FYI, for those who are looking for ways to help: Lifeblood Australia is calling for blood donations, all/any blood types are just as needed right now.
Blood is already being transported from other states to NSW so even if you are unable to donate immediately, there will still be urgent need for blood stores to be replenished in the coming weeks over the Christmas/New Year period. Blood donations save lives all year round.
Next year my family and I will be celebrating the holidays in Melbourne! Officially accepted a job offer and can’t wait to move.
anyone know of any good pilates/yoga classes near moonee? just moved and looking to make some friends (:
Another machete attack in Endeavour Hills, 10 vs 1, 13 year old victim in Royal Children’s. Ban working well Jacinta!

This really needs more context. For all we know, you could be referring to Dan Andrews.
Hey all — wasn’t able to post this separately so dropping it in the general chat. Coming from rural QLD for a visit mid to late Jan and looking for one or some people to enjoy a meal and some sort of gig/show or even just hang out. Likely but not confirmed dates 14–17 or 21–24 Jan. Main purpose is for work but can sneak in some fun. My shout for the meal. Keen for something mid class with 2–4 people if you’re good company (me 1, you the other 2–4, i.e ya mates) Not 100% confirmed pending if the boss decides to be a prick and come with. Very CBD / inner burbs dependent. Sorry if not inline with rules. Anyway hit me up. Ps someone hits me with a place with a good steak and red wine combo and that might get me

I've kept a lovely buzz going all day and am super relaxed and hydrated.
Glorious Sunday
Japan is great incase you were wondering
Hey hoping someone can give me some advice please! I can’t post in the group yet.
I’m going to be in Melb alone for NYE, I’m not from Melb so could anyone please recommend some places that I could go for a bit of a dance alone? I’ve never gone out alone before! 30F and I love me some dirty Melbourne minimal lol but I also don’t mind hip hop or house music.
Thank you 🤩
also haven’t been out in Melbourne for 2-3 years 🥲
I'm not really ready to get back into the reality of work tomorrow but here we are. I managed to cram a lot into the week though so I guess I'm happy with that.
I haven’t watched evening news on Channel Nine for years but got stuck with it at a family event tonight. They’ve had a fifteen minute recap going of all the major crime and murder that happened in Australia this year, I don’t even know how this got approved because it’s so grim and absolutely not needed.
Can't get that boomer blood boiling without violence
You should go to any foreign country and watch their news
Ch9 has this weird obsession with Melbourne crime and then some local story about a dog and a pub or something.
And now there are ads on commercial networks propping up news presenters when they’re just reading a few dot points posted on any news website and brands it as “boots on the ground journalism”.
Hi all, I’m hoping someone may have seen or has information about an incident on St Kilda Road near the intersection with Barkly Street (tram stop 31), St Kilda East, between approximately 12:00am and 12:30am on the morning of 28 December.
The incident involved a white hatchback (believed to be a Holden Astra) and an injured male. The vehicle was no longer at the scene when emergency services arrived, and the injured male was taken to hospital by ambulance.
If you were in the area at the time, saw anything relevant, or have dashcam footage (including from parked vehicles), please let me know!
Dragon hot pot, nap, swim, more Dragon hot pot plus Chandon. Bliss afternoon...
Inject that ma la tang in my veins.
Dragon hot pot is so good
Got myself some bubblegum flavoured syrup, full cream milk, and Bulla Murray Street vanilla ice cream on hand. Anyone got recipes in making milkshakes/thickshakes that you can share with me?
With ingredients u have, I'll blitz bubble gum flavoured syrup, heaps of vanilla ice cream and full cream milk in blender. Pour it in high top glass, top it with whipped cream and sprinkle 100's and 1000's on top
I'll probably use a single tablespoon of bubblegum flavoured syrup since its double concentrate.
The syrup I have is Quarterpast Bubblegum Shake Syrup.
I’ve been craving this weather for months and spent it lying down at home
the way to do it tbh
Had my first summer midday nap. amazing feeling when you wake up from it
Went outside with sunscreen. Still got burnt. Checked sunscreen expiry and saw it expires December 2025. Well ffs 🤦🏼♀️
Whos turn is it to organise the traditional NYE orgy at the Botanical Gardens this year?
You don't see anywhere near as many couples having sex in secluded spots in the botanical gardens as you used to before camera phones.
I had a woman propose this sort of activity to me once, which I wasn't nessecarilly opposed to.
Then fucking COVID hit 😒
Dirty Mike and the boys
I think you just volunteered
I organised it last year
I had aspirations to do stuff today. I did do stuff. Stuff all.
The will is strong but the body weak. 2pm and still in pjs.
Shoutouts to anyone like myself that got sunburnt on Christmas day as we are now entering the itchy period of healing. Thoughts and prayers.
Peninsula is just a tad busy today 🏖 Good luck!
Event day thoughts: damn should have made the Raspuntin Reliquary
Might be a stupid question, but do you have to register to go to one of those Always Live popup gigs? Thinking about driving down to see Tex Perkins and then over to see Adaltia
Does anyone find it alluring how liminal the space in Flagstaff station cam feel?
I was working at the (former) news stand on the main concorse in Flagstaff the day that bloke ran over all those people on Bourke St. (Got to work just after it happened.)
Hearing the distant cacophony of sirens echoing through that very liminal space was deeply haunting.
Four days of cheese boards have finally taken their toll on the old gut biome. Someone pass the Coloxyl!
I stocked up on kombucha and yoghurt today - my poor guts need some love!
I've had to buy Quik-Eze for the first time in my life.
My afternoon snack is cheese and cherries.
Haha yeah yesterday I just drank tea until 3.30pm, had a bit of a flush out of the ol' system. And then ate cheese.
Whoever decided that stoves/ovens with fully metal handles and dials was a good idea needs to be flogged. That shit gets so hot and burns my hand
What day is it? What time is it?
Yes.
So I did a smooth soft stop at a yellow light. Almost like a limousine stop.
Driver behind honked then raised his hands. Then pulled out his phone to answer a call.
Let's say (this did not happen, but let's say if it did), if I were to raise the middle finger so it's visible via the back window (so, I don't stick any limbs out), and then the other driver behind either deliberately ram my car, or they exit the vehicle to smash my car window, who would be considered at fault for insurance and police report purposes?
Each person is responsible for their own actions. When you get triggered by something, someone has their finger on the trigger, and that person is YOU. If a person can't control their anger, that's on THEM.
Definitely their fault.
Makes sense, thanks:)
They'd be at fault.
No different to on the street. If you flip someone off and they touch you they're the aggressor.
Thanks:)
How long before you change your razor head? I've been using them for 3 months due to the budget constraints.
They are only meant to last a month.
You can buy a 8 pack gillete fusion for $30.
Yeah I can't afford Gillette. I'm using the two blade Bic one.
Until you keep drawing blood, or strong rash.
Does anyone have any info on where i could find a Benriner super or jumbo mandolin in store in Melbourne for <$100
Kitchen Warehouse has them for $70 and they’re in stock
Sorry missed some key info, not after the classic. Either a jumbo or super
Kitchen warehouse has them for $100?

Any shitty protests in the city today? Or is it safe to head in?
Shouldn't be any of significance. Looked it up last week and nothing was planned.
I wouldn't expect anything major till Australia day. Then I expect the invasion day bigots will clash with the far right bigots and it'll be feral.
Protests are pretty easy to avoid.
It should be illegal to make a test pitch so bad the test ends in 2 days.
Wouldn’t a bad wicket affect both sides equally?
It does. But having a 5 day test last 2 is just sucky. Defeats the whole point of the event.
Cricket Australia profits agree.
A lot of the wickets were down to shit batting technique.
I think it was a bit due to shit batting, but shit batting still shouldn’t result in two days of play.
When half the wickets in the Aussies first innings were due to shit batting, suddenly it only takes a few good deliveries before they're all out.
Dreaming, but I'd love to see batsmen from eras past, when pitches were frequently quite lively, have a bat on this deck. I think you'd see a lot higher scores than we actually did in this match.
Yeah I understand the mechanics of more wickets taken faster = less time to play, but I meant that if the pitch wasn’t so spicy, batting lapses are less likely to end up in a wicket. England were very lucky they won the toss!
If modern cricketers played with discipline, they would cope better when the pitch isn't a damn road.
Definitely a good toss to win though.
Eh. This is test level, with a better wicket they wouldn't get done in 2 days.
It was a test match, but a lot of the batting belonged in the backyard. Sure, if it had been a road the match would have gone longer, but it still should have gone well into day 3, maybe even early day 4 if the batsmen actually gave the bowling the respect it deserved.
Hey does anyone know if there is some online space where people in your area can advertise that they're giving away free stuff they no longer need?
my neighbourhood has a "good karma network" fb group for this, I think other suburbs have ones with similar names!
Gumtree has a free section.
Legend! Tysm
It's internet hard rubbish.
Would love this as well as an equivalent for Facebook marketplace which probably doesn’t exist
Yeah I was looking for an alternative to FB
Just downloaded the next door app and yeah it’s not a bad alternative to that
Check Gumtree's free section as well as someone else here has recommended..there's heaps of good stuff
Thanks mate
Nextdoor app
Thank you Never heard of this will try. Installing now
Most areas have a "Buy nothing" group on FB
Facebook neighbourhood groups
Free day tomorrow which is my last in Melbourne before heading to Sydney. 30 plus degrees looks likely. Is the sun just too strong to sit out in here? If not, where can I actually go? I see that beach sun lounger hire isn't a thing here. I'm in Prahran btw.
Aquarium! And the joy exhibition at immigration museum. Then Shakespeare in the gardens picnic dinner
Wear 50+ sunscreen and reapply every couple of hours, and/or wear shady clothes and hat to cover up. Lots of people go to the beach but the UV is EXTREME, so you just need to take appropriate measures.
You'll fry in 10 minutes if you're out between 11am-3pm
Ok, cheers. I will take this onboard.
I have just found out what Revs is! 😝 (Scottish tourist, walked past it yesterday on my way to swimming and have just put 2 and 2 together!)
Unsure how to spend the day as the cricket finished too early. Was really gearing up for lying on the couch all day….
Got any cleaning to do?
Acid in the botanical garden
I just need a supply
I see no reason to change your plans. Just stick on a replay of a classic Test match, from an era when batsmen knew how to handle a lively pitch.
Honestly I love watching test highlights on YouTube from the 2000s. The glory days of batsmen building an innings.
The 1993 Ashes was pretty good.
You can still lie on the couch all day!

What about it?
Someone’s cat has been crying outside my door all night. Ffs keep em indoors people!! Would Melbourne council do something about this? I don’t even know whose cat it is. Gaaaahhh
In my experience the council is useless about things like this. My rescue greyhound doesn't like being approached by dogs he doesn't know, and I've lost count of the number of times an off-leash, unsupervised dog has tried to run up to him. I've reported this multiple times and the council website says:
Turns out it doesn't. It's an empty threat. After I spoke to a council rep about my complaints, her explanation boiled down to "we aren't going to do anything unless there's an actual incident/attack" by which time it's obviously too late.
I'm not just talking about dog on dog incidents, what if a person is hurt by someone's out of control offleash dog? So I suspect the same "rules" apply to cat ownership.
Councils don't tend to deal with cats during weekends
Sounds like it may have escaped from their home if it was crying out. Hopefully they have a microchip.
No, this cat is out every night, has been the case the whole time I’ve lived here. Never had it be this vocal though
Thats unfortunate. Poor little soul might have been hurt.
It's not crying, it's in heat.
Boy cat
When a cat is in heat, both sexes make crying sounds.
