Out of curiosity.. what are some of your plans for NYE. Next year February is my third year being here and every NYE I've just been at home doing nothing. I'm not planning on heading into the city or anything I can imagine it'll be a nightmare. Just wanna know what others are doing on NYE. :) Hope you guys have a good one and may 2026 be a fantastic year for you šŸ¤

  • Staying home sharing a cheese platter with my dogs watching 90's movies

Is it weird that I really want to join you? šŸ˜‚

No not at all because it is an ELITE new years eve plan!!! More people need to do it šŸ˜‚

No because I want to know if I can come too.

What movie are we watching this year?

Probably scary movie franchise. Or maybe the trio of bring it on, road trip and euro trip!!!

Love it, Eurotrip is a certified hood classic

Cheese is always the right choice… šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼ + dogs

I'll join you if you want to do a nic cage marathon.

This sounds amazing !! And same with your movie choices.... I will totally be doing much the same thing for NYE!!! no better way

Same, except cats. My sisters might drop by because my birthday is just after midnight. Snacks and my favourite drinks.

  • Every year there is a reddit meetup in the park across from Flinders

lol what about that one year when there was the Reddit orgy?! Allegedly…

I remember hearing about that somewhere, I wonder what it is like.

Oh interesting. How you find out about that

    I read it on reddit

  • I always go to bed early and go for a bike ride at 5-6am the next day an enjoy holding fastest time of the year on multiple segments until other riders start getting home and syncing their Strava.

Cool idea, but January 1st is always my Festive 500 recovery day. Plus, it's looking like it's going to be -13°C or so where I am (aka not Beach Road), and I am not doing that to my to my toes again.

  • If you live near a beach, like StKilda, go to bed early and get up early and walk along the beach at sunrise, have a giggle at the club casualties who haven't been to bed yet

i love being one of those club casualties. fun to see the duality of man.

Been one a few times. I once ended up walking to Brighton with a bunch of retiree power walkers by accident. I had taken my last and it started as a joke and we had a great laugh but I didn’t realise how far I’d gone. And then I jogged back after about 12hrs of dancing. My mates were still there and hadn’t realised I’d gone and didn’t believe me when I returned. Needed a beer after that. Come 2nd of Jan….my legs didn’t work. Good times. But yeah, always a good laugh when trash bags are seen in daylight šŸ‘

A friend walked along StKilda beach really early on Jan 1 2000 and it was mostly backpackers who'd been up all night snogging, sleeping or having dramas. I will always regret missing that, it would've been hilarious.

there will be a few, as Riviera Beach Club have a NYE and NYD events

    This is genius

  • Taking a good dump on NYE. I’m not taking any old shit into 2026.

Wishing you the best, single-wipe shit to end the year with āœØļø

  • Early night then up for New Year’s Day Parkrun!

Ooooh thanks for this heads up for my commute into the cbd for work on NYD.

NYD parkrun doesn’t usually get the crazy numbers of Christmas Day parkrun if it helps

  • I book into a restaurant and have a nice meal. Usually finish about 11pm and then wander the city enjoying the hustle and find somewhere to catch the fireworks.

Isn’t the city feral on new years?

It’s busy, but feral? No. There’s all different crowds, families with young kids, young people just getting started on their night, oldies wandering after a quiet drink. It’s nice. Busy, but nice.

    Love this attitude.

He does it with a raging boner if that colours it differently?

There was an incident 5 or so years ago at Fed Square where things got out of hand. Since then, PTV, Vic Pol, City of Melbourne and so on seem to have really tightened things up. Haven't noticed any feral behaviour get out of hand since then.

Filled with screaming kids and parentsĀ

Not at all. Plenty of nice places around still

Not at all. Plenty of nice places around still

  • Staying home because 1) Bugger going out/paying redicious amount for drinks/the hassle of getting home. 2) Have work the next day so rather make the double time and a half without a hangover.

Probably go to the gym on Nye.

Ohh the gym is a great idea!!

  • I'm seeing a musical in the city with my mum and I'll be home by 9pm to have a chill night in 😊

  • booked a restaurant for me and two mates then we’ll come home and smoke joints and watch the fireworks from my balcony

yall looking for a fourth? lmao

  • i don’t like the crowds and i’m a bit of a loner. the friends that i have will be with their SO. So my plan is to be home, drink, and play games most likely.

  • I used to have epic new years, but I have kids now. We're on holiday so it'll be a quiet night in the country star gazing.

Assuming I make it until midnight.

  • Bed by 10 probably.

  • At midnight I turn on channel 9 after the fireworks and watch don’t stop the music. Traditions are important

    Lmao. So do I.

  • Take in the energy of the nightlife, browse Northcote and Brunswick clubs. God I love this city.

  • Going to When Pigs Fly for a third year in a row - great music, great vibes, highly recommend!

    Sold out. Wtf isthis place?

    Wpf is sooo good!

  • I used to have full on dinner parties with 10-15 people and watch fireworks from my balcony that had a view. Now that I’ve moved from that apartment I’m at a loss as to what to do. I don’t want to struggle in the city and I don’t wanna be bored with fomo if I stay home. Maybe a night down at Brighton beach would be ideal.

  • Staying home.

    This is me also.

I love going to bed before midnight and not feeling like arse when I get up the next morning.

  • I’m away in country Victoria so will just have a chill night in with family in the beautiful house we’re staying at. Watch fireworks on tv and then head off to bed before a lovely winery lunch on New Year’s Day

  • Anyone been to the NYE event at Sea Life Aquarium? GF and I considering it

I might go with a friend! If we end up going we’ll come and say hi šŸŒž

I am going with a friend but the only review I could find online was from 2020 & it said it was very over sold so my expectations are low. We’ll see…

  • šŸ„ at home with my partner āœŒšŸ»

  • I’m always alone so I have decided to just host a bbq and have some friends come over this year (they are all in relationships though) I’ll just be a single guy still but at least I’ll have some company

  • My normal NYE is to stay home, a quiet drink, watch something but I may head out to a friends bbq this year. The (adult) child is off to some festival so I may need to keep myself a little drunk and occupied so I don't stay up all night worrying

  • My friends and I go to the city to one of the lie sites every year. It’s pretty fun to just chill out on a picnic blanket. Everyone thinks it’s a nightmare but the live sites have security/police and are alcohol free, anyone with booze is kicked out, so it’s a family atmosphere

  • Getting shitfaced of margs, watching Heated Rivalry with my book club gals, and gorging ourselves on a taco station.

  • Me and my wife always do things with friends on NYE - we’ve hosted dinner parties, gone to raves all that stuff.

This year - we are gna put some tasty food on, make a picnic in the backyard, take mushies, drink wine. And we are not inviting anyone.

I honestly can’t stop thinking about it.

  • My family and I play switch and old Nintendo/playstation games all night. Racing, fighting and party games.

  • I’m staying at a friend’s place in Ballarat, the three of us are going to get an early night and then volunteer at parkrun together on New Year’s Day. I usually run it for NYD but the other two are injured so volunteering together will be nice!

That sounds really awesome tbh! Love that you’re volunteering together! šŸƒā€ā™€ļø

  • First time in forever just stating home and chilling. Going to see Turnstile on NYD. NYE is overrated. Staying home? Who cares, enjoy yourself.

    Me too! 😁

    Never enough!!!!

  • I’m looking forward to being home before midnight.

  • Soaking in the hot tub

  • Staying at a friends place and watching it on tv, no point battling the crowds for a good vantage point, can get a decent view on tv.

  • Redrafting 2026 manifestations with the gals, bar hopping up smith then home by 11pm

  • I'll be home, I live in the northern suburbs so there's plenty of fireworks here.

  • Goddamit I miss my younger years, in New Zealand we have amazing New Years events in beaching towns in vineyards with huge artists. Fantastic times, best of my life.

These days, two little ones are priority so no real celebration per say, I love seeing others having fun though and enjoying the new year.

  • We always go to our local beach and sit and watch all the fireworks from all around the bay

  • Fuck all šŸ˜‚ gotta work new years day 😭

  • Staying home and looking after all my animals. Making sure they are safe during fireworks

Fireworks are so confusing for animals and dogs in particular.

  • Working again as per every year! Most depressing one was inside a nightclub where we didn't have any windows/balconies and were too busy to celebrate. This year I'm at a new bar with a more relaxed owner so happy to be around my coworkers who I love and hopefully a slightly better view !

  • Someone on this thread is surely organising an orgy.Ā

  • Anywhere but the city, although I would recommend Carlton gardens as it isn’t as busy as flinders and you get a good view

Edinburgh Gardens used to be an unreal atmosphere. Haven’t been in about 8years though.

  • Stay home. Feel depressed. Make sure horses don’t lose their shit over illegal fireworks that will inevitably be set off. Also hope that the illegal fireworks don’t start a grass fire

  • Going to bed to wake up at 1155pm and soothe the dogs whilst fuckwits let off fireworks in my area for an hour or two. Working NYD

  • Typically in bed by 9pm! When you’ve a toddler who wakes at 6am, you got to align your sleeping.

  • Can anyone comment how easy or horrendous taking the trains are after midnight?

Straight after midnight definitely horrendous. Wait until at least 1am or later if you can

Perfect thank you. That works well with my plans. I was thinking of driving but would prefer to let loose a little

    They run all night?

Yes extra services, Flinders and Southern Cross open all night, the other loop stations til 3am. They are expecting half a million this year in the city

  • We stay home now that we’ve finished building our house. We set up a cheese board, have a swim, have a few drinks, maybe put a movie on, then at midnight we wander don to the park at the end of our street and watch the local fireworks.

  • Garn camping in the hills n seshing out

  • Usually don’t do much with young kids but this year we’re going out for dinner with family then coming back to our place for a drink. I doubt it will be a late one. I’ll be fast asleep when it hits midnight šŸ’¤

  • Nice dinner at home then hubby and I are going to the movies.

  • Usually see the early fireworks out with the rest of the crowd but I’m working until 10:30pm NYE and then watching the fireworks from the balcony as usual.

  • Watch the fireworks from elwood/st kilda. Both legal and illegal, its alot of fun. Second NYE in mellyborne

  • Cook a tasty spag bol with a good glass of wine or two that I didn't get to open at Xmas, and then play games or go to bed by 10 when I'm mysteriously tired for no reason other than I don't care for nye anymore and want a good nights sleep.

Haven't gone out since before covid, really hard to get back out there again. Somehow I feel too old for clubs even though I'm only mid to late 30's. Can't muster up the care to go and talk to women and other people. My social skills have taken a hit the last 5 years or so and it was tough enough maintaining a conversation for more than a few minutes in the past anyway.

Gotta stick with what's enjoyable I guess!

  • I’ll be at home watching a movie and reading comic books. Around 11:50pm i’ll walk down to the beach watch the fireworks then proceed with the usual activities of my life. I used to always plan to go out or have people over but now it’s just like any day to me… maybe i’ve become boring.

  • New Year’s Day I make a massive platter and we pick all day and watch the ball drop around the world

  • Usually I have a chill NYE, bed by 10 sorta thing. But this time I'll be child free so actually thinking of coming out of my shell and going to the CBD alone to hit up some dreadful clubs.

If anyone got any suggestions for the CBD lmk

  • Footscray park pits on a good show. If you're near there good to walk around and see a band watch fireworks eat some junk food then head home.

  • just gonna be staying home honestly and playing video games lol

  • New Years is so overrated. I’ll be at home as usual but I also have young kids, so they’ll be asleep and hubby and I will have some quiet time. Probably watch fireworks on TV. On NYD I would love to go for an Ocean swim on the peninsula but you know sometimes that isn’t always possible for us.

  • Staying home with my husband and probably having some homemade pizza, I can’t handle the crowd with the fireworks and parties and pub hopping and what not , not blaming people who do those things in the slightest, just that I’m staying home

  • Going on a date to see the fireworks. Looking forward to it

  • I'm going to Perth with my partner for 3-4 days! I can't wait to finally see Rottnest Island!

  • Watch a movie, hang out with my cat, at 2355 go sit on my balcony like a little gargoyle and watch the city fireworks , in bed by 0030

  • Not to be a downer but fuck all pretty much. But then I’m depressed as shit right now

    You're not alone :)

  • Spaghetti tree Coffee Stroll Fireworks

  • Mope, stay in, have 2, fall back asleep

  • Ever since covid I've enjoyed going to Flagstaff garden for the fireworks.

  • Went 2-3 times to the ā€œbigā€ NYE club events back in the day. Was super expensive admission and always remember them being the worst nights ever. After that, we realised a good pub ordering jugs was way better.

  • Watch fireworks on TV, with a glass of whiskey :)

  • Sunset on the Yarra

  • Staying the hell home. I go an anxious dog so I like to make sure he’s ok, but even if I weren’t I’d sooner burn off all my hair than going into the city on nye. Packed hot and people on their worst behaviour? No thanks.

  • Negotiating with a toddler to go to sleep before sitting back on my couch and have a glass of wine

  • I’d like to kick back with the boys but I got a cat and I don’t want her to be alone for her first new years

  • Quiet night packing for my first trip to South East Asia.

  • Going to a local park on a hill to watch the 9pm fireworks then home for a movie or similar. Not too fussed if I’m awake at midnight or not

  • Just having a house party with my mates and my partner. Since dating him, we’ve all been meeting up every year for drinks, games and chats :))

  • Hosting a party for about 80 mates that will finish too late. Can't help myself. Love hosting and love any reason for a party. Never regret it.

  • Watching movies with husband and dogs and ice cream lol!!! Won't make it up late ! But will catch a beautiful sunrise the next morning šŸŒ„ āœØļø

  • Going to a friend's house party, probably going to do some things I'll regret šŸ˜…

  • Sober, yummy food, chilling with my sibs, going to watch the fireworks where friends might catch up with us. Bed by 1am. Sweet dreams.

I used to be bummed if I wasn’t partying with a huge group of people, now I love keeping it lowkey and waking up fresh on the first day of the new year.

  • Hey you’re not alone and actually love doing something with somebody if anyone wants to join in the city

  • I always throw a NYE party for my friend group since my balcony has a great view of the city and bay. I'm a regional manager and the lead up to NYE is always hectic, as I purposely don't take leave in order to keep the businesses running whilst the rest of my team take a break. NYE is the one night where I allow myself to let loose and get shitfaced, knowing that I have the next day off, I'm in the comfort of my own home and surrounded by my fave people :)

  • I made a vow to myself I will not spend another new years in melbourne so I always plan a trip away in this period - it’s expensive yes but time is also priceless it’s par for the course i guess

  • Haven't been out in years for NYE - I usually just chill at home and avoid the crazy. I've had a bit of a crappy year last year and was thinking of going out. Any suggestions for a quiet artsy minded person?

  • I wouldn’t be going out on nye in Melbourne after what just happened in Sydney

You can’t avoid mass gatherings after an attack like that, especially not in another city. That’s why they want. Plus it’s become pretty obvious now that Bondi was tragically targeted at a very specific event, in a specific area at specific people. The Melb live sites have a lot of security as well as first aid

I mean, I can and I will. People can do whatever they want. You are free to go if you please

  • Staying home, I’m not a young chicken anymore and can’t stay up past 12 so I’ll be in bed pretty early New Year’s Eve

  • I’m gonna lick the toilet seat of every public toilet in the cbd

  • My mate and I are planning on going to a house party, we were going to go to the city however it’s just too risky.

Edit i’m getting downvoted for no reason, ridiculous!

    Risky in what way?

Risk of being stabbed, it's Melbourne.

Risk of that I don't think is actually that high.

Exactly, I know plenty of people that don’t feel safe in Melbourne.

Oh come on the risk of getting stabbed in Melbourne on NYE is probably a million to one, maybe 50 million to one. Don’t let fear dictate your life like that, otherwise you’re letting the ā€œpeopleā€ that would stab another person win.

I think the risk he/she is referring to is not being able to get in anywhere in time to see the fireworks or a 50 minute wait time at the bar. Enjoy the house party mate.

The last bit is what I was expecting from OP. But was curious to see if it was something else.

Yeah me too. I feel like if you don’t feel safe going out on one of the busiest nights of the year in fucking Melbourne of all places, you’re not going to feel safe in ANY major city. People need to live their lives.

There was another stabbing at a club last night... 50 million to one you reckon? That is pure delusion.

I don’t know the odds. They don’t exist. If you think there’s a genuine risk of you getting stabbed for no reason in Melbourne, on NYE of all nights and that’s what is preventing you from going out into the city, you seriously need to see a therapist. That is not a normal, healthy way of thinking or living. Any certified therapist will tell you the same, they’re not going to encourage you to avoid the CBD because of your heightened perception of danger. You’re probably just as likely to get stabbed at your house party lol.

There was literally another stabbing last night. No idea why I'm being downvoted lol

It’s because people that live in Melbourne are in denial that Melbourne is extremely dangerous, I have witnessed this firsthand.

I’m sorry but Melbourne as a city isn’t ā€œextremely dangerousā€. Not even subjectively.

I won’t go into the city these days unless I’m wearing a condom

  • Vidya games with friends

be safe if you're going out tho. Normaly we would have a VIP booking at L3 Crown, but somthing about this year doesnt feel safe.
