sec of Health who continues to push misinformation, anti vaccine theories, and conspiracy theories?

    The mental gymnastics is insane.

  • their world will be ending if 5 kids they knew died from measles. but hey, it doesn't affect them, right?

  • When you have too many people who shun vaccinations, and add to that celebrities who publicly do so ( such as Aaron Rodgers), this is what you get.

  • Is this a fixed version? Because you censored the peoples last names

Also billy probably was too exposed to tiktok i guess

  • Does Billy think the US population is 2500?

  • Maybe Billy will be one of those 5.

  • No. When your an idiot and listen to HHS Bobby Kennedy on vaccines. And not getting them for your kids causes them.... re/re.

  • Billy and Melissa sound like pieces of work

  • Reposting texts with different names?

  • I mean, that's true. Why do you think the natives got wiped out when the livestock having europeans came over; disease spreading.

For all the griping to people about herd immunity and then you disagree with a simple statement that healthcare in the third world isn't as advanced or effective?

  • I want to see a 2028 candidate who runs on turning most the prisons in the US into education camps for these fucking bottom of the barrel swine.

  • It doesn't matter if its 1 in 1000 or 500 in 1000, the number is too high when it's YOUR family suffering, it's even worse if it's something preventable.

  • 1000 out of 1000 infections gets immune amnesia, 10-70% of your immune system will be destroyed.

Around 1:600 cases in young children leads to SSPE 6-15 years later.

  • Wait till they stop doing polio. One of the bright ones will say if I had only known.

  • Every single person who dies as a result of unvaccinated disease transmission is an easily preventable death.

The idea that we should just not do anything about it and accept it is not just lazy, it’s evil. Thank you Boris for making that government policy in the start of the COVID pandemic

  • Doesn't measles make people go blind or give them brain swelling?

  • No worries mate, I'll remind them when they arrive in hell.

  • holy shit people are so out of touch.

  • Actually the unvaccinated immigrant thing could be a big deal…

  • Just because you’re related to them does not obligate you to having contact with them.
Just in case the rest of their beliefs/attitudes/etc are this shitty.
    You don’t even need permission.
I’m sorry you have family that callous/misinformed.

  • Wait, which is it? Is it a minor thing that barely affects anyone, or is it a health crisis caused by immigrants?

  • Whoa - so your entire family is not only a right wing talking point, but a different right wing talking point. Like they can’t even align on which cruel, wrong thing to spout.

  • Does Billy think that the population of the US is 1,000 people?

  • Remember when the right fear mongered over Hispanic migrants bringing diseases like MEASLES into the US? Because I remember my family doing that, but now it's no big deal apparently! Zero object permanence, I swear.

  • Knee deep in ivermectin

  • When you import people 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 launch me off this planet directly into the sun, fam

  • Billy always been re-arded?

  • That doesn’t even account for all the ways it could fuck you over without killing you. Five people isn’t a number. It’s five people who had worth.

  • Wow, Billy is a real asshole.

  • Your first mistake was sending them numbers…

  • Wtaf, were they just randomly pulling numbers out of their ass? Where do they even get 5? Wtaf again

  • Billy isn't good at math

  • Places like Mexico have healthcare systems with mandatory vaccinations for public schools. They’re turning Mexico into an undeveloped country in their minds and hoping that no one fact checks it.

  • They blame everything on immigrants

  • Honestly, the antivaxxers are gonna die out if they keep this up.

  • I bet they claim to be Christian too.

  • Damnint Uncle Baby Billy!

  • "It's all the unvaccinated immigrants" goes hard

    Pick a lane lol

  • Yeah we don't import people without vaccines, but I like that line of thinking. Let's stop deporting vaccinated people and go after the unvaccinated.

  • As a Melissa myself, we do not claim her. She sounds like a Missy to me anyway

  • Billy needs to go back to school, specifically maths.

Frankly I'd stop talking to both of them. Neither seem to be worth it...

  • This is what happens when idiots are allowed to vote. These people probably voted for the child rapist because their racist pricks. In my opinion people like this deserve every bad thing that happens to them. Unfortunately we're all paying the price because of them

  • Glad you finally took out the last names at least

  • import =) lol
