The largest employment hub outside of the CBD is the Monash NEIC which is more focused around Monash but does encompass some of the industrial areas you mention
You'd have to do a data sweep to crunch employment numbers, I'm sure there is something out there, remember though that the fringe spokes from the CBD, like St Kilda Rd and Parkville probably need to count in the top 5 too.
That's a very cool fact. Being from that area I can always spot it really quickly on a satellite image due to the large number of industrial buildings but that makes sense now.
She is a Major, as they're referred to by their family name she is known as Major Malfunction. Her squad commander is Corporal Punishment and she reports to General Disarray.
OP is getting clowned a bit unfairly I think. Yeah sure it's not surprising that you can see the difference but I remember being surprised at how stark and clear the boundaries are, which is a sense you don't really get at ground level. They never claimed to have solved Fermat's Last Theorem
I remember going out there with a mate to get parts for my 4wd HJ Panelvan and his Valiant in the 90’s - long drive from the inner city burbs we were in, now it’s closer than the nearest Maccas!
What it really shows more than anything else is zoning. If you look in Japan for example, which operates mostly on maximal use zoning, so you can build houses anywhere, the only places you see that look like this are ports and airports
You might also find mildly amusing that you can quite easily see the Healesville Freeway land reservation. Starting in Wantirna in the middle of the left edge and running east then north to the top through Bayswater and Kilsyth.
A lot of those buildings wouldn't be able to be covered I solar panels. Warehouses tend to be designed very close to the limit of safe design and are very light weight, adding solar panels would probably double the load on the structure.
Good news is the national construction codes from 2023 onwards require warehouses to be able to withstand the load of solar panels
Lived and worked in the area for nearly 40 years and recognised Canterbury Rd and Mountain Hwy immediately. Great mix of medium industrial and residential.
I was looking at industrial areas in south Africa the other day and noticed how they are always next to shanty towns. Really shows the ongoing effects of segregation

And farming areas by farmland...
And land by all the blue
Hold up…
Wait wait wait ... 18th century Agrarian business classes
That's water
Not a fan of Arrested Development, apparently.
Why you bringing Mr Wendal into this?
This only applies to Tasmania
Really? Interesting. I want to test this
If anybody here wants to PM me their map of Tassie, I'll be sure to provide feedback
tasmanian resident here. you can't see a map of us, we don't exist unless you live here
Schrödingers australia checking in
Most frequently, the map of Tasmania has been deforested.
We are building houses in farmland now
And flooding zones in golf courses
Or any industrial area in any city... But a more prominent contrast in low density suburban areas.
Fun fact, second largest employment area in Melbourne behind the CBD is the Westall Clayton Springvale area.
The largest employment hub outside of the CBD is the Monash NEIC which is more focused around Monash but does encompass some of the industrial areas you mention
Sorry you're right that was what I meant to say but couldn't remember the name
it might have been westall before the holden plant shut down.
Anyone know where the airport ranks? I’d have thought top five?

Industrial warehouse looks different than house from above
More news at 6
This post is so f*cking stupid.
Here's the view of that from Burke's Lookout

Makes me want to crack out cities skylines
Reticulating splines...
Oh wait.
Thanks for this startling observation.
There are probably a few birds in the photo so it might even be a starling observation.
I'll show myself out.
Now waiting for the comparison of port Phillip bay to CBD
Industrial areas do tend to have less trees.
What about forests?
Tend
Mind Blown
Yes
Person discovers that satellite imagery tends to show things in detail from above and afar
And?
That’s it. That’s the post.
You serious? How does this have so many upvotes, have none of you used Google Maps before? I am so confused.
Sorry mate but you're looking a bit like Catherine Obvious this is pretty basic stuff
Good old Cathy. What's her rank these days?
She is a Major, as they're referred to by their family name she is known as Major Malfunction. Her squad commander is Corporal Punishment and she reports to General Disarray.
Alright don't hurt yourself.
Can see my house from there

Wait till you figure out what all the blue stuff is.
That’s mainly all light to medium industrial heavy is elsewhere
Elsewhere, like China, India and Japan.
Great post pal, a true gem
Boral quarry upper right side, pick-a-part just to the left of it
Don't leave that car just sitting in a heap...
I remember going out there with a mate to get parts for my 4wd HJ Panelvan and his Valiant in the 90’s - long drive from the inner city burbs we were in, now it’s closer than the nearest Maccas!
Zoom to Toorak and look at all the pools and back-to-back tennis courts.
I wish Bayswater had more frequent trains
Move to Ringwood and you will get twice as many trains.
Can't afford to mate.
That's the only reason why bayswater and boronia are less than 7 figs for a unit.

I too remember the first time I looked at a satellite image.
Wow my mind is blown
I'm going to make a game where you look at the city from a top down view and build it out
Like a city simulator?
The amount of times I've been on the cities skylines sub and thought it was pictures of a real city...
Some of those guys be playing a different game entirely.
I for one found this mildly interesting. More interesting than the mundane comments 😆
You might also find mildly amusing that you can quite easily see the Healesville Freeway land reservation. Starting in Wantirna in the middle of the left edge and running east then north to the top through Bayswater and Kilsyth.
You can clearly make out the Golf course as well.
Should all be solar

Lots of the new ones out in Ravenhall spell out the company name or logo in solar panels
What do you mean mate? What did you expect?
I already knew it was Kilsyth
Immediately looked for my house.
Wait till the industrial areas get converted to lofts
Lived and worked in the area for nearly 40 years and recognised Canterbury Rd and Mountain Hwy immediately. Great mix of medium industrial and residential.
You didn't realize that different zoning looks different from above?? Why are you even posting this self-discovery you should be aware of as logic?
In other news, I went for a swim this morning and got wet

OMG it's the same in Perth . . . How . . Unexpected /s
Have you not looked at satellite imagery before this??
How do you tell where the ocean is though
The green roofs?
I was looking at industrial areas in south Africa the other day and noticed how they are always next to shanty towns. Really shows the ongoing effects of segregation
Don't mind the haters, it looks kinda cool
Mind blowing 🤯
