With Free Weekend travel across Victoria this Holiday season, I was wondering if someone could recommend a nice worthwhile day trip out to a far flung region of VIC?
With a young one in tow (< 10), I was thinking a scenic train route, a local produced farmer's market/region, easy walking from the train station, NO bushwalking/hiking and NO riff raff would be good?

I can’t stop laughing at “NO riff raff”.
Yeah, “riff, raff”. 😮. Cross post to r/ballarat they will send them to Sebastopol or Wendouree. Tad rude. Sovereign Hill is fantastic as is Ballarat. Craig’s Hotel and all of downtown Rat is riff raff free /s
Kinda wild elitism on a post asking for advice. I’m sure the locals would have some thoughts on the tourist “riff raff”
There will be riff raff on the free public transport. Just like on the paid public transport. It's in the name. Public.
Bendigo was a good day trip. We did a mine tour and road on the trams (both cost $$).
I second Bendigo, we did the science museum and pottery centre.
Bendigo is great with kids, the art gallery might have some school holidays stuff on too
We enjoyed Bendigo too. Can also get the vline from here to Echuca, or the steam train from nearby Castlemaine, to Maldon.
No riff raff? This member of the riff raff doesn't want toffs. Stay in Briiiiiiighton.
You could go to Castlemaine. It's a short walk from the station to The Mill. It's got a vintage bizarre, food/drinks (including chocolate and icecream), and handmade artist stalls.

Bougie town these days too.
I think Frankston would be the perfect destination for your requirements. Have an ice cream from the 7/11 opposite the train station, and let the locals walk right up to you to offer their high quality locally-produced wares.
Lol
Ahh that last one
Nope can’t help there
Board a flight to Singapore maybe
😂
We had friends from WA stay a few days over Xmas ,their car had electrical trouble & they had to spend 4 days in the city while it got fixed. Rather than just being stuck in the city they went by PT out to Healesville Sanctuary, which l did not even know you could do,you take the train from Lilydale Station & then a bus takes you the rest of the way.
The wife is a career National Parks ranger in WA, involved with their endangered species breeding/protection programs & she was impressed.
You would want to pick days with cooler weather as from memory when we last went years ago it was a easy 1/2 day looking at all the sites & the talks they give .
castlemaine
and Maldon.
Vline train to Castlemaine farmers market. Weekly - 2.30 to 5.30pm on Wednesday at the Camp reserve (beside the railway station). Monthly - 9am to 1pm on the 1st Sunday at the Western reserve about 4 blocks from the railway station. https://castlemainefarmersmarket.org.au/
Catch the train out to Birregurra. Its a delightful rural town on the Warrnambool line. There is a really cool market there on the second Sunday of each month.
Great golf course too.
Train to Bendigo. Science museum walking distance from Bendigo station from my memory.
Morwell has a good market and no riff raff.
Hahaha. I actually loved the Morwell Sunday market, but unfortunately, it has permanently closed. Do you know any other absolute stinkers? They're getting hard to find.
I have a feeling you could be related to the person who kept commenting ‘NONSENSE’ on my comments yesterday.
Regardless - Geelong Waterfront market is first Sunday of the month and is located in close proximity to eastern beach kids pool and the carousel.
15min walk from the station

I'm sorry to inform you, but the entirety of rural Victoria is populated by riff raff. I think you're going to have to travel to another continent to find your solution.
A couple of days in Bendigo, Echuca, swan hill, could all be nice
Serviceton.
Warragul has a farmers market and an arts market every third Saturday of the month.
