I just need a pepper grinder.

Now you can have 2 pepper grinders.

    parent
    267 points Kromting

What a nerd not understanding that everyone else has 2 pepper grinders.

    parent root
    98 points ResolveResident118

I actually do. I have one for black pepper and a smaller one for white pepper.

    parent root
    166 points CrotaIsAShota

Bro is segregating the spice rack.

    parent root
    78 points HalfBlindKing

They’re separate but equal grinders. 😜

    parent root
    25 points ResolveResident118

Nah, the black one is awesome and gets to be front and centre on the worktop. The white one is hidden away in the cupboard and is only let out for special occasions.

    parent root
    7 points Legonistrasz

No, he literally just said one is bigger than the other. 2 separate lines, 2 separate washrooms.

    parent root
    1 points killermike420

I do the same, the black one is only about 3/5 the size of the white one though.

    parent root
    8 points DarthCheez

The grinder she told you not to worry about...

    parent root
    27 points mcampo84

    parent root
    1 points JD_tubeguy

I have to admit I use white pepper like maybe once a year if that.

    parent root
    1 points FrankLangellasBalls

I have three why don’t you have one for Sichuan pepper

    parent root
    11 points fatmanstan123

It's not a bad thing. I like to have one that stays on the table, and another in the kitchen for cooking.

    parent root
    3 points Prickly_ninja

Just use the spare for coarse kosher salt.

    parent root
    1 points DoubleDumpsterFire

He would have 1 pepper grinder. He would have 2 salt grinders. Not to be that guy.

    parent root
  • 913 points Sweet_Speech_9054

    You found 4 of them.

    parent
    224 points MaeBelleLien

Do you want the salt grinder?

    parent root
    437 points No-Control6483

The whole point of this is so you get matching sets. If you just want one that has pepper go to the seasoning aisle and you will find them.

    parent root
    109 points 0wninat0r

Yup, or somewhere like TJMaxx - they have a fair offering of misc kitchen stuff too

    parent root
    151 points tokyo_driftr

Yeah I’m with this person, you really wanna be out here with mismatch salt and pepper shakers???

    parent root
    36 points Mikeologyy

Yes, considering I keep my salt in a salt cellar. If I bought a set like in the image, I’d end up throwing the salt grinder or shaker into a cabinet and forgetting it exists until I move out.

    parent root
    76 points RBXXIII

TIL what a salt cellar is.

I was imagining you ducking down some stone steps into a subterrean basement and shoveling your mounds of salt.

I thought, who needs that much salt?

    parent root
    4 points PraxicalExperience

A salt cellar is really handy to have if you cook a lot, and I frankly prefer it for table use too.

That said, it's not exactly a common thing, nowadays, so it makes sense you hadn't heard of one.

    parent root
    1 points Mikeologyy

Exactly my reaction when I learned the name for those lol

    parent root
    14 points JK_NC

You can buy individual pieces in the spice section of a grocery store. op is at the kitchen gadgets section of whatever store that display the salt/pepper sets. Op is just in the wrong section or wrong store.

    parent root
    2 points Mikeologyy

I can understand OP wanting an actual reusable, nice-looking pepper mill rather than one of those McCormick ones though. Not at all bashing anyone who uses those, they’re pretty convenient and get the job done, just saying they’re not for everyone.

    parent root
    1 points illiter-it

I've never seen a reusable grinder in the spice aisle. They either don't let you take the lid off, or the mechanism is plastic and not safe for long-term use.

    parent root
    6 points Sure_Presence_3229

You have two pepper grinders then, just empty the salt one

    parent root
    1 points Mikeologyy

Would be cool to have a grinder for something other than pepper, I just don’t know what.

    parent root
    2 points corkscrewfork

It would be horribly inefficient but could it be used for grinding coffee beans?

    parent root
    2 points Mikeologyy

OK that’s pretty funny lol. And I’m apparently willing to try any horribly inefficient thing in the kitchen at least once considering I once ground up a stick of cinnamon in a mortar and pestle cause I wanted French toast and was too lazy to drive to the store to buy some ground cinnamon. Took ages and ended up still having bits of intact bark in my toast lmao.

    parent root
    1 points r15km4tr1x

Well you wouldn’t grind if in a cellar, right?

    parent root
    6 points FR4GN4B1T

My salt is in the pepper shaker. Don’t be this person. Aka me.

    parent root
    1 points Zech08

how else do you not mistake the salt and pepper?

    parent root
    1 points creed_1

Tbf I don’t even own salt and pepper shakers. I just use the things from the seasoning aisle

    parent root
    5 points Depressed_peacock1

    Exactly, McCormick adjustable ones ftw!

    parent root
    3 points warrenjr527

Imagine the embarrassment if you have guests over for dinner and you put unmatched salt and pepper grinders on the table.

    parent root
    10 points barkandmoone

Go to the spice aisle. Plenty of small pepper grinders.

    parent root
    8 points Designer-Ad-7844

Take the salt out and buy a different peppercorn

    parent root
    4 points HalfBlindKing

As long as the salt one isn’t different somehow, that peppercorn medley is slammin’, good suggestion

    parent root
    9 points itsme99881

Buy the set of 2 normal use it as your pepper grinder and have a backup if it ever gets corroded or the motor dies.

    parent root
    2 points THE_GREAT_PICKLE

Le Creuset has single pepper grinders. I bought the salt one too for the table, but similarly I use a salt crock for cooking

    parent root
    2 points TheAggressiveSloth

If you went to the seasoning section you'd find singles. You're in department 14 lol you need to be on the grocery side, not kitchen wares 🤓

    parent root
    1 points talabro

Open two boxes. The next guy gets double salt. Problem solved.

    parent root
    1 points greeneyeraven

Grocery stores sell some in the spicy section full of pepper

    parent root
    1 points twaggle

You need to be in the seasoning isle then. This is the kitchenware section for matching ones, that includes the product (salt/pepper).

Or just buy from Amazon and get delivered today lol (my Amazon says delivers today 10am-3pm for a pepper shaker)

Don't get electric ones. Just go buy a manual magnum grinder. It will easily last you 20 years with heavy use.

    parent
    22 points Self-described

I have autoimmune arthritis that attacks the hand joints and the electric grinders are a necessity for me at this point. My mom got me a cheap one (probably from Alibaba) and it’s lasted me about 4 years, it also has a little flashlight on it lmao. Although I do miss feeling dramatic and skillful while loudly using a regular grinder to season my cooking.

    parent root
    14 points moguy1973

The electric ones are so nice though....

    parent root
    3 points DiegesisThesis

I mean, I understand if folks think they're more comfortable or need them for mobility reasons, but the one time I used an electric grinder at a friend's house was super frustrating. I needed to pepper a giant pot of soup, so I needed a fair amount. I had to sit there for a full minute listening to it to "wrrrrggrrrrgghwwwerrrrrweeeeeerrrgh" while it spits out a light dusting of pepper.

Something that would have taken me a few swift twists of the wrist otherwise.

    parent root
    1 points Achilles-Foot

electric ones i had broke after a year. atleast w the manual i know it wont break

    parent root
    4 points Moglo825

I like that I can use the electric ones one handed though🤷‍♀️

    parent root
    1 points sLim901

There are times where one hand is dirty and you need to season with one clean hand. Exactly why i want an electric one too!

    parent root
    1 points Wrongun25

Whoops. I dropped the monster salt that I use for my magnum grinder

    parent root
  • 122 points DyrreWolf

Use the second grinder for something else is always an option. Either for herbs or a different type of salt/pepper.

    parent
    31 points OoshmaGB

Wouldn’t the herbs clog the grinder due to how lightweight they are? I’ve never tried this idea but it’s the first thing that comes to mind if I did it.

    parent root
    19 points MightySamMcClain

Depends on the herb. Pepper can be considered a spice since it's a dried fruit, or an herb with medicinal uses

    parent root
    2 points OoshmaGB

Well if I was to use a grinder for herbs I’d think of herbs such as basil or parsley.

    parent root
    4 points akarakitari

    I choose whole coriander!

Not the OP, but I live in an area where we only have aldi, Walmart and Kroger. It's a 15 to 20 min drive to any of them from my house, if you need another store,  add another 20 to 30 min or more.

    parent root
    1 points Cidergregg

I find it much faster than using a pepper mill/grinder, albeit my mortar and pestle is pretty hefty.  Toss some peppercorns in, grind for maybe 5 seconds, get far more than what 5 seconds of carpal tunnel twisting would provide.

Go to Marshalls or home goods, bc those prices are not it with this economy

Do you live near an ikea?

IKEA sells basic grinders that work pretty well

Fun thing about this . Got a grinder set at Sam’s with kosher salt and peppercorns. Unable to find salt that is large enough to not just fall right through after filling it. No matter how coarse the packages at Walmart claim they are none work. Mom gave me some bag of the pink “Himalayan” salt but not sure where she got it. Ran out and now I have an empty grinder again

We sell both separately. When we’re low on inventory, it means we’re at like 80/20% salt to pepper. Makes sense from a retail standpoint to make people take both, although mildly infuriating for the consumer. It’s worse when they want only the pepper grinder and the last three they pick up are just salt.

FYI: easy way to remember which is which…. “pepper protrudes!” The pepper mechanism sticks out on the bottom, salt grinders are flat/flush

Do you live near a Target? I got the Magnolia copper handle type pepper grinder a year ago from there and I love it.

If it doesn't weird you out, thrift it. The kitchen part of thrift shops is always overloaded with the most random.

Then you need a kitchen ware shop rather than what (I’m assuming) looks like a supermarket.

    Gotta shop online then

I found a great single classic pepper mill at a local antique store for 5 bucks. Try there.

We ran into a similar problem. We bought a pepper grinder, but all the whole kernel pepper We could find locally was packaged in its own disposable and sealed pepper grinder.
