By night I mean around 12/1am. Is it safe to walk around this track area? Cheers

  • Along the yarra yes if you’re closer to Southbank as there’s a lot of light and lots of people. I’ve walked Albert park Lake in the late evening a number of times on the Albert Park/Middle Park side and it’s been fine, there’s a few people who walk there on warmer nights.

  • Are you a woman?

I’d avoid Albert Park Lake around 12/1am. Not amazingly well lit, and fuck all people.

Parts of the Yarra are generally fine, plenty of light and lots of people around even later at night.

  • Plot twist: for all we know op is the assailant looking where to find a new victim...

    Maybe maybe 🫣

  • TBH I wouldn't.

    Haha okay! Any particular reason?

If there’s any trouble with sketchy dudes you’re unlikely to get any help from passers by. To put it more dramatically, you’ll be found in the morning.

When was the last time that happened?

A full on murder? Idk but I do know ppl that have been groped and gay bashed along there and no one stepped in even though there were quite a few others around. Two separate ppl on two diff nights FTR.

I'd say 90 percent of these kinda people have and will use a knife. So who knows but a murder is definitely possible and has happened. Vic pol are super slow at responding and handling this shit too, they focus on whats important in the media etc. not everythings reported and what not.

I used to live on the streets of Melbourne CBD, an addict etc. I wouldn't ever hurt anybody but alot of the people id surround myself with would do this stuff.. anything for money I guess. Always using knifes not everything gets reported or even mentioned too.

    With multiple stab wounds

  • I used to walk around Albert Park Lake at that time of night (I stopped because I moved), and more often than not I was the only one walking around there. The few people I saw walking didn't seem dodgy.

Not sure about the Yarra though. The only part I walked that late at night was way upstream near the Heide.

  • Yeah it’s perfectly safe, never had any issues walking from flinders street to home along the Yarra. It’s quite lovely that time of night, and you’ll find a certain sense of tranquility that’s scarce in a city like this.

It's still not safe though. There's a way higher chance than normal of getting in to trouble in these areas. Everything seems fine and safe until the lads on the street need meth

  • It’s usually pretty safe, if it’s warm there’s usually lots of people walking around

  • I wouldnt do that alone to be honest.. coming from someone who used to live on the streets of Melbourne etc.. not safe. No where is really around Melbourne CBD outside of a bar/club at this time.

  • It's fine, I've done it a couple of times and I'm a girl. Just have some wits with ya

  • Define safe. Are you a gun totin tough guy with a martial arts background? Are you machete resistant? Can you run really fast?

From a bad guy in general… and probably creepy animal?

Disclaimer: I walk all sorts of places at night, and generally rely on the Shrek school of personal safety (“I’m scarier than anyone you’ll meet in there”).

Albert Park Lake doesn’t have many people at night. You’ll occasionally encounter someone out for a late walk or run, but often you can be the only one there. It’s not like it’s an area where unsavoury characters congregate at night. But that said, parts of the area aren’t well lit, there are plenty of places to hide, and there won’t be people around to intervene if something does happen.

It’s not like, for example, the old stock route from the Maribyrnong River to Newmarket, which is illuminated and close to houses, so if something were to happen, chances are someone would be there quickly. It isn’t like the Footscray side of the Maribyrnong River, where there are always people fishing and generally hanging around until the early hours of the morning, making it less likely someone would try anything there.

If you do happen to encounter a psycho at Albert Park Lake at night, you’ll most likely be on your own. It’s up to you whether you’re comfortable with that.

Don’t go barefoot in the dark. Check Vic Emergency for drop bear forecasts. Watch for off leash Rotty’s and packs of brainless teens.

    I probably wouldn’t but I’m risk averse

40% (medium chance) of drop bears overnight, most likely around the inner suburbs. Sunny afternoon. Winds southerly 10 to 20 km/h. Min 15° - Max 33° UV: extreme

  • No one can hear you scream.

    You make the choice.

  • Melbourne's safe, not that safe. Common.
