Same thing with "white hands". I think the weirdest place I read that was The Hunchback of Notre Dame, considering Esmeralda was tan otherwise. She just had these Mickey Mouse mitts, I suppose.
Itās not just the Russians. Plenty from overseas in USA too.
The average American womenās foot size is 8.5-9.
Yet it seems like every fiction woman has size 6 feet no matter their height. Iāve only met two women that had that size and they were both petite below 4ā8.
That was an exceptional read. It's been true for so long, the insane machinations writers undertake to make a heroine both powerful and petite. God forbid an imposing woman exist.
And if authors mention a womanās hands being small, they never mention the actual practical advantages of small hands, their hands are just for decorative purposes.
The one reference to small hands I like is in veterinarian James Herriotās books where he says how happy he is he has āsmall lady fingersā because it makes it easier for him to help sheep and other animals deliver their babies.
Not gonna lie, ears were not what I expected when reading about what body part men would be insecure about in regards to hands, but I'm here for it LOL
I have always hated small hands and feet being desirable because Iāve worn size 10 shoes and been able to palm a basketball since I was like 14. I remember reading some trashy romance novel in high school that described the heroineās hand as not even fitting around her love interestāsā¦ahemā¦memberā¦and just staring down at my own hand thinking Jesus that CANNOT be how big those things are
Dear u/ArmadilloFour, the readers agree, this man has written a woman badly!

MICKEY MOUSE MITTS I CANT
Farmers Tan but make it weird
I was gonna say, Russian novelists always seemed to make the heroine have small feet for some reason?
Pittar patter of little feet , sometimes it's women, sometimes it's rats š
Or centipedes

It's the only actually universal beauty standard I can find: tiny feet on women. No culture that ever mentions a woman's feet ever wants them big.

The āfind a different body part to obsess about!ā bit at the end is some monkeyās paw shit, huh.

Behold: the peak of 19th century beauty.
I love this skit series. And she finds true love at the end iirc.
She looks like a mannequin š

While reading this, I was reminded of current media jeering Cynthia Erivo's hands for being too large.

Because it's silly to write that she balanced well-proprtionedly down the stairs.

I suspect that the writer was hinting that heroines with bigger hands might use them to box their annoying husbands' ears.
That was also my impression, but then what does the comment about wigs mean?
cover up them ears!
Iām 90% sure that was a euphemism in the same way that any mention of washing feet in the bible is a euphemism š
Youāre joking?? It is??
Oh, it is. Plenty of brotherly lovinā in that one.
i can buy that it's one possible reading but all instances? that sounds too tumblr-pat
Dont forget her slim ankles she inherited from her slim ankled mother. š
Now this is a quality post! Thanks, OP.

The last part šĀ
this is amazing, thank you for sharing. The bit about the wigs and ears killed me š¤£
Men do be weird about hand size
Idk how small hands are attractive. Small hands are hard to function. It almost sounds like a childs hands to me
Men donāt want women to have hands that function practically I guess
