Nah, the black one is awesome and gets to be front and centre on the worktop. The white one is hidden away in the cupboard and is only let out for special occasions.
Yes, considering I keep my salt in a salt cellar. If I bought a set like in the image, I’d end up throwing the salt grinder or shaker into a cabinet and forgetting it exists until I move out.
You can buy individual pieces in the spice section of a grocery store. op is at the kitchen gadgets section of whatever store that display the salt/pepper sets. Op is just in the wrong section or wrong store.
I can understand OP wanting an actual reusable, nice-looking pepper mill rather than one of those McCormick ones though. Not at all bashing anyone who uses those, they’re pretty convenient and get the job done, just saying they’re not for everyone.
I've never seen a reusable grinder in the spice aisle. They either don't let you take the lid off, or the mechanism is plastic and not safe for long-term use.
OK that’s pretty funny lol. And I’m apparently willing to try any horribly inefficient thing in the kitchen at least once considering I once ground up a stick of cinnamon in a mortar and pestle cause I wanted French toast and was too lazy to drive to the store to buy some ground cinnamon. Took ages and ended up still having bits of intact bark in my toast lmao.
I have autoimmune arthritis that attacks the hand joints and the electric grinders are a necessity for me at this point. My mom got me a cheap one (probably from Alibaba) and it’s lasted me about 4 years, it also has a little flashlight on it lmao. Although I do miss feeling dramatic and skillful while loudly using a regular grinder to season my cooking.
I mean, I understand if folks think they're more comfortable or need them for mobility reasons, but the one time I used an electric grinder at a friend's house was super frustrating. I needed to pepper a giant pot of soup, so I needed a fair amount. I had to sit there for a full minute listening to it to "wrrrrggrrrrgghwwwerrrrrweeeeeerrrgh" while it spits out a light dusting of pepper.
Something that would have taken me a few swift twists of the wrist otherwise.
Wouldn’t the herbs clog the grinder due to how lightweight they are? I’ve never tried this idea but it’s the first thing that comes to mind if I did it.
Lmao. Truth. Go get a cheap plastic disposable from that aisle then use it forever. In college I'd fill those with cool ranch Doritos and other random snack chips. I'm old now and that would probably give me a hangover but still was awesome.
went to walmart for compressed air the other day to clean up my pc. they only come in packs of two for $16. so i can pay an extra $8 for one to sit and rot in my attic for the next 3 years 👍
Not the OP, but I live in an area where we only have aldi, Walmart and Kroger. It's a 15 to 20 min drive to any of them from my house, if you need another store, add another 20 to 30 min or more.
Cheap terrible pepper grinders suck. They're inconsistent, they usually give you a lot of metal until they wear down, they get clogged, sometimes to the point of breaking.
You can get a seriously quality pepper grinder for $20 on Amazon.
I find it much faster than using a pepper mill/grinder, albeit my mortar and pestle is pretty hefty. Toss some peppercorns in, grind for maybe 5 seconds, get far more than what 5 seconds of carpal tunnel twisting would provide.
There's a divide in how it's used. Some use it as a reward/punishment in relation to their views and others use it as a relevance indicator for comments in the conversation as a whole regardless of their view.
I had the same issue when I accidentally rusted my salt shaker and wanted to only replace the salt shaker. I ended up just buying a set and getting rid of the extra shaker but I found it super annoying
Can you buy one from the super market? We have these ones for like $4 USD here, prefilled with pepper (or salt). They're glass with a ceramic grinder.
These mother fucking cheap meant-to-be-thrown-away things are better than the $100+ set of Peugeot fuckers we bought. Those things're absolutely useless.
Just reminded me that I need an electric pepper grinder (I think fresh cracked pepper is better, and I hate having to grind it up manually when I make jerky, cause it takes a LOT. Even a mortar & pestle takes too damn long and too much work).
EDIT: Just realized I could use my coffee grinder... I don't really drink coffee anymore, anyway.
Go to grocery section and buy the 2 pack glass bottles with the pink Himalayan salt and pepper shaker set $5 . And refill it as needed . They are even grain size adjustable .
Wouldn't buy those cheap (even though sold for tons of money here apparently lol) grinders anymore. They're just not worth me wasting my money on them. Don't know how many I've burned through over the years and their grinding is always crap.
Bought a pepper grinder from Peugeot and I just love it. Bought the model that has a larger handle so it's easier to use. Can grind a ton of pepper without breaking a sweat. And it just works and works.
It's kinda given they come in a pair but still understand the frustration. Look at it this way now you can finally upgrade that old shabby salt Shaker.
This is why I buy the peppercorns in the jar w the grinder I know it's aesthetically not as pleasing but I try to be as minimal as possible and keep my spices in a cupboard vs out on display
Don't get those silver pieces of shit on the right side, they fucking break within a couple months at most. Walmart sells them under a different brand, and I've had two sets break.
Go to spice section of the grocery store. McCormick makes a refillable glass pepper grinder (salt too) for like $2 and change at Walmart, maybe a couple more dollars other places. It has adjustable grinder settings and it’s so cheap that it’s not a big deal if someone breaks it.
Just find a restaurant supply, I bought a large solid wood pepper grinder for $20. I wasn’t willing to spend over $100 for something comparable at regular kitchen stores.
Fun thing about this . Got a grinder set at Sam’s with kosher salt and peppercorns. Unable to find salt that is large enough to not just fall right through after filling it. No matter how coarse the packages at Walmart claim they are none work. Mom gave me some bag of the pink “Himalayan” salt but not sure where she got it. Ran out and now I have an empty grinder again
We sell both separately. When we’re low on inventory, it means we’re at like 80/20% salt to pepper. Makes sense from a retail standpoint to make people take both, although mildly infuriating for the consumer. It’s worse when they want only the pepper grinder and the last three they pick up are just salt.
We ran into a similar problem. We bought a pepper grinder, but all the whole kernel pepper We could find locally was packaged in its own disposable and sealed pepper grinder.
Now you can have 2 pepper grinders.
What a nerd not understanding that everyone else has 2 pepper grinders.
I actually do. I have one for black pepper and a smaller one for white pepper.
Bro is segregating the spice rack.
They’re separate but equal grinders. 😜
Nah, the black one is awesome and gets to be front and centre on the worktop. The white one is hidden away in the cupboard and is only let out for special occasions.
No, he literally just said one is bigger than the other. 2 separate lines, 2 separate washrooms.
I do the same, the black one is only about 3/5 the size of the white one though.
The grinder she told you not to worry about...
I have to admit I use white pepper like maybe once a year if that.
I have three why don’t you have one for Sichuan pepper
It's not a bad thing. I like to have one that stays on the table, and another in the kitchen for cooking.
Just use the spare for coarse kosher salt.
He would have 1 pepper grinder. He would have 2 salt grinders. Not to be that guy.
You found 4 of them.
Do you want the salt grinder?
The whole point of this is so you get matching sets. If you just want one that has pepper go to the seasoning aisle and you will find them.
Yup, or somewhere like TJMaxx - they have a fair offering of misc kitchen stuff too
Yeah I’m with this person, you really wanna be out here with mismatch salt and pepper shakers???
Yes, considering I keep my salt in a salt cellar. If I bought a set like in the image, I’d end up throwing the salt grinder or shaker into a cabinet and forgetting it exists until I move out.
TIL what a salt cellar is.
I was imagining you ducking down some stone steps into a subterrean basement and shoveling your mounds of salt.
I thought, who needs that much salt?
A salt cellar is really handy to have if you cook a lot, and I frankly prefer it for table use too.
That said, it's not exactly a common thing, nowadays, so it makes sense you hadn't heard of one.
Exactly my reaction when I learned the name for those lol
You have two pepper grinders then, just empty the salt one
Would be cool to have a grinder for something other than pepper, I just don’t know what.
It would be horribly inefficient but could it be used for grinding coffee beans?
OK that’s pretty funny lol. And I’m apparently willing to try any horribly inefficient thing in the kitchen at least once considering I once ground up a stick of cinnamon in a mortar and pestle cause I wanted French toast and was too lazy to drive to the store to buy some ground cinnamon. Took ages and ended up still having bits of intact bark in my toast lmao.
Well you wouldn’t grind if in a cellar, right?
My salt is in the pepper shaker. Don’t be this person. Aka me.
how else do you not mistake the salt and pepper?
Tbf I don’t even own salt and pepper shakers. I just use the things from the seasoning aisle
Exactly, McCormick adjustable ones ftw!
Imagine the embarrassment if you have guests over for dinner and you put unmatched salt and pepper grinders on the table.
Go to the spice aisle. Plenty of small pepper grinders.
Take the salt out and buy a different peppercorn
As long as the salt one isn’t different somehow, that peppercorn medley is slammin’, good suggestion
Buy the set of 2 normal use it as your pepper grinder and have a backup if it ever gets corroded or the motor dies.
Le Creuset has single pepper grinders. I bought the salt one too for the table, but similarly I use a salt crock for cooking
If you went to the seasoning section you'd find singles. You're in department 14 lol you need to be on the grocery side, not kitchen wares 🤓
Open two boxes. The next guy gets double salt. Problem solved.
Grocery stores sell some in the spicy section full of pepper
You need to be in the seasoning isle then. This is the kitchenware section for matching ones, that includes the product (salt/pepper).
Or just buy from Amazon and get delivered today lol (my Amazon says delivers today 10am-3pm for a pepper shaker)
It gives you a back up
$1.25 at Dollar Tree
8 of them really
10*
Don't get electric ones. Just go buy a manual magnum grinder. It will easily last you 20 years with heavy use.
The electric ones are so nice though....
Something that would have taken me a few swift twists of the wrist otherwise.
electric ones i had broke after a year. atleast w the manual i know it wont break
I like that I can use the electric ones one handed though🤷♀️
There are times where one hand is dirty and you need to season with one clean hand. Exactly why i want an electric one too!
Whoops. I dropped the monster salt that I use for my magnum grinder
Use the second grinder for something else is always an option. Either for herbs or a different type of salt/pepper.
Wouldn’t the herbs clog the grinder due to how lightweight they are? I’ve never tried this idea but it’s the first thing that comes to mind if I did it.
Depends on the herb. Pepper can be considered a spice since it's a dried fruit, or an herb with medicinal uses
Well if I was to use a grinder for herbs I’d think of herbs such as basil or parsley.
I choose whole coriander!
Go to the spice aisle ya dummy.
Lmao. Truth. Go get a cheap plastic disposable from that aisle then use it forever. In college I'd fill those with cool ranch Doritos and other random snack chips. I'm old now and that would probably give me a hangover but still was awesome.
RUNNING to go do this with takis thanks so much for the idea
I had a set. Salt and pepper grinder Pepper grinder broke. Now I have a white pepper grinder. Still works 😁
You need a pepper cannon.
Do not mess with ying and yang
It's Yin and Yang
Do not mess with ying and yang
Do not mess with Ying and Yan
Do yang mess not with and yin.
Do not mess with ying and yang
Ying yang we done did it again
Buy a coffee grinder and only use pepper
went to walmart for compressed air the other day to clean up my pc. they only come in packs of two for $16. so i can pay an extra $8 for one to sit and rot in my attic for the next 3 years 👍
My good man - you can always order a single pepper grinder on Amazon. At least I suppose, I always buy them together.
Regards 🫘
How often are you buying sets of pepper and salt grinders. I’ve had a pepper grinder for about 10 years and I cook a lot
The Unicorn Pepper Mill is excellent. Feels like a buy-it-for-life purchase to me
Is that the only store on your entire town or?
Not the OP, but I live in an area where we only have aldi, Walmart and Kroger. It's a 15 to 20 min drive to any of them from my house, if you need another store, add another 20 to 30 min or more.
It was the only one I was in at that moment. This was certainly at the milder end of mildly infuriating.
I wish I had some of y'all problems
Personally I would order one regardless.
Cheap terrible pepper grinders suck. They're inconsistent, they usually give you a lot of metal until they wear down, they get clogged, sometimes to the point of breaking.
You can get a seriously quality pepper grinder for $20 on Amazon.
“Israel” is committing genocide
Here's mine. It really sets the tone when guests come over for dinner.

Now I know wut I want for Christmas lol
Edit to add: For $26!? I'm getting 2! Thanks for the idea
Peugeot makes the best pepper mill. Lifetime warranty. Worth it
Go to the spice and baking section homie
Run down to the spice isle, they will have a cheap pre-filled one. If you want to use YOUR pepper find one you can open and dump theirs.
If you go to the spice aisle they sell just the pepper grinders there. Bonus it comes with pepper!
Wrong store.
Go online and spend 50 bucks in a decent one. It seems steep on price but it will change your pepper grinding life.
Gift the salt grinder to someone with high blood pressure
Amazon
I just use a mortar and pestle and fresh grind whole peppercorns. A simple, yet useful tool.
I worked somewhere that we prepared our pepper like this. We were just making eggs with it.
I find it much faster than using a pepper mill/grinder, albeit my mortar and pestle is pretty hefty. Toss some peppercorns in, grind for maybe 5 seconds, get far more than what 5 seconds of carpal tunnel twisting would provide.
lol how was this downvoted twice…
because there's a technique to not spilling them out while grinding and people have had bad experiences before learning it.
So people downvote because they’re upset they’re inexperienced at using a tool lol?
That would be my guess.
There's a divide in how it's used. Some use it as a reward/punishment in relation to their views and others use it as a relevance indicator for comments in the conversation as a whole regardless of their view.
Cause it’s not a solution for ground pepper.
Smash em with rocks like a caveman
https://www.target.com/p/oxo-softworks-pepper-grinder/-/A-13557789
Op is at Walmart & they definitely have single pepper mills
Oddly enough, this is also a new guide on Tinder for males posts.
Who tricked the youngsters into thinking they need to grind salt?
When they started selling salt that needed grinding (you can also controll how fine or coarse the grind is much like a pepper mill)
Thrift stores 😊
So you don’t like having choices? Pick one and move on
Universe requires balance!
An electric pepper grinder was the best $20 purchase I ever made
Gravity grinders are the way to go
The electric ones are pretty cool
I bought a little crank manual coffee grinder for cheap, that turned out to be the best pepper grinder I ever had. Get ceramic blades.
Just go on to Amazon, there's a bunch of them on there.
Manual crank pepper grinders are the best. High output grinders make life so much easier. Look for the ones that have a metal/ball handle
Have you tried the Kamenstein brand? They’re hard to find, tho!
Guessing OP also needs a grinder to grind pepper he/she already owns, not a grinder that's already full of pepper...
I had the same issue when I accidentally rusted my salt shaker and wanted to only replace the salt shaker. I ended up just buying a set and getting rid of the extra shaker but I found it super annoying

Himalayan sea salt is a good thing to put in the other grinder if you’re happy with your salt
Peugeot. You’re welcome.
But it’s elite
Sure you do, we call them "spice" grinders..head to your local head shop
Tj maxx or Ross can be great to find things like only cheap pepper grinder.
What’s everyone’s problem with just wanting a single one? 😅
Pssst…go to the spice aisle in grocery
-the store
go to the spice section and get one that already has pepper in it.
Standalone from Amazon
Wouldn't buy those cheap (even though sold for tons of money here apparently lol) grinders anymore. They're just not worth me wasting my money on them. Don't know how many I've burned through over the years and their grinding is always crap.

5$ to make 50$ to buy
Salt grinders absolutely suck.
Trader joes has them
So you want unmatching grinders? Psychotic...
Go to the condiment aisle, they have salt and pepper grinders there. 💀
They sell singles in the spice section.
Go to a thrift store.
As an aside, I wonder if those digital price tags ever get adjusted lower. 🤔
This is why I buy the peppercorns in the jar w the grinder I know it's aesthetically not as pleasing but I try to be as minimal as possible and keep my spices in a cupboard vs out on display
You better keep it down or you'll be an a salt victim.
You’re on the wrong aisle… go to spices/baking aisle
Funny I wanted salt and pepper and I bought a pair of cheap ones without realizing they were both salt.
Nope. You must buy a salt grinder that will be clogged with fine salt crystals within 3 months
Don't get those silver pieces of shit on the right side, they fucking break within a couple months at most. Walmart sells them under a different brand, and I've had two sets break.
Or go buy a Puegeot pepper grinder online. It's a way better quality piece of kit over anything in your pic.
Buy the Unicorn Magnum pepper grinder online! It’s by far the best one available
This doesn’t look like the slice aisle.
The electric ones are ass
They literally sell them at the dollar store!
Order this one, you will love it.
They usually come with the pepper from the spice aisle.
Just order the pepper cannon.
Whatever you do don’t pick one that has any plastic in it. Found out the hard way that plastic winds up in your pepper lol
I use a mortar
Tjmaxx my guy!
Check with the spices
I have one you can have.
Why not a mortal and pastel instead of a grinder?
Go to spice section of the grocery store. McCormick makes a refillable glass pepper grinder (salt too) for like $2 and change at Walmart, maybe a couple more dollars other places. It has adjustable grinder settings and it’s so cheap that it’s not a big deal if someone breaks it.
Go to the seasoning aisle. You can buy just pepper in a grinder and peel off the sticker.
Just find a restaurant supply, I bought a large solid wood pepper grinder for $20. I wasn’t willing to spend over $100 for something comparable at regular kitchen stores.
May I recommend this one? It’s a great pepper mill.
https://us.peugeot-saveurs.com/en_us/47948-vd8-paris-uselect-manual-pepper-mill-in-wood-uselect-blue-gloss-18-cm-7-in.html
Find a Peugeot! Mine is cast iron, and is the most reliable pepper mill I have ever used.
Go to Marshalls or home goods, bc those prices are not it with this economy
McCormick sells pepper grinders in the seasoning section but im not sure how refillable they are
Do you live near an ikea?
IKEA sells basic grinders that work pretty well
Fun thing about this .

Makes sense from a retail standpoint to make people take both, although mildly infuriating for the consumer. It’s worse when they want only the pepper grinder and the last three they pick up are just salt.
FYI: easy way to remember which is which…. “pepper protrudes!” The pepper mechanism sticks out on the bottom, salt grinders are flat/flush
Order a Peugeot and call it a day.
Do you live near a Target? I got the Magnolia copper handle type pepper grinder a year ago from there and I love it.
That’s capitalism.
We’re a step away from an AI grinder now
kitchen section, should be a bread knife nearby that will make quick work of cardboard
"Its got Bluetooth!"
F'ck'offffffff!
If it doesn't weird you out, thrift it. The kitchen part of thrift shops is always overloaded with the most random.
Then you need a kitchen ware shop rather than what (I’m assuming) looks like a supermarket.
Gotta shop online then
I found a great single classic pepper mill at a local antique store for 5 bucks. Try there.
We ran into a similar problem. We bought a pepper grinder, but all the whole kernel pepper We could find locally was packaged in its own disposable and sealed pepper grinder.
This is why I hate buying items besides groceries or medicine in store now.
you can throw the salt grinder at whoever thought this was a good idea
Having options is infuriating?
