I've been stuck here for 45 minutes because the tow truck driver didn't think hard enough to not block the only exit out of the parking lot. There are about 25 cars full of people trapped here.

45 minutes to load a car? Did they stop for coffee or something?

    parent
    67 points pirategirljess

They must not have called AAA and are paying by the hour.

    parent root
    2 points jptechjunkie

Must be A service not triple AAA

    parent root
    -12 points FishAroundFindTrout9

God AAA is the absolute worst

    parent root
    2 points SeaUNTStuffer

Idk why people are down voting you. Bad for the tow truck drivers, pays them like shit, and therefore they'll only take AAA calls as an absolute last resort, and you'll often have to wait HOURS for a tow.

    AAA is for poor people.

    parent root
    2 points FishAroundFindTrout9

I don’t know but that’s okay. I’m a cop and when I work wrecks that are in the roadway with a vehicle that has to be towed, I hate to hear the owner say that they have AAA. The wait is always so long that we end up having to cancel AAA and go with our on duty tow service. We just can have the road blocked that long in most cases.

This reminds me of a cold windy day at Golden Gate Park, we were waiting in line for ice cream and suddenly it isn't moving. The pair up in front were waiting for the second ice cream after receiving the first. 45ish minutes later the guy returns and hands them the ice cream. Dude went to lunch or something without telling us and in the middle of their order.

I waited that long because by 15 minutes I thought they must be on their way back soon. By 30 minutes I figured we waited too long to abandon ship. It sucked I should have just walked away. The ice cream was great, but no ice cream is that great.

Yeah those dudes have special trucks. It still shouldn't take this long though. The driver may be sitting there because the person can't figure out their payment (if he's dropping off) and is getting ready to drag it up and to the yard if they can't pay.

I agree you definitely shouldn't drive over a curb because if you think you are going to curb your wheel or damage your car driving over a curb you clearly don't know what your doing. It's also not for no reason, if you think sitting in a parking lot for over 45 minutes because someone doesn't know how to do their job is completely reasonable you must have absolutely nothing to do in your life. Your reasons for not wanting to are completely unreasonable that's why you think this controversial.

    parent root
    1 points caramel-aviant

Ive driven plenty of cars in my life that id take over a curb no problem but my current car I would rather not.

Id prefer to not take unnecessary risks with my car if I dont have to. I also explictly and very clearly said potentially in my original comment.

In my jeep or my wife's tuscon? Sure no problem. Just not my current car with low clearance, low profile tires, extremely stiff suspension and plastic undertray.

Either way, if I can wait then I really dont mind waiting whats the big fucking deal to you. You can do whatever you want with your own expensive car and ill do whatever im personally comfortable with when it comes to mine.

The fact that you took my not wanting to do so as me just "having nothing to do in my life" simply because I can decide to patiently wait for a little bit is honestly some weirdo behavior

Take a look at the clearance im working with here. Maybe you still wouldn't care but I do.

I saw the signage on the left for Hobby Lobby, Ross, and what I think is Orville (I didn't know that store). Then I saw the "ESL" sign further away in the center. I did a quick search using all of those as the search term and found a reference to Eastview Mall. Looking for that landed me near Rochester, NY. Looking further for ESL credit union locations, I found the Hobby Lobby/Ross/Orville center and could match High Point Drive with the partial name on the brick wall next to the center stop sign in the photo.

Worked with a guy once that had a little challenge for his coworkers to find out where he lived. Not sure how the game started, it had been going on for years before I started but everyone took a jab at it.

We had a new hire training one day, not even from the same town. He showed her a picture of his cat. The picture was of the cat sitting at the top of a flight of stairs and taken from the bottom step. Through the window at the top of the stairs you could see a few trees and a red glow in the distance.

Next day she had his address.

She identified the red glow as the neon from a gas station. Looked up every location for that chain in town, found the ones with 3 pine trees between it and a 2 story house within whatever range she had decided, then using google maps found the only one with a 2nd story window facing the gas station and looking between the trees.

    It was creepily impressive.

    parent root
    5 points Intelligent-Sand-639

Does it not trigger some type of innate curiosity, when someone complains on the Internet about being trapped and inconvenienced, and includes a handy photo of the scene, to want to know where this happened? I was curious. So I took it as kind of a little scavenger hunt to figure it out.

    parent root
    0 points FinanciallySecure9

    parent root
    1 points Intelligent-Sand-639

Well, I would have had the personal restraint to not do something like this if it were about someone's place of work or residence. This is a shopping mall. Does it identify the city/town. Certainly. But that's what people need to realize when they post photos and comments on the Internet. We're not your small group of FB friends and family. We are strangers sitting at our computers passing time and satisfying our curiosity.

Sometimes, it takes 5 minutes. Sometimes, it takes an hour to drag somebody's shit-brick onto a roll back, strap it up and get on my way. Depends on the situation, what's wrong with the car, the space you're working with, etc. I've been in this business a while. It's not always as straightforward as it seems. Whatever the case, once those lights come on, nobodies getting by my work area until I'm done.

    parent
  • 11 points Orca_Mayo

Ex-tow truck driver here: as frustrating as it is, it's sometimes the only way we are able to get a car on the bed.

Yes it sucks and we apologize and we're moving as quick as we can but sometimes there are complications with the car like if the wheels are jammed up, broken axles and missing Wheels that require skids to be put on a flatbed like this one here which does take a little time if we don't want to damage the car.

I've had to drive on the opposite side of the road just even got a car the safest way possible, it's as annoying and inconvenient as it sounds.. but so is their car breaking down.

It sucks I get it, we can only get the car from one of two directions and we take the easiest one even if it means blocking everyone.

I know it sounds like bs, but cars breaking down is incredibly inconvenient for everyone, it happens to the best of us.

I'm not trying to call you out or anything but be thankful your car runs and you're not the one getting towed to a mechanic.

Edit: "why didn't they grab it the other way" it depends on the drive of the vehicle they're towing, sometimes it's easier tow from the front and sometimes it's easier to tow from the rear. It really depends if your car is front wheel or rear wheel drive if it can't be put into neutral.

For 45 minutes to tow a car? Personally it never takes me that long to tow a car, sometimes things can go wrong and takes more time.

If you have further questions feel free to ask and I'll answer the best as I can.

    parent
    10 points ostrichfood

Not 100% just because it’s more “convenient” for you doesn’t mean it’s legal…if you’re blocking the exist and there is no alternative exist…cops will be called. Now, what they do when they come, not sure. But imagine telling someone who is having a medical emergency…sorry, “we the tow trucker drivers” are more important than you…which is why we took the “easiest way even if it mean blocking everyone”

    parent root
    2 points Orca_Mayo

If there is an emergency then it would be a justifiable reason to move out of the way obviously.

    parent root
    -5 points ostrichfood

Or, maybe, just maybe, don’t block the exists? They can’t guarantee they can move the tow truck fast enough…every second counts in an emergency.

    parent root
    2 points Orca_Mayo

And to add more to this stupidity: Have you ever been stuck on the highway bumper-to -bumper gridlock? Ever have an emergency vehicle come up from behind who is ALSO stuck in that same traffic?

Well, you gotta move for them right? In total highway bumper-to-bumper gridlock? Not easy and takes a while right?

But hey, like you said: "Every second counts" so hurry up and make those thousands of cars get out of the way yourself! :^)

You see how easy it is to throw your own bullshit back at you?

    parent root
    0 points ostrichfood

Fake scenarios? Yea, because no one has ever had a medical emergency…also everyone wants to wait for 45minutes because the lazy tow trucker driver wants to take easy way and block the exist rather then the hard way and not block the exist…. (I can match your energy too, my guy) …YOU ARE THE KAREN…the hypocrisy is crazy…just reread your 4th paragraph in your initial comment.

There is a reason why people cannot legally just block exists for their convenience while inconveniencing everyone else. If they do, they usually have cops come over to direct traffic.

You know that most if not all emergency vehicles drive on the shoulder in the highway if it’s gridlocked…right or they get off the highway. If it was gridlocked and no shoulder to drive on…where would the drivers go?

Let’s have no empathy for the drivers that have to sit there for 45mins so the tow trucker drivers take the easy way out. See how easy it is to throw back your bs back at you. If you cannot do the job legally, let another guy who can

    parent root
    0 points Orca_Mayo

From what I'm seeing, there are no managers here to cry to Karen.

    parent root
    -1 points Orca_Mayo

Or maybe, just maybe stop making up fake scenarios that didn't happen and show empathy to the guy who's car broke down and need to spends a lot of money to get it out of the way and to a mechanic.

Edit: Stop acting like a Karen, You Karen. Like I literally said above: "If there is an emergency, then it would be a justifiable reason to move"

I never said "because we are better than you". **you** made that up in your mind so you can play the victim by painting a target on yourself.

So, sorry if a tow Truck doing it's job by removing a car that is an active road hazard prevents you from getting your morning Starbucks.

We'll just leave broken down cars where they are next time it happens and let people PUSH their cars where they need to be, I hope you'll be there to help push!

I see two ways out and both curbs can easily be hopped.

    parent
  • 1 points QenefGomari

How many of those waiting were driving SUVs or trucks? Most cars could even hop that curb to get out.

    parent
  • 1 points dark_places

Why are you sitting there for 45 minutes? I would've hopped that curb after 2-3 minutes max, have no patience for people doing stupid shit.

Just go up the curb and through the grass

    parent
  • 1 points roughlyround

arg, this is a great peeve. It's not hard to be considerate and still get the job done. This goes for emergency responders especially.

    parent
  • 1 points dick_ddastardly

You could safely exit to the left behind him using the ramp and angling off the curb.

    Zero risk of vehicle damage

  • 1 points Zealousideal_Bet2320

I would’ve pick out that stake at the corner of park space and drive thru it

    parent
  • 1 points Cobra288

Okay as a tow truck driver, sometimes straight on to the drive wheels is the best way to do it. (In this case the van is fwd/awd) It won't always roll, especially newer or hybrid/electric vehicles. Or you can't always steer. This one appears to be wrecked in the front quarter if you zoom in and the wheels are turned pretty sharply, I can't see that being intentional. My guess it was wrecked, possible damaged steering, or the CV got knocked out and that tires nothing better than a limp rubber stop. Now in my state unless it a police rotation your liable for additional damaged loading, I don't see cops in your photo. I would take my time too, I'll admit 45 minutes is a little long and you could be exaggerating a bit, but all the same I'd like to see how long it takes you to do it. It's not always quick and we don't want to be working in the middle of a bunch of pissed off people either. You don't call us because things are going the way they should. Have some compassion and take that 45 minutes and breathe.

    0 points RainbowUnicorn0228

Yeah, fuck you buddy. Those kinds of tows should be done at the least busy time so as to not block others. If I had to pick my kids up at school and could not just chill for 45mins, I would be suing your company. Tow these cars at 3am if the only way it can be towed is by blocking the exit!!! I don’t give a flying fuck about what is easiest for you and your stupid truck. The car isn’t going anywhere and isn’t broke down in some dangerous place like the middle of the road requiring an immediate tow. Just let it wait until a time when nobody is coming and going.

    parent
  • 0 points IGotYouFlours

Send this picture to the tow company. They probably won't fire him, but maybe his boss will ask what the fuck he was thinking, and he'll do better next time.

Even brand new cars break down, so this is a dumb take lol

    parent root
    1 points Anbucleric

I've always found it interesting how society has come to irrationally believe that it's an object's fault for breaking, not human miss-use or negligence.

    parent root
    1 points UNAS-2-B

Your argument that cars only break down because of neglect is misguided and wrong.

    parent root
    1 points Anbucleric

You clearly have your opinions and I clearly have mine, and since neither of us are going to take the time to post unbiased data to corroborate our opinions we're at an impasse...

    parent root
    1 points UNAS-2-B

since neither of us are going to take the time to post unbiased data to corroborate our opinions we're at an impasse

We don't need a data source to realize that your opinion is wrong, since like I said, brand new cars break down all the time. This has nothing to do with neglect on the owners side.

  • -3 points FinalPercentage9916

When your car breaks down, you don't get a choice, and when it gets towed, the driver has to go to where the car is. It's like saying you did not think hard enough before parking in a parking lot that was going to get blocked off.

    parent
    2 points Ok_Spell_4165

Could push it to a more convenient spot.

    parent root
  • 0 points Possible-Tangelo9344

That's insanity. It should take maybe 15 minutes tops, that's if they strap it all the way down while they're there. Normally they'll load it up and move out of the way to secure it the rest of the way from my experience.

  • -5 points random8765309
